Simon Auto Service, LLC Reviews (2)

Revdex.com,I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID *** and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. Regards, *** ***
Notation from *** ***
I fully accept Hal's explanation letter. I fully accept responsibility of accepting life time friend *** who is also a mechanic (another state) to help me out with him stopping at Hal's to get the detail of what was wrong with my car
In the past times I've used Hal, (per VERY HIGH recommendation from my brother) I always felt comfortable/confident that he was upstanding, honest, sincere hard working man/mechanic
I'm at work, this is very brief as it's a very busy dayI plan to call Hal during my lunch hour, which may not be until sometime this afternoon
I left a brief message with *** voice mail box this morning too

The customer *** *** brought the vehicle for a quick initial inspection two weeks prior to the appointment to have an initial look at the vehicleThe vehicle was not raised on hoist due to availability of a open hoist and current work in shop ,but was inspected as well as could
be seen, oil was noticed across the underside of vehicle and entire oil pan was coveredAt that time we had discussed replacing the oil pan gasket and an estimate was given for oil pan gasket to *** and she agreed to bring the vehicle back on the 18th of august to have it replaced*** was also told at that time that there is a possibility there may be a leak between the engine and transmission, but since there is so much oil covering the entire bottom of the engine and transmission , the oil pan is the cheaper of the two to start. A gentleman friend of *** *** ( *** ***) brought the vehicle in on the 18th and left vehicleI did not have any contact with *** at that timeThe oil pan gasket was out of stock and was not available until 11:00am on the 19th*** called to check on the vehicle on the evening of the 18th and I told her that all the parts stores including the dealer were out of stock on the oil pan gasketThe engine was leaking from the front side of the oil pan near timing cover and front edge of engine to oil pan behind the starter( gasket was leaking, and when removed showed signs of not sealing, a mark across gasket surface near timing cover area, and gasket was not sticking above the pan surface to create a seal)Installed new gasket and put UV dye in engine with new oil and filter and let run for minutes in stallNo oil was seen dripping from oil panI then test drove vehicle and noticed some oil coming from and seeping on the rear of the oil panWith a uv black lamp I found that oil is indeed coming from between the engine and transmission( 2nd leak) This was about 5:45pm on the 19thThe customer *** *** arrived at my shop to pick her vehicle up around 6:00pm on the 19th and I had two other customers drive in at the same timeI explained the situation to *** ** that there was another leak showing up and we needed to remove the transmission to make sure of where it was coming from, ( could be rear main seal, or a pin hole in the casting of the block) There is also a service bulletin from GM that indicates there is a new style rear main seal available, but to inspect the PCV system first to make sure it is operatingI asked *** Hif she wanted to leave her vehicle , or did she want to take her vehicle ( knowing this is her only vehicle). She decided to take her vehicle( I did not have her pay anything for this repair on the 19th when she picked her vehicle up)She said she would call me on Thursday the 20th, but I did not receive any phone call from her. I did receive a visit from her friend *** ***, and he asked about her vehicle, and I explained the situation with the oil leakthat these are two separate oil leaks, one from the oil pan and one from in between the engine and transmissionI told him about the service bulletin I had found and also told him I would repair her vehicle on Saturday the 22nd ( when my shop is normally closed)I told him how much the oil pan gasket repair was $, and how much the rear main seal repair would be since they are separate repairs ( I also told him the transmission would need to be remove to determine exactly what was leaking behind the engine since the area is not visible )At this point no payment was made and still no contact from *** *was made about thisSince this vehicle was not owned by Mr*** *** I did not discuss what I was willing to do other than get the vehicle back and repair the oil coming from between the engine and transmission on Saturday Aug I did not have any phone calls or other contact from *** *** or *** *** until the morning of Saturday 22cd*** Sshowed up around 11:00am said he was here to pay for *** vehicle and that He believed there was no further concern with the oil leak because he did not see any oil dripping and *** * could not afford to have the 2nd leak repaired. The vehicle was not brought back to complete the repairs , or the opportunity to show the customer and owner of the vehicle *** *** what needed to be done to repair all the oil leaks and to discuss what the charge would actually be to complete all repairsI would welcome the opportunity to discuss this with *** *** and explain what needs to be done and why, so she has a full understanding about this concern with her vehicle. Attachment picture shows the mark in oil pan gasket where oil was leaking past( Pen points to mark on gasket)I did not have an opportunity to show this to customer at the time she took her vehicleI did try to contact *** by phone on Sunday the 23rd but only got voice mail
