Review: Have Internet Coupon $28.75 for Smog Check. I was asked what year vehicle and I said 1995. I was told the price was higher for 1996 and older.

I initially called to ask the price of the certificate and was told $8.25. When I mentioned the online coupon I was asked the year of vehicle. When I said 1995, I was told that the coupon price did not apply to vehicles 1996 and older. I stated that this is not mentioned on the website or coupon and the response was, "We haven't updated our website yet" and that the cost for the 1996 and older cars is $49.99.

Then he asked, where do you live. I said Chico. He didn't respond further and I explained that I thought that it would be worth the drive up the hill for the good coupon price of $28.75 for the smog.

Then I was researching further and saw that there are a lot of "Bait and Switch" advertisements online. So I called and said that as a courtesy, they might want to change their website right away because the coupon could be perceived as "Bait and Switch" and someone might report them, and that it wasn't my intent to do so but rather to give them an opportunity to make the correction.

The man on the phone said that the website said that the prices may vary and that he "didn't intend to change the website" and then he hung up on me without even giving me an opportunity to reply. This statement followed his previous claim that there was an error on the website.

PS I have *.pdf copies of what appeared on their website today on 6/6/2013. Desired Settlement: Correction of the website to protect consumers and a written apology for rudeness when I was truly only trying to be helpful.

To Whom It May Concern:

I did receive a letter from "Skyway Auto Tune" at 758 Fir Street Paradise CA XXXXX on Sat. June 29, 2013.

The letter was typed and not hand signed and said the following:

"Dear [redacted],

I will change my website this weekend. I'm sorry for hanging up on you.

It is my suspicion that this advertising issue may not be resolved via mediation from the Revdex.com resolution center for the following reasons:

1- By virtue of the impersonal cool response from the business owner, it is clear that he did not believe the fact that I gave him the benefit of the doubt in trusting that he did not intend to participate in an illegal "Bait and Switch" advertising promotion.

2- Additionally, because it is Monday, July 1, 2013 (the weekend is past) and at the time of my writing this response no change has been made to the website:

I would like to thank the Revdex.com for it's attempt to communicate with this business regarding my advertising complaint and understand that you can not take punitive action. Really, it is sad that a business owner would permit pride to come before integrity. The website of this business is very impressive and when I first called, the owner seemed friendly and eager to help. However, when he asked me the year of my vehicle and I responded with 1995, as I said in my earlier correspondence, he responded that the smog coupon was only for 1996 vehicles and newer. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that this business owner claimed ignorance when I first mentioned that the coupon did not specify this restriction. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that this business owner initially said that there was an error on the website that he was in the process of having corrected and I still can't wrap my head around the fact that when I called back to let him know that the website coupon had not been changed he said that he had no intention of making the correction and hung up.

This business owner has everything going for him. I can't help but wonder: Why would he compromise his integrity?

Really, I contacted the Revdex.com in hopes that this business owner would see his error and realize that if he has a great business and offers a great service--it is his integrity in the end that will be what keeps customers coming back.

I do not need a response, but for this business owner's sake I pray that he will either:

1- take the coupon down from his website,

2- add the coupon restrictions on the coupon itself, or

3- honor the coupon without restrictions.

Any one of these three resolutions would substantiate the integrity of this business and I truly wish the best for them.

Having said all these things, I consider this matter closed and sincerely appreciate the assistance provided by the Revdex.com's resolution center.

The business owner left a phone message stating that the website was corrected. He may have added the vehicle age restriction to the coupon, I'm not sure.

I would like to close this claim as resolved and thank the business owner. I truly believe that the omission of the restriction of the vehicle age on the smog certificate was an unintentional oversight. I do not think there was criminal activity or dishonesty intended, as I said it was an honest oversight. Thanks again to the business owner.
