Follow up response:
-All cars at Shoreline Auto Sales are sold "As-Is" according to CT state law. A warranty is purchased from a third party as an additional coverage for the customer. All customers sign off on the "As-Is" condition multiple times on multiple forms.
-Shoreline Auto Sales complies fully with all laws and guidelines governing our business.
-Shoreline Auto Sales was not given adequate time to investigate and diagnose the issue. Upon driving the vehicle, it was shifting smoothly, but we needed more time to investigate the cause for the codes.
-Shoreline Auto Sales has not and will not ever clear codes and pass the vehicle on to the customer. Clearing codes does nothing if the problem is not addressed. The codes will return almost immediately. We have no knowledge of any codes being present in the [redacted]. A check engine light cannot be cleared and then a vehicle can pass through emissions. If you have any further questions regarding the emissions testing system and the regulations and procedures behind it, please contact the state.
-We do not have an employee named Eric.
-A business can have a Revdex.com rating and not be accredited. Accreditation involves paying a fee.
-This is the first negative review on [redacted] in 12 months. Check the dates.
-[redacted] and [redacted] were offered the chance to have the vehicle repaired here. They declined because they didn't trust us. They proceeded to become angry and yell, as well as make threats to contact lawyers, the news, etc. I was hung up on by both [redacted] and [redacted] while trying to explain my solution to the problem. If they didn't hear me it was because they were talking over me, yelling, swearing, or had already hung up.
-After writing these hateful and inaccurate reviews of our company, Shoreline Auto Sales has no plans to reimburse the [redacted]s, or repair their vehicle.
-If you feel that any laws have been broken, please contact the [redacted], Department of [redacted], or your attorney.

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
I understand the risks of buying a used vehicle, however when told tires will be replaced (as they agreed to prior to sale) ,  fluids changed (which they were not) , a ball joint replaced (which it appears was not)  among other issues. Including multiple trips to fix a single issue to the door motor. They may be able to hide behind operating within the law., but it goes to credibility and reputation. I will consider it a lesson learned, but at any opportunity I will discredit this company as they obviously  are unscruptulous and liars.  Apparently in researching the company this seems to a copy and paste response to any complaint against them. Many for similar issues. This car spent most of the first month we owned it getting the window motor (fixed). On multiple occassions the tires were also supposed to be replaced due to both leaking.
The vehicle was purchased with 133,489 miles   the current mileage is 134,188   a net increase of   699 miles since purchase.   ITS VERY OBVIOUS their claims of "its a solid car"  'its in great mechanical condition", "as well as how well the car was gone over"  and such were horribly innaccurate.
As to their claim of utlizing our own mechanic to inspect the car, that issue was never, ever even purposed or discussed. With the sales pitch [redacted] threw, and the inspection and service the car was supposed to recieve,, we were comfortable at the very least we were purchasing a reliable car.
I can make sure that anyone I come in contact knows of the scam this company is.
Sincerely,
[redacted]

Shoreline Auto Sales has no response to this mean-spirited attempt at defamation, slander and libel. We sell hundreds of cars each year with a 98% customer satisfaction rate. We do our best to sell quality used cars at reasonable prices. Unfortunately some customers have unreasonable expectations.

Shoreline Auto Sales has no plans to reimburse [redacted] for the repairs completed at another shop for the following reasons:
-All cars are sold "As-Is" without a warranty from the dealership or state, according to state law. A warranty is purchased from a third party for the customer....

It does not cover fluid leaks. Any issues with the vehicle are the customers responsibility. Despite this, Shoreline Auto Sales allowed Lynn to bring the vehicle back twice to be checked and repaired at no cost.
-On the second appointment, Shoreline Auto Sales paid a mechanic overtime to come in for the day on Saturday to accommodate Lynne's schedule. We do not perform service on Saturday. We attempted to fix the issue Lynn requested, and told Lynn that we would call her when it was complete. We would even deliver the vehicle to her home if needed. Lynn showed up without being called to collect the vehicle as the mechanics were completing the job. They were not given time to inspect their work or test to be sure that the vehicle was no longer leaking.
-Shoreline Auto made several attempts to reach out to Lynn and discuss a list of repairs she presented us with from Jeep, but our calls went unanswered.
-All customers have a right to have the vehicle inspected by a mechanic of their choice. A large sign is posted in the office informing customers of this right. It is also clearly stated on the paperwork that [redacted] signed.

light would come on 6 weeks after purchase. When I heard about the light, I offered to have our mechanics check out the problem and see what we could to do help. Chris (owner of Shoreline Auto) attends auctions to purchase inventory every Wednesday and Thursday, and is therefore unable to assist on those days. We are very busy with preparing cars for paying customers, and we were investigating the issue as a favor, at no charge. [redacted] chose to come pick up the car rather than give us some adequate time to resolve the issue.  When she called to inform me about another shop’s diagnosis that the transmission needed to be replaced, I again offered our assistance. No, we will not pay $1,500 to have your vehicle repaired at another shop, that’s not how we (or anyone else) do business. The warranty has a limit of liability of $1,000, therefore it is in your best interest to perform the repairs at the shop which provided you with the best price. I offered to perform the work at Shoreline Auto Sales, promising that we would keep the out of pocket cost to you at only $100 for the deductible. That was my effort to “do the right thing” by compromising on the price of repairs to minimize your out-of-pocket expenses. She then responded that we were liars and she didn’t trust us, so she would not bring the car in. Instead she would rather pay someone else $3,000. We are a fully licensed Dealer & Repair facility, with 4 mechanics, who are fully capable of replacing a transmission. If you don’t trust them to do the work, you are more than welcome to take a day off work and come in and watch the mechanic complete the job. If you would like, we can even take the car back to your personal mechanic to have him sign off that the job was completed. All parts come from the same few places, no matter who orders them. Why not let us help and pay $100 for the warranty deductible? Even asking us to pay half for the job at another shop will still cost you $1,500. I am unable to understand the reasoning behind [redacted]'s decision to take the vehicle elsewhere.  At the present time, I have made 3 reasonable offers: to repair the vehicle for $100 and let the warranty cover the rest of our costs, to allow [redacted] to watch the job being performed if she feels that is necessary, and take it back to her own mechanic for approval. I cannot be more open, honest and transparent than that.  We work very hard to ensure that every customer is happy with their purchase, however we are not able to predict the future with any reasonable accuracy, nor are we a charity service. We are not able to provide a bumper-to bumper warranty on $5,000 vehicles that are over 10 years old. We do our best by purchasing an extended warranty for you. Because the vehicle is over 7 years old, it is sold “As-Is,” according to state law. You are responsible for the vehicle after purchase. We currently have an A+ Revdex.com rating, and this is the first complaint in 12 months, with over 500 vehicles being sold in that time. Knowing that a customer is not happy is upsetting to us and we make every effort to make them happy and earn their trust. I am completely open to continuing this discussion with you if you are willing to work together to come to a reasonable agreement. I am at the shop Monday-Saturday 9-5. ###-###-####.

On February 10, 2014, [redacted] purchased a [redacted] for $2,240 plus taxes and registration. At the time of sale, the
mileage was 133,489. All cars sold at Shoreline Auto Sales are sold “As-Is,”
with no warranty of any kind. This is due to the age (over 7 years) and high
mileage of the vehicles. All cars sold are safety-checked per CT law, and are
legally safe for the road. The tires did not exceed the maximum wear to be
considered safe for the road. If a customer wishes to have new tires, they must
purchase them on their own. On the date of purchase, [redacted] signed in no
less than (6) six locations that he understood the car was being sold “As-Is.”
We allow our customers to take a vehicle they are interested in purchasing for
an inspection at a mechanic of their choice. Any problems that [redacted] experienced
after the time of sale, though unfortunate, are not warrantied by Shoreline
Auto Sales, and repairs must be paid for. One must be aware that both major and
minor repairs are to be expected when purchasing a 14 year old vehicle with
excessive mileage.  Shoreline Auto Sales
has complied fully within the parameters of the law, and has no plans to make
any refund of the purchase or repair costs to [redacted].

Shoreline Auto Sales has no further response to this complaint.

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because: I firmly believe Shoreline Auto deceived me when he said he repaired the fluid leaks and I feel I should be compensated for at least half of the $1,100 I had to spend on repairs he promised to complete.

Review: I bought a car on March 1st Within a week (days) from the day we picked up the car(March 6th) there were safety issues that were not fixedThese being: rotted under carriage, play in control arms, corrosion in axle areaThese were eventually fixed after a week after dealing with the over cockiness of the owner claiming that pictures of the problems were not prove they existedThe owner went as far as claiming the AAA mechanic was wrong (without see the actual car but pictures of the issues)Car was returned to me on the 22nd of Marchdays later the front breaks broke and there was a odd noiseThe mechanic I had fix them stated they were not done correctly the first timeThe pads were severely worn and a caliper was jammedThe noise was from a shield that keeps debris from the areaThis job was completed by my personal mechanicI received my car later the same dayApril 9th (I have officially had this car in my possession for a month and days, not counting the week the company was fixing the first issues) I had to bring my car in again, this time it had a strange noise while driving and was hesitatingMy mechanic now had to replace the exhaust systemThe catalytic converter had to be replaced, it was rotted and the muffler had a hole in itThe exhaust system had also been welded poorly togetherThe car was put through emissions by this company (out sourced to another facility) and it was passedOn the inspection it states there was a visual inspection of the catalytic converter and it was passedClearly the company I bought this car from did not do any inspection on this vehicle when I bought the car and I lost my trust in them after the first issue, hence why I went to my personal mechanic

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the partial settlement response from the business.)
Shoreline Auto Sales are correctI bought the car with an "As-Is" warrantyHowever, they are INCORRECTThey did an safety inspection of the car was done incorrectly, which explains why I had to bring the car back to them once (whithin a week but it was fixed) and brakes failed at the end of March (which is also a safety issue)I am aware of buying a car: Cars do break down but safety issues must be checked PROPERLY by the dealer, which was NOT done in this case
Shoreline Auto had a problem with the mechanic I chose to take it tooI realize repairs are paid out of pocket but safety should be a #priority when selling a car but it didn't matter to themI will leave at that because they didn't care about the person they sold the car too, they made sure the car was partially safe but not 100% safe

Review: PURCHASED A TOTAL PIECE OF CRAP FOR $2,500.00. From day 1 nothing but problems. The Vehicle is a [redacted] 130,000 miles, this vehicle has been MINIMALLY DRIVEN since purchase. The First month or so after purchase it was back and forth to their shop for relatively minor fixes that for some reason could never be completed. On a few trips, the car was their for days, without being touched, then requested we pick it up as they were waiting on a part. When purchased, the car was supposed to have its fluids changed and this 25+ point safety inspection. After examining the vehicle, no fluids were changed, it was also stated the right front ball joint was replaced, that does not appear to have been done. 2 trips were made to get a pulley fixed (again was supposed to be repaired prior to picking up ) Within a day of purchasing the car the check engine light went on, to which the reply was its probably evap which in seeing other complaints seems to be a common excuse. (I replaced the gas cap $15.00) Also, the tires were supposed to be fixed, this did not happen. This was agreed to at time of purchase. Two tires had leaks and on more then one of our visits supposed to be replaced. Finally culminating in we dont have any in that size here, but we can get you tires at our cost from [redacted] (yes, they put the cost on us). This issue alone cost me over $ 300.00 for tires and an alignment. Currently, the car is getting the Transmission rebuilt. To the tune of almost $ 2.000.00. Purchasing a used vehicle is one thing, but hiding behind an as is while claiming to do inspections and agree to work that hasnt been done is not acceptable. It is very apparent they buy auction vehicles and put them directly on their lot doing absolutely nothing. Including repairs agreed to . We are now into this car for over $ 5,000.00. The only responses we got were, well if you bring it in, we can probably tell you whats wrong with it.Desired Settlement: I think at the very least I should be reimbursed for some of these repairs. It is apparent this vehicle was not serviced as agreed prior to sale.

Review: I purchased a 2003 [redacted] from this dealer on July 7, 2015. I was assured by the business owner and his wife [redacted] that the dealership does a complete inspection prior to sale. I do realize the vehicle due to it's age is sold "as is" but was assured by the couple if there were any problems, it would be taken care of. I would have liked to take it to a trusted mechanic prior to final purchase, but even when asking many questions, I was not offered that option. they seemed very honest.

Within days, I noticed leaking fluids wherever I parked the vehicle. In hindsight, I now realize it was parked on a grassy area at the dealer where leaking fluid would not be noticed. Although [redacted] was good to his word about taking care of any problems, when I brought it to him, he stated he was hoping it was the oil pan as it was an easy fix, but he stated it was the rear main seal, which he repaired at no charge to me.

A few days later, I noticed leaking fluid again. When I took it to my local Jeep dealer for a window repair, I asked them to check it. Not only was the oil pan leaking, but there were other fluid leaks as well. I dropped off a report to Shoreline Auto and a few day later received a call to schedule leaving the vehicle for a full day to be checked. At this point, I no longer had trust in the dealership or their mechanic whose credentials I question. I arranged to have the vehicle repaired at a Jeep Specialist I trust. The fluid leak repairs cost me $1,113.46. I have the report on the leaks from the Jeep dealer and the repair bills from the Jeep specialist. I am a senor citizen who up till this point has trust in people. I feel that I should be reimbursed for the repairs I had to do regarding the fluid leaks.Desired Settlement: I would like Shoreline Auto to refund me the $1,113.46 I paid to repair the fluid leaks.

Review: purchased a [redacted] cherokee, had nothing but issues since purchase, firstly we had to replace battery leads and fan relay, that was just after purchase, then the crank sensor replaced, cam shaft sensor replaced, there was an issue with ?? fuel pump that was diagnosed by shoreline auto that actually turned out to be a wire, drove home after apparent fix, next day same issue we had not only had it towed there we had a 100 dollar deducatable to pay, we purchased this vehicle in august it has had just a few days on the road, it is still not starting your company has sold us a LEMON, we have not only be greatly inconvienienced by this, we only have one car now, we have spent extra money parts and used our tows from [redacted].I think one should have certain an expectation of a vehicle working even when second hand, I would highly recommend to avoid this buisneess, this is the eipitomy of 'used care sales men"Desired Settlement: I feel we have been lied and scammed to, I feel the only out come is a refund or exchange, after this fiasco, I f this is not resolved I think I will seek legal help. I feel the lemon law should be applied

Review: On Feb. 12th 2013 I purchased a 98 Ford Ranger from Shoreline Auto Sales for $4451. The salesman assured me it had been checkedby their mechanics, the oil had been changed and was in great condition. A month later the engine blew, the tailpipe fell off and the Check engine light never came on. The owner tells me it's not his problem but agrees to fix it.They end up replacing the engine and tailpipe with a 6 month/6000 miwarranty for $1917.Ten minutes after I pick it up the Check Engine Light goes on. I bring it back immediately, pick it up the next day and again the same thing happens. They figure out its the EGR and I make appointments about 6 more times. Each time I'm sent away because they didn't have the time to fix it.Finally the truck wouldn't start and shook when I turned the wheel. I had also been noticing a slow idle and ticking noise. I contacted Shoreline and told them they needed to finish fixing it.The owner said they replaced some steering fluid, the battery and cleaned the EGR. They never consulted me before doing so and tried to charge me an additional $300+. I asked them to take the battery out and I replaced it myself. The Check engine light did NOT go on but a few weeks later I had it checked at [redacted] and codes for the EGR came up again. I brought it to a mechanic who told me the Check Engine Light was somehow disconnected. There is now a loud ping coming from the engine and the tailpipe has fallen off. My warranty in miles and time is coming up and I want this resolved. I've already given Shoreline $6368 for a truck that doesn't look like it will last a year. Plus I've had to spend Another $600 replacing rotten tires and having multiple diagnosis by other mechanics.Desired Settlement: I would like the tailpipe repaired, the engine repaired or replaced, the EGR correctly cleaned or replaced, and the Check Engine Light to be fully operational. As well as a 6 month warranty on all work and parts. Or enough money to have all this work done by a reputable mechanic. Or buy back the vehicle for $6000 so I can pay off my car loan and buy a truck that works. Or the tailpipe, engine light and EGR fixed with a 6 month warranty, on the engine as well.

Review: We purchased a car from Shoreline Auto in August of 2015. 3 weeks after purchasing the car the check engine light went on. We called our personal mechanic and brought it to him who looked at the codes and said it was all transmission related. We called Shoreline Auto to tell them which they said to drop the car off to them. We did that and they had the car for 4 days. There was every excuse to not look at the car so we picked it up and brought it to a transmission repair shop. The mechanic there flushed out the transmission at a cost to us of $250 to us. Told us to drive the car and any changes to call him asap. 3 weeks later the check engine light went on and we brought it back to the transmission repair shop. The mechanic looked the car over and told us the transmission needs to be replaced. We have had the car for less than 3 months and want Shoreline to at the very least pay for 1/2 of the repairs. They are refusing and said we signed paperwork that says we bought the car as is. How is that possible that 6 weeks after we purchased the car the check engine light went on and we have a transmission issue.Desired Settlement: We already had to pay $250 to repair the car. We are looking to have Shoreline pay for 1/2 of the repairs and they are refusing.

Response:

I’m sorry that [redacted] is having trouble with her [redacted]. At Shoreline Auto Sales, we work very hard to select only the best vehicles to offer for sale, and we thoroughly inspect each one and perform any necessary service. There is absolutely no way to know that an engine light would come on 6 weeks after purchase. When I heard about the light, I offered to have our mechanics check out the problem and see what we could to do help. Chris (owner of Shoreline Auto) attends auctions to purchase inventory every Wednesday and Thursday, and is therefore unable to assist on those days. The codes present were for electronic transmission sensors and required more research to accurately diagnose. We are very busy with preparing cars for paying customers, and we were investigating the issue as a favor, at no charge. In order to keep the business running, free work comes last on the list, but is never ignored. There was no advance appointment made, I told them to bring it in when they could.

Review: Purchased a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee for $6,000.00 from Shoreline Auto Sales & Repair on November 1 2012, picked it up about 5:00 pm, the next morning at about 9:30 am not even 24 hrs later the radiator began to leak, I called shoreline they told me it was not covered and I would have to pay for it, it cost me $300.00+, there were also other issues such as recalls and other items not in working order and they also they never took it through emissions I found that out when I got a notice to do so, I doubt they ever did a safety check a fog light was out, not to mention the vehicle was not even cleaned inside or out it was disgusting, for that type of money you think they would have cleaned it. It is now a little over a year later and a piece of body has fallen off due to body rot that was never repaired properly. I would never refer anyone to this business not even an enemy, they are shysters.Desired Settlement: I want to be compensated, I paid a lot of money and these types of things should not happen, I have read the other complaints and this seems to be a pattern.
