To whom it may concern,
As I explained to the customer, we order extra materials to every job for a multitude of reasons. It is a standard industry practice to include a "waste factor" as part of the estimate. In the case of this roof, the...

insurance company made an allowance for waste at 10% of the total square. This allowance is also to cover ridge cap, nails, felt, caulk and other incidental items that they do not provide for in their estimate. This is to account for shingles that must be discarded at the end of a run, as well as if there is any damaged material on site. In this case, the roll of felt was damaged, and thankfully our crew grabbed an extra roll that they had with them to complete that part of the task. Further, we completed the installation of this roof based on the numbers from his insurance company.
The customer said that there were 6 "unused" bundles. I confirmed onsite that there were only 2. The other 4 were partial bundles, and as I mentioned above, the roll of felt had a cut in it that penetrated several layers and therefore should have been discarded.
We also always leave 1-2 bundles for the homeowner. Should the homeowner have an issue with a tree-branch hitting the roof, or similar, then they will have a perfect match for the repair. This is also a standard practice in our industry.
Finally, and most importantly, our contract clearly states "All unused material shall remain the property of Company". I attempted to explain this to Mr. [redacted], however our conversation was ended abruptly. I would be more than happy to share the fully executed contract with the Revdex.com, however there is no area to upload supplemental information on this form.
Should you have any questions or require additional information, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
Kindest regards,
[redacted]
