Ship Happens Marine was hired by recommendation from *** in Olympia in October to wash, wax, and detail our boat which was moored there for several days. Adelaide, the contact person there required full payment by Visa online on the day the work was completed, the day after she began. We were not in Washington at the time to view the finished work. She claimed she was leaving town the next morning and had to be paid that day. When we had resisted payment before viewing the work, she insisted again, and stated that we could dispute the work if it was not acceptable.
When we returned several days later, we found the condition of the boat was a complete mess. We had two employees view the boat and state in writing the work was unacceptable. There was debris on the deck, waxing done incorrectly, windows filthy, dinghy not cleaned, and a sticky substance on the roof of the boat
We hauled the boat back to Portland and had a local person completely re-wash and wax the boat, as well as fix an unacceptable fiberglass repair she had done. Our local boat detail person confirmed the work had been done poorly. We have tried to resolve this by disputing the charges through our Visa, but have only been successful in recovering about $300 of the charges. There is $833 still charged to our Visa that she will not agree to refund, even though she had said we could dispute the charges if we were not pleased with the work.
Since our boat was only temporarily moored in Olympia, and since she said she was leaving in next morning after completion there was no opportunity to have her correct the work.
I contacted Adelaide today again by phone to explain our position on this, she hung up on me.
We only want to recover our costs, since we had to hire another contractor to do the work satifactorily when we got the boat back to Portland. All of this information has been detailed with pictures, letters from the employees who confirmed her work was not acceptable.
