Identified a leak but failed to visually find it. Wanted us to buy new unit this one was not reparable.Called Sinclair H/AC to get a price quote on replacing both of my units due to age and one unit was out of commission. I instructed them to find the problem with the upper unit (1 1/2 ton [redacted] and please give the price quote. As the gentleman arrived he started his inspection. He did not bring a ladder and had my WIFE get ours and made her carry it. Very inappropriate! As he conducted a pressure test he informed my wife we had a leak and that it was not repairable because the leak rate was to bad. So we needed a new unit. Due to the fact that he was there to give us a price quote as well, he failed to identify where the exact leak was coming from. That is poor maintenance practices. The maintenance man never went into the attic to look at the air handler after the system was under a pressure or the compressor to find the leak, instead he sat down under a pine tree in front of the house for five minutes until all the pressure had leaked out. So I was charged for the service call but never really got any service. All he said is that we had a leak. I knew that already, the unit was blowing out hot air. So I called in another service company and they found the leak outside in the compressor coil and it was fixed within an hour, pressure tested, charged with refrigerant and put back on service. After a thorough inspection was completed again I do not need to have any of the units replaced. After looking back on the situation, it seems like Sinclair H&AC just wanted to make a sell instead of a full time customer. I will never recommend them to anyone and will always make people wary of this business tactic.Desired SettlementDue to the poor service call, I would like to think that they would give my wife an apology for having her carry the ladder up and down a two story house (17 steps) from the detached garage, and send me a refund check ($85) for their improper troubleshooting. If they would have done the job correctly they still would have made over $700 dollars. Business Response We are sorry customer was not happy. We have issued a refund of $85.00.Consumer Response Would like to follow up on the response of the company. Just recieved my $85.00 check in the mail. Would like to let them know that I have considered this a one time incident and not a repeated ethical performance of craftsmanship. If I need Heatig and AC work to be conducted in the future I will consider them again for service but will be present to ask the proper questions and not my wife due to my experience. Because of their actions refering to this complaint I consider them a reputable establishment. I would recommend them to anyone in need of their service.
