Response:It is documented that [redacted] did in fact inform Dr T[redacted] that she was going to purchase Equate (ocufilcon-B)1- day lenses from [redacted]. Equate 1 -day lenses are a private label sold and fit only at [redacted]. Dr. T[redacted] is unable to fit a lens we simply do not have available during an...
exam. He did however, fit and write a prescription for ClearSight (Ocufilcon-B) 1- day lenses by Cooper Vision. [redacted] simply has Cooper Vision re-package the ClearSight 1-day lenses as their own private brand that they can market and use exclusivley for their customers. Drs write prescriptions for contact lenses for nationally recognized brands, so they can be purchased at any retailer or online. We do not require patients to purchase from us. Any optical profession selling contacts lenses in [redacted] should be fully educated and aware that their private brand, Equate 1- day, is in fact a Coopervision ClearSight 1-day repackaged as their own private brand that only they can sell. Knowing this common information, the optician in that vision center should have simply been able to fill the prescription, and if still unsure, call our office to verify that it is ok. Prescriptions to be filled need to be discussed from optical professional to optical professional, not through patients and/or customers. No one from [redacted] contacted our office to verify the prescription or ask if private label substitution was in fact ok, and there was no need for [redacted] to suggest a re-exam, since Equate is really a Clearsight 1-day, in which the prescription was written for. Furthermore, as the head Dr in this practice, I personally handle all questions and/or issues with patients and customers myself when a message is left for me. This is the first I am hearing of the situation. Dr William F[redacted]
