Slim's Driving School

Review: I had contracted Slims Driving School to give my daughter driving lessons for her learners permit, paid them in full and scheduled the lessons. After 1 session I was informed that my driving instructor had an emergency and could no longer give the lessons and the school did not have another instructor to provide the rest of the lessons and they would let me know when they could accomodate me. That was not acceptable and I found another driving school who could finish the process. Slims was supposed to send the permit to the new school as that is the process with the DMV. They were also supposed to refund me the rest of the money that we agreed upon since they could not live up to the terms of the agreement. They have not sent the permit or sent me the refund. My daughter can not get her permit now because they hold the original permit and they owe me $280.Desired Settlement: I want the permit and the refund so she can move on with her lessons.

This is a response to complaint ID# [redacted]2 submitted by Amy [redacted] on 6/11/14. Our instructor [redacted] took the student out for a successful first session on 5/27/14. Her next appointment was scheduled for the 5/29/14. On 5/28/ 14 [redacted] called the office notifying me she needed an emergency gall bladder surgery and was unable to work until further notice. As a courtesy I began to call all of [redacted]'s students, including Ms. [redacted], to inform them. I promised customers that I would follow up within the next day with options for rescheduling.

Upon receiving the news Ms. [redacted] demanded that I give her all rescheduled appointments at that moment or would cancel. Trying my best to accomdate, I offered to have all three rescheduled appointments within a week. I suggested an appointment with John on the following Saturday 6/7/14. We currently only have two full-time instructors on staff, so this emergnecy regretably caused a bump in the road. While things are back on course now, it took a little time and patience to reschedule students. I assured Ms. [redacted] I'd call her back 6/29/14 to reschedule the additional two appointments. This wasn't satisfactory for Ms. [redacted] so I reminded her that it was her option to choose another liscensed school and we would forward the permit to them. She called me back the next day requesting to forward the permit to First Time Driving School. On 6/2/14 I had given our office assistant the day's mail, including Ms. [redacted]'s refund check and permit. The assistant hadn't realized the mail had falled between the console and forgotten. Ms. [redacted] called on 6/4 to inquire about the refund and permit. We told her that they were both mailed a couple days before.

To our surprise, on 6/10/14 our assistant had found the letters stuck in the console of the car. On 6/ 12/14 we sent our instructor John to hand-deliver the refund check to Ms. [redacted]'s home and the permit in the post.
