This is a review of the new roof installation done on my home by SkyWalker Roofing on March 9, 2016. Let me preface this review by stating that I was (and am) a 63 year old very picky homeowner who was looking for a roofing system (not just a new roof) that would last me the rest of my life barring any unforeseen circumstances. As such, I insisted on being home when the work was done. Also, because I have an almost flat roof over the back porch/breakfast nook, I insisted on having at least 3 days of warm weather for installation. I wanted the flat portion of my roof to have time to "cure" well after installation before any rain or cold weather set in. I am happy to report that they were willing to work with me on this - though I did have to remind them of these 2 requirements numerous times.
The owner, Luke W[redacted], came out to the house and made a very professional presentation on his tablet showing me exactly what I could expect at each step of the process - from tearing the old roof off to installation of the new roofing system to clean-up. He was the only roofer to do so. Many other roofers came out and gave me quotes but none walked me through the process like he did. That and the other reviews I found online for SkyWalker Roofing convinced me the go with them. They were actually one of the higher bids I received but I firmly believe it is better to pay more for quality workmanship and materials and have something that will hopefully last rather than just go with a cheaper price.
On to the installation. The crew arrived at 6:45 AM on March 9. They immediately went to work and had the old roof torn off in short order. They were very efficient and hard working and hand carried the shingles to the dump truck - just as promised. Throughout the whole process, the foreman and owner (Luke W[redacted]) took the time to answer any and all questions. They were gracious and did not seem to mind me hovering. I was even up on the roof about 4 times inspecting the work as it progressed (told you I was picky). The installation of the system included a lot of Ice and Water Shield, an electric vent with humidistat, edge vents around entire roof, a special waterproof membrane on the flat portion of the roof and zinc strips at appropriate places on the roof to prevent mold growth.
The entire installation process went pretty smoothly with only a few minor glitches which were immediately corrected when pointed out to either the foreman or owner. They replaced a lot of rotted wood and closed up the holes from the wind turbines I had them permanently remove. The crew worked hard and relentlessly and received appropriate supervision from the owner and foreman. Clean-up was very thorough - when they left, you couldn't even tell they had been there except for the new roof. They even cleaned the outside of my 2 chimneys and put a waterproof coating on top of each to prevent further water damage.
The office people were excellent and easy to talk with and work with. They were instrumental in helping me line up credit to pay a portion of the cost of the new roof.
I highly recommend SkyWalker Roofing to anyone who is looking for quality work. On a scale of 1-10, I give them an 8.5. I never give anybody a 10 as I feel there is always room for improvement. After several hard rains where the roof doesn't leak (and I am sure it won't) I would not hesitate to bump the 8.5 up to a 9.
