Review: 2000 Harley Davidson FLTRI purchased 2/15/2010 with a five year extended warranty from Simi Valley Harley Davidson. Motorcycle started having issues at speeds of 65 mph with a "wobble" in February. Was sent to Simi Harley service with no resolution other than front tire might need balancing. Motorcycle continued to have issues, sent to my personal mechanic who found the swing arm was fractured/cracked in May. Immediately sent to Simi Harley service 5/16/14 as this is a dangerous safety issue. Informed on 5/20/14 by Amanda, Warranty Manager of Simi Harley that the extended service policy I purchased with the bike would not cover $1471.40 of $3022.76 warranty work as the part for the bike is no longer made by Harley Motor Co and they will not cover an item they deem an "upgrade" on a discontinued part as service will have to use an aftermarket part and refit my bike for it. Replacing the rear fork assembly, pivot bearings, caliper assembly, rear axle, axle adjuster and various bearings and nuts to refit for a new aftermarket swing arm that is not Harley stock and has had no Harley based research and development done. I do not see how Simi Harley can sell a motorcycle and an extended 5 warranty at a cost of $2186.00 and not cover the cost of work that is a system safety issue. The aftermarket kit that is being used is unknown to me if it has any issues, as it seems my year of bike has known swing arm issues according to my mechanic. I am currently looking into the "Lemon Law", if a vehicle cannot be fixed to the satisfaction of the consumer with parts made by the manufacturer something must be done and I am not satisfied with using parts that are not Harley specific for my type motorcycle without knowing the track record of the kit being used since it is a structural safety component.Desired Settlement: Replacement of the swing arm with the aftermarket kit and refitting components added to bike at no cost to this consumer other than the $50.00 extended service plan deductible. If this cannot be managed with safety of the bike and consumer topmost, I will request a refund of the total cost of the bike and the 5 year extended warranty at the time of purchase on 2/15/10 totaling $12,845.13, as well as any legal fees incurred to come to this arrangement.
