Skaggs R V Country Reviews (3)

Review: We purchased a 2006 travel trailer from Skaggs RV in the summer of 2014. During the inspection at purchase we found three things to be in non working order. The gray water valve was leaking, one scissor jack was broken and it was missing the tv tuner for the antenna. We puchased the RV with hand written notes on the sales contract that these items would be fixed at no charge to us. We scheduled an appointment in September to have the items repaired. When we dropped the trailer off we told the customer service personnel in the service department that we also have a water leak that we would like to have looked at. Once we proved to them that we had the sales contract with the repairs on it e asked is it possible to get a "Free Estimate" on the water leak, that is unrelated to the sales repairs. We made it very clear that we do not want the additional repairs done until we have the estimate. Skaggs RV went ahead and repaired the water leak without our consent. Once confronted about it the lady said all she had in the system was to fix the water leak. We made it very clear that we did not want the repairs done and we only mentioned it if they could assure us that this would be a "Free Estimate". My wife asked the lady at Skaggs RV how this is possible? How can we tell you, face to face, with 2 skaggs RV personnel present, to not make the repairs until we are notified and then over a month later we are told "This is what you owe and we will place a lock on the vehicle until we are paid". That is a direct quote. They also tried to charge us for the sales inspection repairs too but after explaining for probably the 6th or 7th time that this was in the sales contract they adjusted the bill. Everyone I have spoken to in the area have told me "do not go to Skaggs" well, it was too late. I had already bought a trailer from them. We were not aware of their reputation and how they treat the military community. We had no agreement to have the repairs done. We only asked to have them look at it, since other repairs were being done, and let us know how much it will cost so we can make a decision. All that said, this could have been resolved without calling my wife a liar and threatening to put a lock on the vehicle. If the rep would have said they misunderstood and made the repairs it would be different but these people had the audacity to tell us that we were lying and it's a verbal agreement and legal binding??? What verbal agreement?? We gave SPECIFIC instructions. My wife even told them face to face, "if the estimate isnt free, we do not want it looked at". Amazing. I know now that this organization has issues. I can tow my trailer to Louisville to find military friendly service in the future but we dont think this is fair treatment and are unsure the motivation of the dealer. I am very surprised to not find bad reviews on your website. Every military RV owner I have spoken with has told me "whatever you do, do not take your trailer to skaggs" They owed us a few repairs so I had no choice.Desired Settlement: We did not aske for the repairs. We feel that they made a mistake. They have billed us $251.00 for the repairs and threataned to put a lock on our vehicle so we feel it only fair that we are refunded the full $251.00 for repairs we did not ask for.

Response:

In regards to the complaint filed by [redacted], it is our utmost concern to make sure we have happy and satisfied customers, especially our military members. We have been in business in this area for over 31 years and continue to grow based on the excellent customer service we provide.

In reviewing this complaint with the employees involved I am finding all the promised repair items listed at the time of sale was repaired at no cost to the customer as promised. The [redacted]s brought their unit in with a water leak they said was due to a water pressure surge to 110 psi while they had it out. These water systems are designed to work on 35psi max and we give each customer a water regulator to prevent this from happening.

Mr. [redacted] asked our service department to repair the leak but did not ask for an estimate. The repair including parts is only thing they owe us for and Mr. [redacted] said to our service writer the amount was fine and he was glad it was repaired.

On Wednesday October 29, 2014 Mrs. [redacted] called our service department using extremely vulgar language to both our service writer and a sales lady who was trying to work with her to resolve the problem. She was screaming to the ladies on the phone they were f---ing liars and our employees were not able to calm her down to get any issue resolved.

A few minutes later Mr. [redacted] called back and said to not winterize the unit and he would be in to pickup the camper and pay his bill. He did say his wife was making him file a complaint to the Revdex.com "to settle her down".

I feel we became involved in the middle of a domestic issue not a service issue.

I am happy to meet with Mr. [redacted] to discuss any questions he may have.

Sincerely

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Regards,

Bottom line up front; The clerks made a simple mistake that could have been handled very easily. My wife expressly asked for an estimate only on the water leak. She was given the response of no problem, once we look at it we will call before we make repairs. We understand that mistakes are made and things arent written down when they should be. This could have been easily taken care of by saying "there was a mixup somehow and the repairs were made without first giving an estimate" No problem. I pay and everyone is happy. The problem is expressing that my wife is somehow lying to you. What would be the motivation for this? Do you think we expect you to repair something and not be paid for it? Of course not. When mistakes are made and you still say you were told to fix it makes no sense. Why would we even bring this up if we told you to fix it? The business statement says that "Mr. [redacted] asked our service department to repair the leak but did not ask for an estimate." I did not even speak to anyone when the trailer was dropped off. In fact, I never got out of the car. It is also very puzzling that the business refers to a domestic issue. When your employess refuse to admit a simple mistake was made and then threaten putting a lock on the trailer due to a verbal contract simply enfuriated my wife and rightfully so.

There are several false statements in the business response. This is very telling of this organization and confirms the reputation of the business. I did call and say this and this only, " do not winterize the camper, as a matter of fact do not touch it anymore. I will be making a Revdex.com complaint against your business and I will come in and pay the bill, you can let your bosses know or you can forget about it after we hang up like you have done all along". At no time did I say "wife was making him file a complaint to the Revdex.com "to settle her down". To get this creative in story telling shows much deeper integrity issues. I will continue to stand behind the truth and will not back down. You can not treat customers this way. When mistakes are made, OWN THEM and noone will be called a liar and everythitng works out. We thought about paying the bill and letting it go. We will find another repair place in Louisville but after reading the response from the business I feel that I have no choice but to make it my personal mission to tell my story on any and all review, online trader, RV, Forum and website that exists. Fair is fair and people should know. I vow to stick to facts and facts only about my entire experience with Skaggs RV. Thank you Revdex.com for viewing this complaint. If it were not for you cunsumers would have nothing to combat vulture business practices that are on display with Skaggs RV.

Review: We purchased our new Chaparral camper in July of 2013 from Skaggs RV. We camped about 4 times in the camper in 2013. In April of 2014 we went camping in the camper for the first time of 2014. Our outside refrigerator did not work. We called Skaggs on Saturday, April 26th while we were camping and were told to call back on Monday, April the 28th because the man that takes care of that was out. My husband called back on Monday and was told to bring the rerigerator up there and they would check it and that it was under warranty and they would take care of it. He took the refrigerator up there the following Friday. They checked it and told him it was a default and they would file the warranty claim and replace it. They told him they would call us and soon as they got confirmation from the warranty claim and let us know when to expect it. We called them on the 21st of May to see if they had heard anything. We were told that they did not know anything yet. We called back around the first of June and was told the man that took care of that was on vacaction and they weren't sure what happened. I called back on July 12, 2014 and spoke with a salesman who told me the service department was closed. I explained the entire situation and he told me he would let Mr. Skaggs himself know what was going on and that see if he could find out anything. Mr Skaggs called me the following week and informed me that he had checked on it and that it was ordered and should soon be here. He was very nice and sincere about the way we had not received any promised call backs from his service and parts department. We called a couple weeks later and were told that the refrigerator was there. We drove the 100 miles up there and picked it up. We brought it home took it out of the box and it was dented and scratched up. I called back to Skaggs and spoke with [redacted] who is over that department. He apologized and told us that they should have taken it out of the box and checked it before they sent it with us. He told us he would order us a new one and get this taken care of as soon as possible. He called my husband the following week and again apologized and said he would bring it to our house and put it in himself--beacuse he wanted to make this right. My husband told him that he could meet him half way or come and pick it up. It is now December 30, 2014 and I called Skaggs Rv today and was told [redacted] was out till Monday and the man on the phone let me know they were charged 380.00 for that last refrigerator (which we know was under warranty from the company) and he wasn't sure what happened about the refrigerator. The gentlemen I spoke with today was rude and also let me know he could buy those refrigerators anytime for 100 and something dollars. We have drove 3 times the 100 miles to Skaggs and after several phone calls still feel like we have accomplished nothing!! We are very disappointed in Skaggs service. We paid close to $40,000.00 for a camper and have given up on Skaggs. I just hope we have no major issues with our camper because we cannot rely on Skaggs. We have already been out over $100.00 in diesel for basically nothing.Desired Settlement: First I would like a sincere apology from the service department. I would really like to have a new outside refrigerator brought and put in my camper by Skaggs--which was what we were told in July would happen--and we have already been out over $100.00 in diesel on our end --but to be honest my husband has told me to give it up because it is now December and we have learned a lesson from this--never buy or recommend Skaggs to anyone. I called Skaggs today and was treated rude by the gentleman on the phone so I don't really expect an apology or my refrigerator. I also hope that the Revdex.com does provide a copy of this to the [redacted] so that they can know how one of dealers treat their customers--maybe then Skaggs RV will actually help out there customers.

Response:

Thank you for notifing me of the customer concern. We have been in business over 30 years in this community and are always concerned about our customers satisfaction.

I have researched the complaint from [redacted], and I find there seems to be a lack of communication internally about the status of the referigerator for the [redacted]s. We do have another referigerator at our dealership to exchange with the [redacted]s. It was my understanding from our staff that the [redacted]s referigerator was functioning fine but had some light cosmetic scratches on the side and that they would use it until the end of camping season and we would exchange at that time. We will be happy to exchange the referigerators with them at any time.

If there is anything else I can do to help in this matter, they are welcome to contact me.

Sincerely

Review: We bought a 2011 Chaparral Lite fifth wheel camper from Skaggs RV on July 22, 2014. The camper was there on consignment. It has been 3 and 1/2 months and the previous lien has not been paid off. We have receivedl no title, registration, or tags. The loan company that financed it for me tells me they have not received anything on it from Skaggs RV either. I have called Skaggs RV numerous times and I keep getting the run around from them saying that the other loan company is slow releasing it. I have spoken to several people at Skaggs RV, including the owner. Phone calls have not been returned. I have talked to the other loan company and they said a check would only take 10 days to clear and then it would be released. This tells me that they have not paid it off at all with the money they got from the loan company I used. I have been extremely patient with Skaggs RV, but my patience is wearing very thin.Desired Settlement: I have honored the terms of the purchase contract in good faith. I want Skaggs RV to honor their end by sending me the title, registration and paying the previous lien off for the 2011 Chaparral Lite that I purchased. If I do not receive settlement via the Revdex.com, I will seek legal assistance.

Response:

I have reviewed the complaint from Mr [redacted] and I find that we in fact have a paid receipt and a lein release in file however, we are waiting on a lost title to come in which should be in the next few days. As soon as we receive the duplicate title we will complete the transaction as agreed. I would be happy to talk to the customer if they have any other questions. Our focus is to complete this customer as quickly as possible and maintain a positive customer relationship.

Sincerely,

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me. I will wait for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved.

Regards,

I hope this is not another run around. The day I filed the complaint I checked with the department of transportation and they said that there is still a lean showing on the RV. If they have got a release since then, the problem is solved . I will beleave it when I have the title, tags and registration in my hands.

Thanks for all your help
