Simon's Jewellery (Northgate Mall) Reviews (1)

Purchase stated refund if returned within 10 days. Simon's charged me 5% for refunding the purchase that I had made on my VISA.On November 6, 2013, I purchased a diamond bracelet on behalf of my father. I made it clear to the clerk that I was buying the item for my parents 60th wedding anniversary and that my father was too handicapped to purchase the bracelet himself. I inquired as to their return policies in case it was not the type of bracelet that my mother wanted. She stated the policies, which were clearly identified on the bill of sale. On Nov. 11, I returned the bracelet as it was not what my mother wanted. The owner of the store advised that if the item was refunded to my VISA, he would charge me 5%. As an alternative, he offered to refund the item to my debit card. [redacted] To do so would be very inconvenient for me, so I allowed him to deduct the $68.00 and refund my VISA by the remainder.I made it very clear that I did not think this was an acceptable practice, and was not stated on the policy. [redacted]Desired SettlementI wold like the business to refund the full amount, and [redacted] for the business not advising me that although the policy states refund within 10 days, [redacted]Business Response Hello Gail, I believe it is important that we fully understand the situation here and I wish to do my best to explain the situation to you. As with many businesses when you return an item there are many costs associated with the refund behind the scenes that customers may not be aware of, and as a result a 're-stocking' fee is charged on items refunded. This is common business practice. The re-stocking fee is not for profit but more so to cover costs associated with the steps required to take item back and have it placed on the floor for sale.In this situation the $68 charged is exactly what I have described above as a re-stocking fee. If the costs to complete a refund are minimal, out of goodwill to our customers we will absorb the costs and pass the benefit onto the customer as what happened with the partial refund completed on your debit card. Unfortunately on November 6, 2013 we could not process the entire refund onto your debit card due to your card's limitations and provided you with further options, however due to your inconvenience you agreed to have the fee charged. We have facilitated your request and done so to accommodate your convenience. To reiterate and summarize all the points mentioned above, you have been charged a re-stocking fee of $68, a fee of which you accepted and acknowledged. In other words you were completely aware of this policy and agreed to it as mentioned in your first complaint through Revdex.com Case #1026759. Despite you hearing, comprehending and ultimately agreeing to this policy I am not sure why you still claim you were unaware of this. This is great why we have Revdex.com to give us a further chance to communicate and understand the situation.I decided to invest time into this matter to ensure I have my facts straight to better explain this to you. The past week I have been in contact with [redacted], the payment processor we use regarding costs associated with VISA transactions. I explained the situation and asked him directly if for a refund our store can charge a fee to the customer to complete a refund. His exact response was "If you do a transaction and charge a percentage fee, [redacted] will not agree or disagree with that. No one can tell you what you cannot or cannot do, from [redacted] at least. If customer agrees then customer pays." There are no rules outlined regarding refunds. Out of customer relations [redacted] has agreed provide us with a credit for a portion of the cost associated with this transaction. As a result since [redacted] has given us a one-time partial credit, I have decided to, out of respect for Revdex.com, absorb the remaining costs incurred and provide you with the $68. The only condition we have is that you provide, through Revdex.com, a valid mailing address for us to send you a cheque via post. I believe this is the best method to get you the $68.
