Shiel Medical Laboratory Reviews (31)

Review: In October 2013, I was billed directly by Shiel for lab tests and paid the entire invoice ($95.70) before my Health Insurance payment was subsequently received by Shiel. The accounting representative I spoke with on 11/**/2013 agreed I am due a refund of $78.27 which I was told I would receive within 4 weeks. I have followed up via phone approximately every 30-45 days since then, and am still awaiting my refund. During my latest call on 3/**/2014 I was told the check had been cut on Feb. **and they would investigate and call me back. The phones at Shiel have now been 'out' since that time. Still no refund.Desired Settlement: I'd like my refund immediately.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved. I received the refund payment on Saturday. Thank you for your actions to bring this to a speedy resolution.

Sincerely,

Review: I've received over 10 erroneous billings from Shiel Medical Laboratory for lab tests. I self paid for the tests at the medical office that ordered them, but the Laboratory continues to send me bills and insists they have not received payment. I've contacted their billing department several times to inform them that I've paid for all services provided by their laboratory directly at the office that ordered the tests. The medical office that uses their services tells me that they have contacted Shiel several times on my behalf to straighten this out, but they continue to send me bills and threaten to ruin my credit.Desired Settlement: Acknowledge that my lab tests have been paid for and issue a statement saying that I have paid all outstanding bills. Nothing less than a zeroing of this account will make me go away. You are immoral business people.

Response:

Good Morning; It would not be possible for [redacted] to collect fees for our service since at the time of the office visit the insurance company would not have been billed yet. The average time for our claims to go to the insurance company in this case [redacted] is approximately two weeks. The doctors office would have no knowledge of what amount to collect since we are unaware of what the patients deductible would come to. All the claims we are billing the patient is what [redacted] applied to his in network deductible.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

Shiel Medical Laboratories should have never billed my insurance, period. My credit card payment was processed by [redacted] for all services using I[redacted] Industrial Account with Shiel Medical Laboratories. The Shiel sales representative to [redacted], Maureen D[redacted], has been contacted by me, as well as staff at [redacted] to resolve this issue. Maureen should have acknowledged the tests were ordered through [redacted] industrial account and that payment has been received, but she has failed to do so or even to return my call. Shiel Medical Laboratories has failed continuously and cannot be trusted to behave professionally. Their staff routinely hang up on me when I call them. I recommend any patient that visits a doctor's office that utilizes Shiel Medical Lab testing to demand that the doctor's office uses different lab or find a different doctor altogether. Shiel Medical Laboratories is a scam operation. Look them up on [redacted], or any other consumer-ratings site. They have an abysmal reputation. It is not worth it.

Sincerely,

Review: I'm was billed on 6/**/2013, for services that occurred on 7/**/2012. At the time of the services, which my doctor order, I had health insurance. The same service had been order for me several times during the past several years without me having to pay for it. Also my doctor has always had my current health insurance, which cover laboratory services.Desired Settlement: I'm seeking for the bill to be voided because of the following; 1) I had health insurance at the time that cover the lab testing, 2) It seems that the laboratory fail to submit the bill on time to the health insurance, hence leading them to bill me a year later, 3) It also seems that maybe the doctor's office, didn't submit correctly the insurance information which had changed, yet continue to cover payment for those services.

Response:

To Whom It May Concern:

[redacted] was seen at [redacted] office on 7/**/2012. They provided us with Aetna insurance and they denied the claim for coverage termination. The first time we billed [redacted] was August 2012 but the doctors office had

given us the wrong address as well. They provided the patient address as [redacted]. We first lea rued of the new address by a postal return in June 2013 which at that point we corrected the patients address and

sent a new invoice. The doctors offices a courtesy provided billing information which was apparently old but they are not required to provide any information at all. When the patient received our invoice all he had to do was contact our office to inform us of his new insurance which he can still do. There was only one other claim for the patient in that year and he should have received an invoice for that as well because all the details are the same. If we receive the correct insurance information we will be glad to take care of the invoices.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.

Sincerely,

Review: In 2011 I went for a medical checkup with [redacted] of Lawrence Medical Associates of [redacted] . The doctor's office sent my blood and urine samples to [redacted] Medical Laboratories for testing. Evidently the insurance information the doctor's office sent [redacted] was incorrect. I found this out recently when I pulled my credit report. [redacted] sent this matter to a collection agency. I contacted [redacted] and they said they sent me letters concerning this matter, which I do not recall. If they did send me those letters I probably disregarded them because I figured it was between the doctor's office and [redacted]. A woman by the name of [redacted] in the billing office of [redacted] said that it is too late to resend the claim to my insurance company and I have to pay over $500, out of my pocket, to clear this up. I have been back to my doctor for at least two more checkups, using the same insurance, and the checkups and diagnostic tests have been covered by my insurance.

My contention is this: I don't understand why [redacted] did not contact the doctor's office first since they were the ones who requested the diagnostic testing. Either the doctor's office or [redacted] reported the incorrect information. I pay for health benefits so I should not have to pay extra for something that is covered by that insurance.Desired Settlement: I will be purchasing a home and I want this off of my credit report.

Business

Response:

Good Afternoon [redacted];

Sorry for the delay in my response. I have attached a copy of the requisition sent in by the doctors office. It shows the home address and the insurance information provided by them. Amerihealth insurance denied our claim back in 2011. They were unable to ID the patient as a member of their insurance. I’m sorry the patient opted to ignore our bills but he would be incorrect to assume it is between us and the doctors office. There is no law that states a doctors office is obligated to provide us with insurance. It is just a courtesy if they do. It is the patients responsibility to contact us upon receiving the bill to find out if there is a problem with his insurance. At this time I can offer to split the difference and request 50% of the bill to be paid and I will have the other 50% written off. At that time I can have Paul Michael Agency remove this from his credit report immediately.

Dear [redacted]:

If you look at the requisition you supplied both my mailing address and my phone # are incorrect. Up until now I never heard of [redacted] Medical Laboratory, never contracted with them to do anything on my behalf, and have never received correspondence from them. As I stated before, this is between [redacted] and the doctor's office. Contact the Paul Michael Agency and remove this from my credit report immediately.

Having brought to our attention that we were given the wrong home address by the doctors office, I have requested with Paul Michael Agency to cancel this account and have it removed from the TRW immediately. They will also provide a removal letter to [redacted] at the address noted below. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused but being a third party we have to put our faith in receiving the correct information.

Review: I went for my annual check-up in July of 2014 and the bloodwork was sent to Shiel.

Almost 6 months later their billing department started sending me an invoice that I owe $37 out of no where. When I called the billing department said they failed bill my insurance company correctly. I called my doctor's office and they said due to integrity issues with Shiel my doctor's office have discontinued working with them. I was then told that the bill is scam and I am not responsible to pay it.

When I looked up Shiel, I am not alone.

Now I have started receiving threat letters to damage my credit if I don't pay this made up bill.

No one can confirm, neither my insurance company or my doctor that I owe these people anything.Desired Settlement: This bill is not my responsibility. I paid my co-pay and my insurance covered the rest.

I have nothing to do with this company and this bill looks like a scam.

Any legitimate company would go through my insurance, or my doctor. If I did owe anything more, I would expect that bill to come from my insurance company.

Business

Response:

The claim was originally waived for deductible but back in 2014 we had a computer glitch that would occasionally open up claims and bill them out again in error. I apologize for the inconvenience and have zeroed out the claim.

Sincerely,

Review: in order to comply with my employer, Target, I responded to a mandatory doctor's visit with Sayegh and Krump Familiy med. practice. The doctor's office sent specimen to Shiel Labs for processing. The Sayegh and Krump practice sent their billing to Target, and were paid. Shiel Medical Labs sent there bill to me, I contacted Shiel Med. Labs, and Sayegh and Krump practice, to inform them of this error. However Shiel Medical Labs continued to send me the bill and notified Equifax that this was my bill and was unpaid. To this date they still profess this bill belongs to me despite that the Sayegh and Krump office has also contacted them to rectify this. This company has sent billing for this same charge under various names and addresses. Such as Paul Michael Marketing.Desired Settlement: repair this issue with Equifax Credit Agency

Business

Response:

Please be advised that Shiel Medical Laboratory requires a contract for pre-employment testing if the patient should not be billed for the labwork. We never had any contract with Target and the information has never been provided to the Laboratory.

At this point, we cannot bill Target two years after the date of service. Hence, we will write off these charges at the current time.

Sincerely,

Review: I checked my credit and it shows a collection from them. I paid all my bills and when I left I didnt have any bills due. a year later I am in collections.Desired Settlement: I want a letter written to me and the 3 credit agencies stating that I do not owe this company any money.

Review: Shiel owes me $40.00 dollars. They received 2 differant checks in the amount of $20.00 each from the insurance company that should have come to me instead. I paid my co payments to Shiel and the $20.00 checks from the insurance company were a reimbustment for the 2 payments that I made. The first check they received was on June *, 2013 and the second check they received was on Sept **, 2013, both checks were cashed by Shiel. I've made numorous calls to them for the $40.00 that they owe me and I just keep getting the run around. This has been going on since June of 2013.Desired Settlement: Would like to receive the $40.00 ASAP

Response:

To Whom It May Concern;

Shiel Medical Laboratory had issued [redacted] his first refund check #[redacted] August **,2013. I was unware that [redacted] had not received it to date until we spoke on the phone last week. My HR department has since issued a replacement check. His second refund was issued the end of November and I made the patient aware the check was coming to him. [redacted] will contact me if he does not receive either check and I will resolve that issue then.

Review: Erroneously billing for services paid for at CityMD Flatiron.Desired Settlement: Refund funds that I previously released.

Business

Response:

To Whom It May Concer:

[redacted] is a patient of CityMD Flatiron and was seen in the office on October **, 2013. CityMD charged him for their office visit and the Urinanalysis which they do in the office. They sent us a seperate urine specimen and requested we perform a [redacted] and [redacted]. Shiel Laboratory is only billing the patient for the [redacted] and [redacted] which we performed. CityMD requested us to bill the patient at our special discounted rate of $82.08. We were then provided with insurance information which removed the discounted rate and after the insurance denied, a new bill went to the patient at the full rate of $323.40. I have adjusted the invoice to rebill him at the special discounted rate of $82.08 again.

Any other questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact me.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

I already issued payment to Shiel several months ago. Now that I have confirmation that Shiel is arbitrarily fabricating invoices, I will not submit to more fraudulent claims. I paid my lab fees directly at the doctors office.

Sincerely,

Business

Response:

To Whom It May Concern;

As I have stated in my previous response the fees collected at the doctors office was for a simple urinalysis performed in their office. The doctor sent a urine sample to the lab for additional testing. The tests requested by the doctor were urine culture and a [redacted]. These are not included int the fees for the urinalysis.

New York is a direct billing state and the doctor cannot collect the fees owed to the lab. The lab must bill the patient directly for the services performed.

Sincerely,

Shiel Medical Lab

Review: I visited my doctor several years ago for my annual checkup, and received later a communication that I owed $496.60 to Shiel Medical Laboratory. I never requested any services from this business, have never heard of Shiel Medical Laboratory, and did not consent to or request for them to provide any services to me whatsoever.

I believe the invoice I was provided to be an arbitrarily fabricated document, I pay for health benefits precisely in order to cover preventive healthcare visits and will not be subject to such false billing claims. The doctor gave me a clean bill of health after my visit. I am now receiving letters from a collections agency asking for payment.Desired Settlement: I want this matter taken out of collections. I want a letter written to me and the 3 credit agencies stating that I do not owe this company any money. This should not reflect on my credit report.

Response:

[redacted] went to see [redacted] at Primary Care Medical on 10/**/2013. The doctor drew his blood for diagnostic testing and needed to send the specimen to a laboratory for results. The doctors office provided us with [redacted] as the patients insurance (copy of requisition attached). [redacted] denied the claim for coverage terminated which at that time we proceeded to bill the patient in order to get his updated insurance. After several attempts over the course of seven months the computer automatically refers the claim to collections and they proceed to contact the patient. Sincerely,

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

[redacted] was not my provider at the time of the medical checkup at Primary Care Medical. I had clearly stated that my provider had changed to the clerical staff at the doctor's office and had shown my insurance card. This matter should have been clarified by Shiel directly with them. I never requested that any bloodwork be sent to any third party lab. Even so, none of the communications from Shiel Medical Labs has at any time mentioned that Shiel had: a) sent a request to [redacted], b) been denied due to terminated coverage, or c) seeking my updated insurance information in order to invoice the appropriate insurance provider. Instead, the communications consisted only of invoices requesting immediate payment. Any communication from my end requesting clarification of why this was billed to me directly instead of the provider went unanswered, until I benefitted from the kind intermediation of the Revdex.com.At the time of the service mentioned in [redacted]'s email, my insurance provider was Cigna (Group #[redacted]). I trust that this should clarify the invoicing on Shiel's end. In any case, I submit that I should not be made responsible for the lack of diligence and/or responsiveness on the part of either Shiel Medical Laboratories or the doctor's office.

Review: Three representatives hung up on me during a call in the same day. This is who represents Shiel? Disrepectful rude reprentatives? I asked to speak to a manager three times and one of them refused to tell me her name and hung up. The other two girls were named [redacted] and [redacted]. I am infuriated that these three woman were so disrepectful to me, did not help me with a question I had regarding my bill and then hung up on me. If management does not call me back and handle the issues I called about in the first place and continue to hangup like they have been doing for the past TWO WEEKS ago then I will need to take further action. This is dishusting in how I was treated!!!Desired Settlement: Someone with respect in a management position to call me back, allow me to explain my issue at hand and resolve it!

Response:

Good Morning;I apologize for the delay of my response for I've been ill the last two weeks. On behalf of Shiel Laboratory I apologize for the phone trouble. We have been experiencing phone trouble. Many of our calls are being dropped when placed on hold or during conversation. The two women mentioned in the complaint, Tikva and [redacted] are highly commended by patients. We have received in writing and verbally how helpful and caring they are with patients. As for the invoice it is a New York Healthcare deductible for diagnostic testing. [redacted]Shiel Medical Lab
