Terrible service. They will bill you for a service and continue renewing it even after you have asked them to terminate the service. The comment from customer service was there is nothing we can do.

I have used shutterstock on multiple occasion and I normally only purchase their £ 34.80 for 5 pictures and I realised yesterday that they have charged me US$ 118.80 - significantly greater amount for "365-day Subscription, Standard License with 50 Downloads per Month (11 Payments Remaining)" which 1. I know I did not sign up for and 2. Has auto renewal on which again I did not subscribe to. I deem this to be a fraudulent activity has I hav not autorised this money to be taken out of my account and I demand it is refunded

Shutterstock is a stock photo site. I chose an image plan and I remember I chose auto renewal off. However, they turned it on without my permission. I tried to cancel the image plan, however, there is no way that I can cancel it. Then I tired to delete my credit card information and found that I am not able to delete it neither.

Shutterstock Customer Care Team

Shutterstock signed me up for an ongoing monthly subscription without my permission. I noticed this had occurred and attempted to remove my payment method. I was unable to delete my payment method or turn off auto renewal. After contacting support they refused to cancel my subscription and tried to tell me I needed to pay an additional 40$ to cancel a contract I never agreed to or signed.

I am not in the process of disputing the charges with my bank and creating a stop payment.

Shutterstock Response • Dec 03, 2018

As a courtesy, this customer was not charged an early termination fee. Further, he was provided the refund he sought on 11/. Accordingly, we consider this matter resolved, but please contact me if you have further questions. Thanks!

Shutterstock charged my card without my permission and will not give me a refund. I called into the company when I saw the charge on my card and was told it was an auto renewal charge and the charge will not be refunded. I never gave Shutterstock permission to auto renew anything on my account. When I ask them to show me where I gave them permission, I was told it must have been on my receipt from a previous transaction. However, when I look at the past receipts that are shown on the Shutterstock website, I do not see it there. Therefore, I feel like this company is taking advantage of me as a customer and is using this auto renew charge as a way of getting extra money from their customers.

I signed up for credits to stock photography and did not realize I was committing to a plan that had a cancellation policy where I would need to pay to cancel. I am being charged 30 dollars a month for a product I don't use and can not cancel without a penalty. Other companies have models with no cancellation issues.

Shutterstock Response • Dec 03, 2018

Dear ***,

I have reviewed the customer's account and do not see that she has contacted us in regards to this matter. Further, the account appears to be actively in use, contrary to customer's claim that she does not have a use of the products. The customer has had other subscription accounts with us int he past so it is not likely that she was aware she was signing up for a subscription product.

Please let me know if you have any questions about this.

Used Shutterstock to store and possibly sell my photos. After a year I asked for my account to be cancelled and to be paid for any sales. The amount of sales is under $5.00.

Shutterstock refuses to pay me. I have been dealing with their "customer service" for two months but all I get is the runaround.

When purchasing images, they have an auto renew feature which makes no sense. This is simply a way to take money from their customers unwittingly. It is a shameful business practice.

I had my account a year and they still won't let me cancel the account. They steal from people.

They refuse to cancel my subscription and want 40.00 in order to convert annual commitment subscription to a monthly subscription. I do not want any subscriptions and cannot afford 40.00 to give them to cancel my subscription. If I cannot afford the payments anymore, how will I afford giving them 40.00? Does not make sense to me and every contract can be broken.

On 5//18 I purchased a 5-pack of stock photos for $49.00. I downloaded 4/5 photos on 8//18, so I have 1 photo left that I paid for. This morning (8//18) I noticed another $49.00 charge on my statements and called Shutterstock to notify them of a mistake, especially since I never signed or agreed to this. The Shutterstock customer services person was very rude and told me that I signed up for a monthly 5-pack subscription. When I said that I did not, they just kept talking over me and telling me that I did, and there's no reversing any charges. I mentioned that even if I did sign up for this, why would they take the funds significantly less than a month apart if it is in fact a monthly fee. They just kept repeating the same thing, so I decided to go online. Other reviews suggest that they will make you pay to cancel this hidden subscription, and truthfully, I don't make enough to be scammed by something I never agreed to. I hope Revdex.com can look into this. Thank you for your time.

On *** Apr 2018 I bought a 750 image package using the standard licensing option.
I used some images to write a book which I am selling in a marketplace. On -Aug-2018 I received a DMCA take down notice removing my content from the marketplace as I was accused by copyright infringement by the artist who owns the one of the images within my book.
I contacted Shutterstock on the same day and they asked me to report to the artist the licensing id which I did however the artist is still disputing the copyright and he told me he would engage Shutterstock which would take a couple of days since Shutterstock would take days to come back to him.
I called shutterstock twice and finally opened a case *** asking them to expedite and engage the artist as currently my book is still out of the market I still dont have any confirmation from Shutterstock that they will do so. The artist and Shutterstock profited from me. I trusted Shutterstock and now I dont have any support from them. They are playing games with me and I am really frustrated. I just want to use what I paid for nothing else.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.

Company is a complete scam. They set you up on auto renew without a way to turn it off until you call them and complain, but by then they have double charged you. Extremely deceptive! Do not use them. They know what they are doing because the customer service people will not break from their script. Their business practices are full fledged fraudulent and they need to be held accountable. Never use them unless you want to be scammed.

This company is a complete scam. I purchased the annual package for 10 downloads per month back in April. I used two downloads. Apparently what they don't tell you when you sign up for the plans is that if you don't use your downloads within the month they disappear. They also so not send any notification for billing or notification that your available downloads will expire. Called customer service and the rep kept ignoring my request for a transfer to a supervisor. I am now out nearly $100 with only 10 image downloads available on my account. I have asked for an account cancellation and a refund for the images I didn't use. The rep refused. The best they would do is credit me for the downloads I didn't use but then I'm right back in the same spot next month. Avoid this company at all costs!!!

I cancelled my Shutterstock membership because of this SHADY billing policy. They charged me 3 days in advance for a monthly membership because of...
" Monthly renewal takes place few - several days in advance just in case the card processing may end up in error for the first attempt. Actual allotment become available only after the current monthly cycle is over."
No other subscription, membership or billing company does this - charges early because " just in case the card processing may end up in error for the first attempt." Shutterstock, you people are SHADY and UNETHICAL as hell.
No wonder your stock performance over the past 5 years has been so poor. No wonder 14 out of 22 complaints on the Revdex.com are regarding billing issues.
No wonder all of the customer reviews in any rating site for Shutterstock has a POOR rating.

They do lots of deceitful advertising, they sell low quality footage but advertise it as web version until you purchase it and then in the invoice it shows as low quality and not usable for web at all and the customer service tells you it's for phone only!!!

This company puts all your purchases on Auto renewal and there is no way to turn it off.
I purchased a yearly plan and wanted to cancel it after using for 6 months.. they do not allow it to be done online and you have to call their support number. The only one support number for India is always switched off!
When I insisted turning off Auto renewal they said it can be changed only during last month - so if you forget, you can again be hooked for another year and so on!
They charged full year cost taking $120 from me before allowing me to cancel my debit card on file with them!
I will NEVER ever use services of this company. Seems like a fraud to me.

I, too, have been mislead by Shutterstock and their automatic charges each month. When I signed up for a what I thought was a 30 day trial 8 months ago, I didn't expect it to be an automatic payment that I had to opt out of. I never sign up for these type of deals because I don't want to go through the hassle of going back into the account and opting out a month later. No emails were sent each month letting me know that I was charged $49. Their $49 charge is just under my American Express alert notifications, so I never got alerted that I had a charge. This is quite calculated and unethical.

Just found out that Shutterstock has been automatically renewing and charging my card for two photo plans. They've been doing it for two years for a single purchase I made three years ago and do not even send an email receipt that they've charged you, propagating this fraud of misleading and overcharging customers. This business needs to be inspected closely by the NY Attorney General.
