Hit and run!
On June 9th, I had just handed Jason his final payment. When he was leaving, he backed into my wife's van, putting a huge dent, scratch and chipping the paint on the door. Instead of stopping, telling me, filing a police report, etc he drove off. He later admitted fault and said that he would take care of it, to get a bid for repair so he could decide to pay cash or file an insurance claim. We got a bid from our body shop promptly the following day and I sent that to him. He told me at that point to 'give him a couple of days to straighten everything out', which I did. After about a week I contacted him and that's when he admitted to being uninsured but then also told me he 'didn't have the money'. Just within just the previous month, I had paid him $10,750 for his work. He's since told me 'not to bother him anymore' and ignores me and won't respond.

We hired Shy Construction LLC in June 2018. We followed proper protocol for going through Maryland Heights and getting a permit. Jason Shy was very rude the entire time. Any questions I had about the deck he brushed me off. He made countless excuses about doing the work and how difficult of a job it was. Six months after the deck was built, in the winter time January 2019, an extreme amount of frost built up inside the house on our sliding glass door, and made the floor extremely cold which had never happened in the 8 years we have owned our house. Starting this spring, April 2019 we had called to get a quote for a new sliding door. The window contractor said our deck was built too high and it would be really difficult to install a new window. We got another opinion on the deck, and they also said this deck was built too high. This resulted in water being trapped and causing the frost and water damage being caused to our home. When we contacted Shy, he kept telling us it was our fault for the materials we chose, and that it passed inspection. He would not agree to come out and look or even talk to us about the deck. He also claimed he was too busy to speak with us. He also said he would send out one of his guys to look at the deck but claimed his guy wasn't allowed to talk to us about what we wanted to have him review. Then when he never came out, I contacted again. Claimed again he was just too busy and would try to come out. Never did. Then gave me an excuse that he has some family/personal issues and would try to find some time to come out. This was June 2019. Now, in July 2019 when I tried to find a way to settle the situation he called me a harasser and said to stop calling him. This has been the worst experience with a contractor. He doesn't stand by his work and now our house is damaged because he doesn't care. He continuously blames the materials I chose and not his work. He started building on Thursday July 19th 2018 and didn't finish until October 1st 2018. Way too long to finish a project in my opinion. He also had constant issues with his crew, either not showing up for work (and he didn't know about it) or not following up properly with Maryland Heights.

Shy Construction Response • Jul 29, 2019

The deck passed final inspection. Our schedules did conflict and I did try to come out 3 separate times. She wanted to be there. Each time I called to come, she was not there and I could not come out. I did do extra things for her which resulted in her home being safer for her and her children. Every electrical plate in the basement/toddlers' playroom was off and asked her if I could put them on and why I wanted to put them on. I did not charge her for this. I wanted the area to be safer for her. I also put up another 4x8 plywood where the fence meets her carport, so that her pitbull would not get out of the yard. Again, I asked before I did this and did not charge her.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

He is outright lying. I want to be there to discuss the concerns I have with the deck. The other things that were performed on our house have no bearing on what I need to talk about, which is the Deck. The inspections have nothing to do with what I am talking about either. He also did not call 3 times, not once actually. Every time I asked when he was available he said he was too busy and couldn't come out or that he would send his 'guy' but that 'guy' was not allowed to talk with me or represent him in any decisions. He made no real effort to meet with me. I have text proof of his responses that he mentions he would not come out.

Sincerely
