Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/09/16) */
Complaint ID#: XXXXXXXX
Consumer requested that I train his dog for hunting and to develop him further as a finished gun dog. Consumer requested a reduced training rate at which I reluctantly agreed. I truthfully answered all questions. ...

Consumer made a comment that he did not know I had a full-time job. This information was never requested and certainly not hidden. Dog was dropped off at my location and was never visited despite my recommendation. Visiting during training is always preferred to ensure progress is adequate / acceptable and to ensure proper transfer once the dog goes back to owner. Monthly updates were provided to the consumer as well as concerns or specific areas of focus during the training period. As the end of training concluded, consumer began making idle threats and other comments of "the agreed upon" level of training. I never guaranteed any outcome of training. That would not be wise especially without seeing and training the dog first. As with any training on livestock there are no guarantees. At this time, I requested the Consumer to pick up his dog. It is important to have a good line of communication and this relationship did not have that. Pickup occurred approximately 3 weeks afterward. While I wish the dog would have improved more under my training effort, it was obvious that the dog had some challenges that could not be improved upon regardless of effort. The dog was very soft. The dog had many birds planted for it and continued to "bulldoze" fields with no interest in pointing. The dog just wanted to run wide-open and with any correction the dog would not hunt. The dog was trained daily. The dog in question is not a bad dog, but will need additional training under a seasoned trainer to advance to the desired level of the Consumer.
Upon pickup it was communicated by Consumer that dog had some pre-existing "popping" issues. This had not been communicated by the Consumer until pickup. These issues were reviewed at pickup as well as obedience. The dog was worked with the Consumer present. The Consumer was asked if he had any questions. All questions / opinions were provided.
The Consumer provided the first month of training upfront as requested, however regular monthly payments ceased afterwards due some truck repairs of the Consumer. The Consumer was never billed late fees. Payment for training service is not based on outcome. It is based on the cost of food, daily maintenance, and daily training (time). The Consumer was told this....
Not all dogs turn out to be master level dogs especially given some of the pre-existing issues this dog came with. This dog needed more foundation / structured training at an earlier age in my opinion. The best resolution was to dis-continue training of the Consumers dog based on the idle threats and apparent dissatisfaction. My track record training dogs is supported by many happy dog owners and references.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2015/09/16) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I have witnesses who heard our conversations before I even took my dog to shooters point that will acknowledge the discussion of titles"not training for a better hunting dog" I sent him to Shooters Point for ONE REASON and ONE REASON ONLY to get the dog the titles we discussed. As far as the dog not showing hunting desire and no point, two weeks after getting my dog home and putting him on birds, he was pointing. I sent a video to him. the dog was hunted on the Missouri River from 6-9months of age right before I sent him to shooters point. Hunting the Missouri River is not an easy task for any dog, let alone a puppy who handled it extremely well and retrieved a number of ducks and geese for us. In the response he mentioned the dog being soft but from day 1 he couldn't believe how well the dog handles pressure and how far along he was and how good he was. I kept all the text messages from him that proves it!!!Even mentioned buying the dog from me. He ran in a hunt test as I stated before and after he failed to pass my dog he went to color abusing my dog. I have taken him to other trainers to just look at him and they say he was collar abused. I received one photo of my dog and no videos. He was not poppin before he left. He is a shyster and come to find out he sold the business not long after I picked my dog up. Pretty sketchy if you ask me.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2015/09/18) */
It is unfortunate that this situation exists, however the effort put forth was genuine and in no way was this dog ever mistreated. There are never guarantees of any titles before training starts. The dog no doubt hunts and points better. The were many birds planted and shot for this dog, however last spring he was not pointing. The dogs' obedience was very solid and his marking on singles was in excess of 150 yards with cover. As communicated to the consumer, his dog would pass a CPR test now, but this dog was not ready for a Master level test this fall when he went back to the consumer.
