This company has unfair and fraudulent business practices. First of all they do not properly train their representatives and supervisors. They also have no accountability for misinformation which is given by their representatives to the customer. We recently went through a loan modification with SLS and the entire process has been a nightmare. Our trial period ended in October 2016 and we signed new loan papers and sent off before the end of October deadline. We did not receive a statement for October because the new modified loan was in "underwriting". We received incorrect statements for November, December and January. We called on October 25th to verify payment and amount due for November and was told we had no payment until Dec 01,2016 and the reason we did not get a statement is because it was in "underwriting". We got a statement on November 27 that was very erroneous. We called and another representative said to ignore that statement and he gave us the amount due and said it was due December 1st. Then on December 17th I received a statement again for the incorrect amount (larger than before the modification) and it showed a payment due for November and December with $192 late fees for both. The amount that I had paid in December was put in a suspense account and applied to nothing. After complaining SLS finally corrected the amounts on Dec 23rd yet we still received a statement with an incorrect amount for January. The new adjusted payment due for November was changed to $5950, the bill for December was $5031, and the bill for January was $5087. I asked why three different payments and I was told it was due to escrow calibrations. Can a lender change your escrow amount every month without notice? By the way, the incorrect amount they were billing us each month was $6900. The reason we had to modify the loan in the first place is because our original payment of $4700 per month went up to $5800 due to changes in escrow calculations??? We applied for a loan modification to make it affordable and our payment went up to $6900 and on top of that we are told by two representatives on two separate occasions that we have no payment for November. This can't be legal! Don't we have the right to have accurate monthly statements, notification when a payment is being changed, and accurate information from the lending company representatives? This also seems unfair and not legal! Finally, we did not even have the accurate amounts on the account until December 23, 2016 which the company went back and updated the amounts for November and December. How can the consumer be expected to make payments when they don't even know how much to pay? Was I suppose to ask for the amortization schedule and calculate it myself? And yes, we did talk to a supervisor by the name of Jose id# [redacted] and he reviewed the phone calls for October 25th and November 27th and corroborated our story that both representatives assured us that we had no payment due until December 1st and furthermore they BOTH advised us to ignore inaccurate statements for November. You think that would of fixed it right? Nope! Like I said before, there is no accountability and fairness with this company. Jose said their was nothing he could do, but he did apologize that we were given false information by their representatives. Wow! I guess this is the big bad Dodd-Frank Act working to precision.
