Simpkin C. Tom Inc. Reviews (2)
I have had the pleasure of using C. Tom Simpkin, Inc. to maintain/repair my air conditioner on an annual basis since May 2009. My most recent experience being April 12, 2013. Staff have always been courteous and professional. Services have been explained thoroughly with all questions answered to my understanding. Prices have increased with the years as expected and not unreasonably. I am very pleased with this company.
I have a friend in the air conditioning business that lives too far away to come service my unit.
To make a long story short, On June 29, 2013 Tom from C. Tom Simpkin, Inc., came to repair my air conditioner.
I was quoted that it needed an external fan motor and the total cost would be $880.00 (I was told that the motor cost alone was "over" $500.00)
($80.00 to show up plus $800.00 to install a motor that would require less than 1 hour labor to replace).
I copied the make; "GENTEQ", model #; "HC39GR234" from the label of the motor.
My air conditioner repair friend called the same local parts supplier that Simpkin uses. (Seigler Wholesale).
The motor at their cost was $178.49 (with a retail list price of $354.00)
That's a $702.00 markup to come and do an under one hour job. (Even if they charged me list price for the motor, the labor alone would still be $526.00 "PLUS THE PROFIT THEY WOULD MAKE ON THE MOTOR".
I am a senior on a partially fixed income, I know very well how some will try to take advantage when they know that we seniors may not be as sharp as we used to be.
Should there be any doubt as to what I say, I have their quote on their bill head and motor price documantation to verify that the above is true and correct.
