Silver Auto Sales Reviews (3)

I traveled 7/hours from Pittsburgh to get a lexus and when I got there everything went as plannedMy salesman was Mike *** and he was greatHe was very honest and fair about the dealRon in finance was honest as well, I had a very positive experience with Silver Auto and plan to business in the future with them! I highly recommen their business!

Several weeks ago my wife and I were in the market for a newer BMW X We were unable to find one in our local car market so we searched autotrader.com and was able to find a well equipped with fairly low miles at Silver Auto Sales
I contacted the dealership to get more information about the vehicle The representative said the vehicle was in great condition and sent pictures I decided after looking at pictures, reviewing the Carfax report, and talking with the staff about the vehicle, I was going to tentatively make the purchaseOne quick note, this vehicle was well within KBB's fair market price
I flew into Chicago about a week later and mwith my father in-law to drive out to the dealership We arrived about 12PM and met with a sales associate to look at the X First impression of the vehicle was good! It looked exactly the way it was described I went on a test drive and decided to buy it The process was relatively quick and easy Took about hours Nice work Silver!
About a week after I purchased the vehicle I noticed a slight shudder when downshifting into 1st, just before stopping (more pronounced during city driving with radio turned off) The shudder was clearly not brake related, more drivetrain So I took it to my local BMW dealership (same place I have my series serviced) to look at it I really wasn't sure it the shudder was normal, kind of figured it wasn't, Anyways, I had them look at it and the shop foreman said the transfer case was going bad and that it was probably like that for some time $to complete the repairs OUCH!!
Well as to be expected I was quite upset with this news Before calling all parties involved, and being completely emotional, I decided to contact BMW of North America to see if the manufacture would offer some assistance After haggling with them for two days, the decision was made, no assistance!! I also contacted the dealership where the vehicle was diagnosed to see if they would help out No luck At least not initially
After about a five days of getting nowhere, I called Silver Auto Sales and talked to the sales manager Zac I told him about the repairs needed on a vehicle that I just purchased from them He told me that he was surprised the vehicle made it through two vehicle inspections (one at a BMW dealership in Elmhurst, IL) without identifying the defective transfer case He also said he was going to do everything necessary to make this unfortunate situation right
It took about two days to finally see progression The end result was this: Zac talked with the Service Manger at the BMW dealership They agreed to cover $of the expense, Silver Auto Sales covered $1200, and I paid $plus tax Which, in my opinion, was pretty fair being that the vehicle was purchased AS IS/NO WARRANTY
Many might come to the conclusion that Silver Auto Sales should've covered my portion of the expense as well, due to the fact they sold a vehicle with defective transfer case But I believe there was no malicious intent involved And that Silver Auto Sales probably did not even know the transfer case was bad in the first place If they did, they would've had it repaired before selling it I also believe consumers should take a certain level of responsibility when buying a used vehicle Maybe set a few hundred, or a few thousand dollars off to the side for the what if scenario People need to come to the realization that at the end of the day, $%&! happens
All and all, my car buying experience with Silver Auto Sales has been mostly positive The outcome could've been completely different and quite possibly worse for everyone involved Take care!!

Do not do business with them! Do not trust them! They cover up and lie about how damaged their cars are!

I found a Hyundai Genesis Coupe at Silver auto that was reasonably priced so I called them up to confirm that it is available and to ask if it has any problems. Mike said that the car was in good condition "as far as he knew." I told him that I had to drive 2h to their dealership so I wanted all facts up front but he said that the car was fine. When I arrived, the coupe looked fine from outside, besides minor dings, which can be expected. I asked Mike to see the inspection report that Silver Auto performed when they got the car but he said that he could not give that to me but that report exists. This got me suspicious. Before he let me take the car to a mechanic he made me sign paperwork that said I could not negotiate price based on mechanic's assessment. Do dealerships do that? Here I asked him again if he knew of anything wrong with the car and he said it was just fine. As I kept asking more questions Mike kept getting more defensive.

I took the car to the Hyundai dealership to get it inspected and when they lifted the car we found out that it was in a severe crash. The car had cracked brackets, dripping engine fluids, bent bars, missing engine covers, bent wheels, etc. The car was fixed to hide the damage from the outside but it was fixed not up to spec. It would cost $5,000+ to get it fixed correctly based on visual damage but the mechanic said that it may cost well over $10,000 if they discover in further inspection.

Mike from Silver Auto PURPOSELY HID SERIOUS DAMAGE from me. He tried to sell me a broken car for $18,500 but in the end he wasted my 6 h and $60 for a car inspection. When I confronted him he told me that he was not aware of the damage. How? He confessed that they replaced and repainted the bumper so they did see under the car. The issues with the car became obvious to me because I'm a mechanical engineer but I'm afraid that poor families without a technical understanding of cars may not easily detect problems and spend money on something that will break down quickly. Please don't let them stay in business so they could take advantage of others!

There are 2 ways to describe Silver Auto, and especially Mike. Either they are crooks who try to sell you broken cars by making them look clean or, if you trust Mike, then they are incompetent and don't know how badly their cars are broken? Which of the two would you prefer your dealership to be?

I can provide a record of my conversation with Mike and a copy of the car inspection record if asked.
