Sierra Leone General Contractors Reviews (3)

Hired hi to do a basement remodel. The work was poor and had to point out things done wrong on a daily basis etc, doors hung the wrong way, doors not fitting properly, gaps in sheetrock. He promised professional cleaning crew to clean up all his debris and stains to my carpet from his workers but never followed through. I followed up with the city building permit division and he never bothered to file a building permit for the work that was done. All in all terible business practices and awful craftsmanship!!!!

Review: We hired [redacted] in May 2013 to do the following work: build us a sunroom addition that was to be both heated and cooled, a new garage, re-roof our existing house and put in a new vinyl fence. This was delayed until June because we wanted to follow all of the rules and apply and get a variance to build the added structures. The variance was not approved until July 3, 2013. [redacted] was resistant to us wanting to get the variance and have all aspects of the project inspected and signed off on. He continually stated that the inspector did not know what he was talking about. [redacted] started the project by removing our existing concrete patio and replacing it with a monolithic slab. The inspector did not think the slab was deep enough. The inspector [redacted] told us that the slab needed the frost barrier (blue board) to pass. This blue board is still not installed and our addition will not pass inspection. We consulted with a new contractor who informed us that the addition should have been built as a separate foundation and that the blue board has to be installed at the time of the concrete pour. Now this will cost a significant amount to fix. Next he proceeded to begin to dig the garage area. When the utility line marker came to the house he told me that the gas line ran right under where we were going to put the garage. [redacted] then told me that he built garages over gas lines all the time and that he called MDU and the city and they told him it was acceptable. I thought this sounded suspicious so I called the city and they told me I needed to move the gas line. I paid MDU to come and move the line. Next [redacted] began work on the existing house roof. The new contractor has told us that the roof was installed incorrectly and should be taken off and re-done. [redacted] did not follow the shingle installation instructions. Next they began the framing for the addition. When the inspector came to inspect the framing, he informed me that [redacted] had used 2 x 4 framing and this would not accommodate the correct R value insulation for a heated structurehe should have built the framing with 2 x 6 walls. To fix this error we had to use spray in insulation, which is considerably more money. Next we had [redacted] install light tubes which are still not finished. They then put in the window and doors. The windows will have to be removed because he used windows that are intended for replacement and not new construction. New construction windows have a flange on the outside which creates the seal when they are nailed to the sub-framing wood sheeting. The window we received will never seal correctly and will leak. During the last rain storms the windows have all leaked. The door was not installed correctly and does not close properly and leak underneath. Next the roof in the addition failed inspection because [redacted] did not use the correct R value insulation in the attic. This is still not done and the roof is still not completed and there are vent holes left completely exposed to the elements. Our new contractor has covered these up for now so the rain will not ruin the interior of our house. The interior sheet rock has been damaged by water due to the leaking windows and door. The floor of the addition has not been started or completed. The garage was never even started. The siding was incorrectly installed and will need to be replaced. He use inferior weather sheeting and the contract called for him to use Tyvek. Our fence is destroyed in one large sectionhe hauled it off. Our sprinkler system in the back yard has been destroyed. We continually asked [redacted] to clean up the yard but he just ignored our requests. The yard is full of garbage and a huge pile of dirt. By the end of August we began having difficulty in contacting [redacted] and no one would show up to do any work. He would not return our calls.Desired Settlement: We have paid [redacted] $32,800.00 for these projects. We advanced him $2452.92 for the fencing materials and have not received it. We advanced him $2000.00 for the down payment towards the garage. We advanced him $1700.00 for the garage door, $1900 for framing materials, $678.00 for roofing material. This totals $6278.00 plus the fencing material $2452.95. This total $8730.95 owed to us from the project. It will cost us around $5000.00 to fix the mistakes made on the additionthe blue board, the windows, the siding, the roof insulation the finish work insidetrim and flooring. It will cost us $8000.00 to replace the roof. It will cost us $1500.00 just to fix the fence. The sprinkler system ??? Inevitably, we would like our $8730.95 back but more importantly something needs to be done to hold [redacted] accountable for his theft of our money. We investigated him and he has several claims against him for taking honest peoples money and walking off the job. This should be a crime.

Our experience with this company was very disappointing. Hired to stain 1500 sguare feet of concrete I ended up with stain on my doors trash outside of windows cracks not sealed and no clean up job was never completed what an absolute mess
