I have had multiple interactions with this school and they have all been breathtakingly unprofessional. I will narrow down my comments to reflect their admissions department. To preface this review, I will say that Simpson is on probation with the credentialing board, as they are not getting the amount of students that they need to stay credentialed. Just keep that in the back of your mind, that if you start going here, they may not be credentialed when it comes time for you to graduate.
I had intentions of applying to their nursing program. I was first put in contact with Molly (in admissions). She quickly put me off to Kristina Bambino. I am not a 20 year old with a handful of credits. I am a 36 year old, military veteran that has attended 6 colleges and I have well over 100 credits. I was dragged along for 2 months, with Kristina making me think that I would be able to apply to the nursing program. She encouraged me to sign up for Bible classes that I would need before I could be accepted. After using $2000 (from my GI Bill) for said Bible classes, she then called me giggling, and told me their was a "big fat bummer" and that my overall GPA wasn't quite high enough. She "advised" that I should retake elective classes that I took 20 years ago, and see if I could get a better grade in them, and that "maybe you should try Shasta College instead". This school is hiring their students and placing them in counselor/advising roles when I don't think they are mature enough or qualified for them. They say they are veteran friendly but they are not, but they are Bethel friendly! There are many Bethel parishioners that work their and attend their school. I will never be applying here or trying to attend this school again, and I would encourage others to seek other scholastic options.

My name is [redacted]. My case number is [redacted]. I would like to inform you that Simpson University and I have come to an amicable resolution, so therefore I wouldlike to withdraw my complaint. Attached is a letter detailing this resolution. Mr. [redacted] has requested a mailed letter stating that due to this resolution, SimpsonUniversity is now back in good standing with the Northeast California Revdex.com. Could you please send a letter to the address attached in the email? Thank you for all your help in this matter! I am glad we have resolved this matter amicably!

Review: It is with great regret that I have to write you this letter. After trying to arrive at a diplomatic solution with Simpson University, I feel that as though I am out of options. I hope that you can be of some assistance or at least point me in the right direction.

This journey began back in 2010 when Simpson University in Redding California first approached me about doing an online MA in Education. Their initial plan was to fly instructors over to South Korea to teach with most of the work online. As a teacher who works full time this was an excellent opportunity for me to advance my career while continuing to work full time. The option of the program being online and having face-to-face interaction was the selling point for me over other online programs I had been considering.

On November 20th, 2010 I was accepted into the Masters of Education program at Simpson University, an online course with face-to-face instruction on the weekends. Now this is where things get complicated. I have a 3-year BA from a recognized Canadian university ([redacted]). I was very honest with them and they told me it would not be a problem that, as they put it, “A BA is a BA.” Well, as they say, life happens and although I was accepted into the program, I decided to postpone my education in order to get married.

Two years pass and one wedding later, I see an advertisement that Simpson University is now offering an online Teaching Credential with face-to-face instruction similar to the MA program in which I was accepted two years previously. Since I was married and still teaching, I decided that this was the perfect opportunity for me. I was officially enrolled into the Fall Semester of the Teaching Credential on September 4th, 2012 and for the next 18 months everything was splendid for the most part. I paid my tuition on time and in return they provided instruction (although not face-to-face as much as they advertised).

In February of 2014, I was finishing my last semester before starting my student teaching that was scheduled to begin in the fall of 2014. However, we ran into a snag. The government of California now required international students to have a tax number in order to receive their Teaching Credential. Simpson assured me this wouldn’t be a program and wrote a template for me to follow. However, after a huge delay, I received a rejection letter in May. I emailed Simpson University immediately informing them, as I was about to take my CSET test, which would ensure my student teaching.

Now, this is where things start to unravel. I receive an email from Dr. [redacted] stating that they can no longer be enrolled in the Teaching Credential program because I only have a 3-year BA. You can imagine my anger, shock and surprise. As you can see with the attached emails, they accepted me into the program knowing that I had a 3-year BA and I was assured that it wouldn’t be a problem. So, two years later, over 12,000USD in tuition paid and I have nothing to show for my hard work. I feel that the negligence of their admissions and education department has cost me over 12,000USD in tuition alone and that is not including books, transportation, etc. For two years, everything was in order and with one month remaining before my student teaching and then suddenly I’m told I never qualified in the first place? It’s not right.

I’ve tried repeatedly to transfer the credits, only to be told they are not valid or recognized. Simpson University’s solution is to have my family and I move to Redding California to complete the MA and then finish my BA in something I have no interest in (Organizational Management) and then finally start my student teaching in California. All this would be completed by 2017. The whole reason I choose Simpson was because it was an online program with face-to-face instruction, so I could work and go to school. So, even after this, I still want to get something out of my work. I ask if I could please at least finish the MA in Education online. They rejected that notion as well and told me to transfer my credits to Canada. Unfortunately, Canada does not accept these credits.

I feel as though I am being hung out to dry. I have repeatedly tried to contact them and their admissions office to discuss this matter and have been met with silence. These credits are basically useless to me and since it is not feasible for my family and I to pack up and move to California, I feel that Simpson needs to at least refund my tuition. The bottom line is that their negligence has cost me two years of my life and over 12,000USD in tuition. Obviously, I would have never chosen them to continue my education had I known that I would have had to move to California. Again, the whole reason I chose Simpson was because they were flexible and allowed me to pursue my certification online with face-to-face instruction in Seoul on weekends. In my opinion what they are doing is just wrong and I have literally not received any help from them since our last contact in June of 2014.

Desired Settlement: I have both the receipts and the credits to prove to you as well as emails from Dr. [redacted] admitting their mistake. Also, I have the rejections from Canadian universities in regards to transferring my credits. I’m sorry this has taken so long to get to contact you, this really is a last resort as I desperately tried to find a university to accept my credits for the spring of 2015. I hope you can help and please feel free to contact me at [redacted] or [redacted]. I hope we can settle this matter accordingly.

Sincerely
