Received estimate for repairing of kitchen flooring, removal of cabinets, countertop, plumbing under sink, removal of moldy flooring and replace. Also to replace cabinets and repair backsplash that was damaged during removal of cabinets as well as install new sink, faucets, garbage disposal and dishwasher. $12,600

Paid $5,500 up front so he could order cabinets and countertop and begin job.

They came in removed top floor and removed cabinets and cut the copper line to the ice maker. Tried using a blower to dry up the moldy floor, sprinkled powdered substance back onto the moldy floor and placed wood panels over top of that. The mold is still there on the subfloor.

Have been without kitchen this whole time(1 Month) then Covid-19 hit and I told them to stop. I sked him to deliver my cabinets and countertop since I assumed he had ordered them. He had me pick out the countertop that I wanted and suggested a new floor before the cabinets were here so I did that. Since I had the $2500 estimate for the cabinets and countertop. He did not have anything ordered. I asked him what happened to the $5,500? He claims that is for the work he already did.

What work he has done does not come close to the $5,500 I paid him.

Desired Outcome

Refund I would like to get a full refund of the monies submitted to him, $5500.00. We are in the process of submitting a claim in small claims court in efforts to recover additional monies spent to fix the damage they caused. NOTE: I could not upload all my photos. I have photos of all work orders, damage to my kitchen, as well as good photos of the moldy subfloor left behind.

Price May Vary Depending On What Other Issues We May Run Into. Price that was approved was $6500.00.

Estimate approved on 02/24/2020 for $6500.00

Customer approved job on 02/24/2020 for $6500 before work started. We have signature on file.

We received a check on 02/24/2020 for $3000.
Work started Wednesday 02/26/2020. This is when we started removing the moldy cabinets and discovered that we weren't going to be able to dry out the floor and we were going to have to replace it. The removal of the moldy floor took several days to remove and reinstall. We have before and after photos of this process.
All information on this invoice was completed except the cabinets, dishwasher and drain line that was to be completed when the cabinets were installed. The back splash that was addressed in ***'s complaint was additional work we said we would complete due to us accidentally tearing her black splash while removing her moldy cabinets but is wasn't able to be complete until the cabinets were re-installed.
$3500 is ***'s open balance for invoice #***.

Invoice #*** details include: New Bottom Cabinets (39", 27", 29", 42", 24", 29",15") Try to match top cabinets close as we can (customer can pick color). New laminate counter top color can be picked by customer. Price that was approved was $5500.00

Estimate approved on 02/27/2020

Payment of $2500 was paid on 02/27/2020

This process of ordering cabinets took awhile due to the customer having to pick out the counter tops and us trying to match the style of their cabinets. The cabinets *** has in her home are a 70's style and we were unable to find identical cabinets. The cabinets that were picked out were unfinished, so we got stain to match their top cabinets. We have papers showing we got quotes on the cabinets from Menards. We also have the stain that was going to be professionally done through another company.
Before the cabinets got ordered, Covid-19 happened, and *** started saying unkind words to myself and my employee that had been working on this job. At this point *** said she didn't want to continue with installing the cabinets and counter tops. I then applied her down payment of $2500.00 for the cabinets to her other bill of $3500.00 that was still owed. I have photos before any work started, while the work was being done, and what we completed as well as documentation.

Customer Response • Apr 22, 2020

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
On invoice #*** they did remove cabinets and countertops. They did dry out rotted wood with fans. They sprayed stuff on the subfloor and covered it with plywood, so subfloor was not replaced and mold was not removed but treated with whatever they sprayed on it. Not completed on #*** replace 1 1/2 inch drain line from crawl space to kitchen sink, install the dishwasher, and reset cabinets and countertops. For this I paid $3,000.00. We gave *** the sample for the countertop on February 27, 2020. For the matching of my cabinets I knew due to the age of them that they could not match them completely. This was not an issue. On March 12, 2020, Siferd brought a door sample with sample stains to be approved for use on the new cabinets. A stain was approved that same day and Siferd indicated that they would get started on them that weekend. Again leading me to believe the cabinets were here. So COVID-19 hit and I said to just deliver my cabinets and countertop and we would resume after this was over. Invoice #*** was for $5,500.00 of which I paid $2,500.00 for the cabinets and countertop. Found out the cabinets and countertop were never ordered was heartbreaking to hear. I went and purchased the same cabinets and countertop which cost me $2,138.73. Big difference from the $5,500.00 invoice. Since I have never signed anything except for my checks, I would like to see the alleged signature that he has on file. In addition to the loss that this has caused, I have had to borrow money from my mom and taken money out of my retirement, emptied my savings, having anxiety attacks and not to mention trying to live without a kitchen since February. This has taken a toll and yes unkind words were exchanged between us. At present we are seeking a full refund and if this is not foreseeable then I will have no other option then to seek legal advice.

AWESOME!! CALL SIFERDS PLUMBING AND HEATING. Friendly and Professional. 100% SATISFACTION

I hired the owner as a General Contractor to build on an attached 2.5 car garage, replace all siding, install a complete central heat/air system, and install new windows.

The owner quoted the project at $28,000 and asked for 50% down. Because he was a friend of a friend, I agreed and paid cash.

It took him over 3 months to even start. When he did, he would start and leave projects half complete for weeks at a time. When attaching the garage, he cut concrete inside our existing home, and left concrete dust all over our personal items like electronics, furniture, etc...

When replacing a downstairs window, he removed the old window and 'HEADER', and installed the new window without a header. Within days, the wall began to sag and shattered the new window.

The AC/Heating system he put in emitted pungent fumes throughout the house. The roof he installed on the garage, he used way too thin material, and cut his cost by spacing the trusses much farther than maximum specifications. After the first six months into the project... with much work yet to be completed... and fixed correctly... I began to have strangers show up at my door demanding money. It turned out the owner told his subcontractors to collect from me because I had not paid yet. I showed each subcontractor the signed agreement and cleared check / payment paid to the owner. They then went on to say, this happened often when working for Siferds.

Eventually, I had to hire a new Contractor to fix the many problems and finish the project because I was promoted to a new position out of state with my company, and had to sell and move.

I filed a lawsuit and won a judgement, but never could collect because of my out of state situation.

I highly warn against using this contractor. No character or ethics. My entire experience was terrible! From the beginning I was misled, scammed, and my kindness taken advantage off.

It was a learning experience. I have since been very thorough when dealing with Contractors... background checks, detailed contracts, and payments after suitable services.
