We are sorry to hear that one of our patients expressed a
concern about Paye Eye Care Center.  We
want to take a moment to verify the facts. 
The patient purchased a pair of eyeglasses on 11/13/2012.  She recently asked for her PD measurement,
stating that she...

was planning to purchase a new pair of eyeglasses online.  Pupil distance (PD) determines where to place
the center of each lens in the frame. 
This fitting measurement is crucial to ensure that eyeglasses provide
the best possible vision results, especially for higher prescriptions. 
Per the American Optometric Association and the State of
Wisconsin Department of Regulation and Licensing Statutes and Administrative
Code, the PD measurement is not part of a patient’s prescription.  In fact, optometrists can legitimately charge
for the service of measuring and providing the PD.  Our $25 fee includes not only taking the
measurement but verifying that the prescription was filled correctly.  In fact, a study conducted last year by the
Optical Laboratories Association and The Vision Council found an alarming rate
of problems with prescription compliance and impact resistance.  Nearly half of the eyeglass prescriptions (44.8%)
filled online had incorrect or safety issues. 
At our patient’s request, we will release the PD measurement
used for making her eyeglasses back in 2012. 
The PD was 59.0 mm.  This represents the horizontal measurement
and does not account for how the new frame will fit on her face.  If our patient requests verification that the
spectacle prescription was filled properly or wishes to have the frame
adjusted, the $25 fee will apply or she can work with the online retailer.
