Unfortunately (based on pictures provided) this customers unit is experiencing some "galvanic corrosion" this is caused by two different metals that are in contact each other over a period of time. There are factors that can accelerate this condition, the main one being moisture mixed with road salts. As I am sure you are aware the winters in Alberta can be harsh, take last winter for exampleWith harsh winter weather conditions roads, historically in the Alberta area, has used a chemical de-icing agent called Magnesium chlorideMagnesium chloride is a salt based compound that is excellent for ice control and that is why it used to de-ice the roads Unfortunately, this option can be quite corrosive to trailer components, particularly to the aluminum and stainless trims that are often found on today’s trailers It is a best practice to wash your trailer as often as possible in the winter months to keep the salt based components from resting on these surfaces and causing damages that are not covered under warrantyMirage would be happy to install "like" (aluminum tread plate) material to slow the process provided the unit it brought to the Nampa,IDfacility at N/C to the customerWe would also be happy to send material to customer at n/c provided he installs

salts. As I am sure you are aware the winters in Alberta can be harsh, take last winter for example. With harsh winter weather conditions roads, historically in the Alberta area, has used a chemical de-icing agent called Magnesium chloride. Magnesium chloride is a salt based compound that is excellent for ice control and that is why it used to de-ice the roads.  Unfortunately, this option can be quite corrosive to trailer components,  particularly to the aluminum and stainless trims that are often found on today’s trailers It is a best practice to wash your trailer as often as possible in the winter months to keep the salt based components from resting on these surfaces and causing damages that are not covered under warranty. Mirage would be happy to install "like" (aluminum tread plate) material to slow the process provided the unit it brought to the Nampa,ID. facility at N/C to the customer. We would also be happy to send material to customer at n/c provided he installs.
