Review: My husband and I contacted [redacted] of Simple Elegance in March 2014 to redesign our backyard. Our main focus was to create shade with a concrete pad & pergola surrounded by drought-resistant plants & a small patch of grass. [redacted] claimed that he would be our point of contact throughout the completion of the project. However as soon as problems began, of which there were many, [redacted] made it very clear that he was only our designer & not responsible for problems during the renovation. Working with [redacted], there was a total lack of communication. First of all, [redacted] was almost never on time to meetings. More often than not, we would have to call him to see if he was still coming to our meeting. Secondly, it was a nightmare trying to get in touch with him to get updates on the progress of our backyard. He initially told us that the remodel would take weeks to complete but that timeline quickly expanded into months. Stretches of 5-7 days would pass where we were unable to get a hold of him via phone, text, or email. We left countless phone messages and emails that went unanswered. Finally, due to this lack of communication, he purchased different lights and plants than had been discussed in the plans without consulting with us. [redacted] was never on site to oversee the work. Due to this, much of the irrigation that was put in by an unlicensed contractor had to be torn out & redone due to a number of very large leaks. A large crack developed in a part of the concrete pathway within 1 week of the pour. The concrete pad, which was poured in JUNE, was so poorly completed that when [redacted] finally came out to look at it in AUGUST, he insisted that it be demolished & re-poured. The demolition took more than 2 weeks & the re-pour never occurred. The attached photo is the demolished 12' x 12' concrete. My husband made phone calls to [redacted] every day for the 1st half of November. By mid-November, it was apparent that [redacted] had no intention of completing our backyard renovation and was actively avoiding any attempts to contact him.Desired Settlement: $1900 -- the estimated cost to re-pour the concrete slab that was poorly completed and demolished by a worker on behalf of Simple Elegance at the request of [redacted] of Simple Elegance.
