Shoppers Drug Mart Reviews (%countItem)

The writer is 100% positive an Esso gas gift card purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart, Wyandotte location, Windsor. The time frame was September 2017 to October 1st. My sister tried on two occasions to use it Jan 2018 but was told by the gas station it was NEVER ACTIVATED.

Numerous attempts were made to contact Customer Service 1-800 number. I have been put on hold in excess of 20 to 45 minutes (25 to 30 times) without any Rep picking up the phone. After leaving numerous messages, only once did they call back. They let it ring twice and when I reached the phone they hung up. The voice mail said to call the 1-800 number with a case number assigned, but again, no return calls and put on hold consistently; no one ever coming to the phone.

The Rep also left a message that they could not trace the purchase but the time frame might have been off a couple days. This can't be explained because they won't return my calls.

I am very upset with this situation Not every gift recipient keeps the bills and it probably got lost in the shuffle around Christmas. I paid $100.00 for the gas card which I was directed to scratch the back and fax all the serial numbers. It is odd they can't trace their own card and activate it but they won't. It is an embarassment to gift this card that doesn't work.

The major inconvenience of being put on hold multiple times AT LENGTH.

I paid CASH and now all this runaround. The customer is being held responsible due to the misplaced receipt but what about Shoppers Drug Mart cashier who was negligent in activating the card. I am 100% sure the card was purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart and this location, as it is close to my home and I am a regular customer. We have disclosed all our personal information, and the gift recipient is the Manager of a Bank. There is no deceit here whatsoever.

Desired Outcome

Exchange Out of principle, the customer should be given the benefit of the doubt and given another gift card or a refund. Minimally, Shoppers was negligent in activating the card. My sister included the receipt from Esso of the 0 balance and I can provide Revdex.com with all the fax information also given to Customer Service at Shoppers. We as a business are still in the process of trying to remedy the complainant's problem. At the store level we are following the direction as provided by our central office. Where there are problems arising from giftcards and their activation, our central office has advised stores to have customers directly reach out to our central office. Once this has happened, an forensic electronic audit can be performed to ensure that the card was purchased and processed through properly. In this case, the customer has no documentation to prove that the card was not only purchased, but also that it was activated or not activated. Our cashiers are trained that, upon payment and activation of the giftcard, to affix the statement of authoriZation on the giftcard.
The customer has told me that she has been receiving responses back but available for when they have been calling. We are following the protocol as directed by our central office, based on the need to avoid potentially fraudulent situations. Also, our office needs to know of these problems so that we can contact the manufacturer of these giftcards to improve their processing and avoid other customer problems. We are not the manufacturers of these cards, simply the provider.
We understand that there is no deceit. However, our systems in store are handicapped to help when there is no other information that could be used to search further for a solution. We have no debit or credit information (as the customer has told me that there is no electronic record of that from her bank) or dating to look into this at the store level. We would sincerely like to help the customer more, however we are following the direction as provided by our central office and waiting for them to tell us how to proceed.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Their statement is FALSE that they have no proof the card was activated or not. I faxed all information on the card plus receipts from the Esso that verified it was NOT activated. Secondly, they said they would do a 2nd check involved more than 4 days in September when it was purchased, and get back to me in a couple days. That was two weeks ago and still NOTHING. When I called and followed up I was put on hold in excess of 40 minutes x 10 times. It was explained to them in EXCESS that because my sister did not use the card until 3 months after purchase, it was assumed the card was okay and that is probably why I can't find the receipt. I am 100% positive the card was purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart, said location in the month of September 2017. They have other priorities so I am not one of them.

I wrote the owner of the Shoppers a letter regarding the incident with the gift card. The owner called back and agreed to refund my money $100.00. Since he was willing to refund the money I returned to him $50.00 for being so kind. His name is Mr. Ted .

Thank you
