Singer Specs Reviews (2)

Review: My husband purchased glasses from Sterling Optical on 12/3/12 for $349.99. Pickup of glasses were probably 2 weeks out minimum. Probably in Jan 2013 the right lens popped out. Sterling Optical fixed by putting lens back into frame. This continues to happen on a monthly basis. Sterling Optical did not tell my husband anything about the lens being a problem or defective - just that "they are fixed". I got involved on 12/31/13 when lens popped out right before being seated for dinner. I ran up to Sterling Optical to get fixed. Told to come back next day to have [redacted] check them. Fixed and sent on my way. Told no records are kept on number of times my husband returned. I have asked for them to be replaced but have been told numerous times "out of warranty". When I took them to be fixed on 1/26/14 I found out Sterling Optical merged with Singer Spec. Two employees at Singer Spec have told me lens possibly cut too small or the curvature of lens may be a problem. My complaint is that Sterling Optical was negligible in being my husband's eye care provider. How can a different eye care provider see these problems but Sterling Optical doesn't say anything?I have requested the lens be replace but been denied. Listed below is a summary of repairs in just a 2 month period. These glasses are "lemons" (warranty void) and Sterling Optical negligible as an eye care provider.1/26/14 Gap between lens and frame. [redacted] at Singer Spec states lens cut too small?1/28/14 Lens pops out driving after a bump, 1/31 Singer Spec fixes.2/3/14 Lens pops out, 2/4/14 Singer Spec fixes and Steve, mgr/tech, says he doesn't think it will stay in.2/5/14 Lens falls out reading box, 2/6/14 Singer Spec fixes.2/17/14 Lens falls out and Singer Spec fixes.Desired Settlement: Refund cost of glasses $349.99 so I can go somewhere else.

Response:

Review: Over the past 7 weeks, I've been to Singer Specs numerous times because I'm unable to see clearly with the lenses being provided. I've had 3 eye exams by 2 different doctors. Each time, the prescription given to me was different than the time before. After the first eye exam, I initially bought and paid for Silhouette rimless glasses with an anti-reflective coating. I was also told I should get the edges polished because (I'm paraphrasing here) "rimless glasses won't look nice if the edges aren't polished". The first lenses were blurry when looking at lighted signs and there was this rainbow effect that would cast across the lenses when light would hit them a certain way. Told them that, and they scheduled another exam. Second eye exam (different eye doctor than the first), said my prescription was different than what was originally prescribed, and ordered new polished lenses. When they came in, same deal. Blurry when looking at the lighted signs and this rainbow effect was still present. So they scheduled a third eye exam - this time with the eye doctor from the initial visit. This eye doctor changed the script again. At this time, it was also determined that the polished edges may be the cause of the "rainbow" effect, and said we would should try no polish and framed glasses. I reluctantly picked new frames (that I was told could be adjusted to fit). New frames and lenses came in. Lens were once again polished, and was told these particular frames could only be adjusted inward not down around my ears. Frames didn't sit well on my face and rainbow effect remained, but lenses were not blurry. Called and talked to the manager and told him the entire story, and that after numerous trips to the store, lenses were still incorrect, and I wanted my money back. He said "that's not an option". After several phone conversations, he said "as a last ditch effort", they would pay for new lenses and cut them themselves. No rainbow effect with new lenses, but I'm still unable to clearly see lighted numbers.Desired Settlement: After the 3rd set of lens, I requested a refund. [redacted] (manager) said that was not an option (said "no refunds" was stated on my receipt - it's not). He provided a # to their corporate office which was not a customer service line, but a company directory - was not able to speak to anyone. After several more calls, he said that Singer would pay for the best lenses they could get and cut them themselves in their store. So they spent money on new lenses instead of just giving my money back.
