During the initial estimate with [redacted] we spoke with him as well as his wife to discuss what they wanted done.  The work included an asphalt driveway with brick paver borders, walkways and a porch area with steps.  Upon my first survey of the driveway the subject of how we would be pitch it to allow water off the driveway came about.  The existing driveway was pitched to the right towards an old drainage system along the right side.  The driveway also had negative pitch to the street and the natural flow would be towards the garage which was at a lower level than the street.  In our initial field discussion it was made clear that water could not be pitched to street and instead we recommended installing a new drain.  The customer agreed that water could not possibly flow to the street however he also declined our recommendation for a drain.  Our recommendation for a drain was made multiple times.  Instead his request was that we pitch the driveway towards the left, the opposite of its original pitch, so that he could install a pop up drain himself on the left side on the lawn.  We recommended against this because his house was located on a main road and the flow of the street went to the right, fighting against a pitch to the left which would cause water to pool.  [redacted] did not listen to that recommendation.  With the situation we had to work with we pitched the driveway to the left the best we could based on the elevation of the garage slab.  He was not satisfied with the result.  We returned and readjusted the brick paver borders and the pitch according to his liking free of charge.  After this point he was satisfied and gave an okay to pave with asphalt.  He called us within the next week after completion of the project to tell us that he has puddling on the driveway.  SLR President Louis Labriola and I went that same day to have a look.  We flooded the driveway with the hose and let the water sit for an hour.  When we came back 90% of the water was off the driveway in just one hour.  In our contract it states to allow 24 hours for water to make its way off the driveway which is standard.  It also states in our contract the ponding on the driveway is out of our control if there is less than ¼ inch per foot of pitch which the customers driveway did not have.  This is why our recommendation of a drain was so important.  We did our absolute best to satisfy [redacted].Thank You.Mark D[redacted]Vice PresidentSLR Industries Inc.###-###-####

After a field meeting at the job site SLR Industries Inc. and our Customer, [redacted] agreed to Seal Coat the driveway in the spring of 2016 at no charge and reset any settled bricks. Both parties are happy with this agreement. Thank you, Louis L[redacted]

SLR Industries did my parents house, my brother's house, my sister's house and my house with brick pavers. Driveways, patios, walkways & stoops. We are all so happy with the professional craftsmanship on each job. The sales representatives were so friendly and courteous. The crew doing the rip and installation were meticulous and respectful.
I have recommended them to many friends and neighbors and they all thanked me for the referral of this great masonry company.

WE hired SLR Industries Inc. to install a driveway, stoop and walkway. The job came out really nice and the men were professionals and courteous. I would definitely recommend them.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

The driveway pitches to the right opposite from what we discussed and with no warning that the will be pitching the driveway to the right. There is so much water now that does not leave the driveway that it freezes and has become a safety issue. None of the direction given was was applied without asking to correct to the original request. The pavers at the garage slab were installed incorrectly and were fixed by SLR but only after showing the water would have ran into the garage with their initial setup. I asked numerous times for SLR to recheck the grade of the driveway and make sure it was going to be as requested which did not get relayed to labor onsite.

In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.
Sincerely,

As we detailed in our initial response we advised [redacted] multiple times to not only have us install a drain but also that the way he wanted to have the driveway pitched would not work.  After we did come back and readjust the pitch free of charge [redacted] did give the go ahead to pave.  We were very clear that we would advise a drain.  To the best of our ability we tried to complete the job according to what [redacted] wanted.  Like previously stated it is in our contract that the customer is to allow 24 hours to let water disperse from the driveway.  Water will flow off a driveway at different rates based off how limited pitch the driveway has which in the case of the customers property it is very little.  This is why our recommendation of a drain was so vitally important.  We always do the absolute best of our ability to advise our customers based on our professional opinion and work diligently with the customer to achieve a completed project that they wanted. Thank you. SLR Industries Inc.

Review: I had my driveway and sidewalk completely redone. The project was completed by December 2014 with a one year warranty. On January 2015 I noticed that my sidewalk cracked on both ends where it meets the driveways, and the paving stones that were installed as aprons on both end of my rap around driveway sunk in and other parts of apron lifted. The paver stones that were installed on the walkway through the entrance of my house also lifted with some parts sunken in. on February 2015, I called SLR Industries in regards to the issue but did not get a response. On or about March or April of 2015, I called again but was told that a repair crew has not been established as of yet and to give them some time. Sometime on July of 2015, I called and told them that i've called numerous times about the issue, but still no repair crew and that I will be put first on list for repairs. Mid October I called again and was told that they will get in touch with me in the next couple of days to set up a date. It is November **, 2015 and still no one has contacted me about the repairs that needs to be done.Desired Settlement: I want the company to repair all the issues. I'm no expert in driveways or paver stone installations but it is obvious that the pavers were not sealed. I want them to properly seal all pavers including all edges where pavers meet with sidewalk so the issue wont arise again. I also expect all work done as part of initial warranty that was issued upon completion.

Review: We contracted with SLR to install brick pavers from the front of the house around to the rear of the house, install a new asphalt driveway lined with pavers, install a new rear patio and two sets of stairways. During the installation, my husband questioned the "grading of the driveway" because the pitch was not the same as it had been before they ripped it up. He was told that the mason was very good and not to worry. Upon completion, we had a heavy rain and the driveway, side walkway flooded and the water seeped under the overhead garage door and into the garage. My husband put a level on the apron directly in front of the overhead garage door and found that the apron was "dead level" with no grading down to the street 80' away.

[redacted] and [redacted] from SLR came over and blamed it on "an unusually heavy rainfall" and asked us to wait to see if it happens again. Not more than two weeks later with a light rainfall, the garage flooded and SLR's solution was to dig a trench in front of the garage door to divert the water to the side. We felt the driveway needed to be regraded but they disagreed and asked us to give this a chance.

When the garage flooded again, they dug a deeper trench and put a 6" drain on the side of the garage. That seemed to help for a while but last week during a heavy rain, and again the garage flooded. This time [redacted] again blamed the "unusually heavy rain" and thinks we are lying when we tell him that we have been here since 1981 and have NEVER had the garage flood except for "hurricane Gloria". They will not fix the problem that they caused when the did not properly grade the driveway.

This job was started in June of 2012 and completed in August when we paid them over $15,000.Desired Settlement: SLR needs to correct the grade of the driveway so that the water drains AWAY from my garage like it had for the past 30 years. My driveway is at least 3 feet higher than the street and 80 feet long, there is no reason that the water should be pooling around my back steps or draining towards my garage. If they are not willing to fix it themselves then I can call someone in to fix it and send them the bill. I am not a mason but even I know that if you want something to drain away from the structure you cannot put a apron in front that is "dead level".
