Smart Energy Spray Foam, Inc Reviews (3)

the “owner” Rob is inconsiderate, overpriced and rude to potential clients. I would give a negative rating if I could. Do yourself a favor and go with a professional and don’t even give this company the time of day!

Don’t waste your time. Owner is unprofessional and rude. was quoted $1000 more than other companies. Don’t even bother calling

Review: My name is [redacted], a victim of Hurricane Sandy and a Bait and Switch tactic by Smart Foam Energy, Inc. I reside at [redacted]. I had to rebuild my whole house due to the impact of the storm and the damage that my home endured. When rebuilding came along, I chose Smart Energy Spray Foam, Inc to do the spray foam insulation. I spoke with [redacted], a salesperson many times and went over the process. [redacted] came out to my home to inspect what was needed. I then received a quote from [redacted]. I went through the quote, and contacted [redacted] back to negotiate pricing.

[redacted] then revised the quote and sent me a contract to review. After I went through the contract; I contacted [redacted] with some questions and concerns I had pertaining to the contract. [redacted] assured me that this new quote was everything that I wanted and that I needed to insulate my home. I then felt at ease after [redacted] had assured me this and knew that if he had inspected the home, had in-depth knowledge of the product and building codes that I was in good hands. Unfortunately, this was not the case.

When the insulators came to my home, it was brought to my attention by the workers and my contractor that the insulation that we were getting was not up to code. I reached out to [redacted], who then informed me that it would be additional costs to bring this job up to code, and that by me signing the contract; I acknowledged that as the consumer it was my responsibility to make sure that the job was up to local, state and federal building codes. I then proceeded to reach out to the owners of the company [redacted] and [redacted], stated my case, and how I was taken advantage of and how this is absolutely unacceptable. I even emailed [redacted] the emails that [redacted] had sent to me prior to me signing the contract. I was then told from them that by signing the contract it did not matter what [redacted] had told me that it was my responsibility to make sure that the job was up to code. I was so taken back; I work in the service industry and know that this is unacceptable and that this is a classic example of Bait and Switch.

[redacted] called me back throughout the day and left messages stating that he would do it up to code for additional money. I did not let the insulators come back the second day to finish the spray foam. I wasn’t happy with the service that I received, the way that I was treated, the bait and switch technique that I was victim to, and I did not want to have a job finished incorrectly. I never paid the insulators for the job, considering it was not done correctly or handled in a professional matter.

I was very upset with this situation and had to hire another insulator to finish the job up to code. I have recently been contacted/harassed by [redacted] from TCS Corp. Collections’ Legal Division, informing me that I need to pay this debt and that if taken to court I will lose, she has even insulted me stating that it is what a salesperson does to seal a deal! I feel that I was taken advantage of by Smart Foam Energy, Inc and its associates. I was a housewife that was trying to get back home after being displaced for a year and Smart Foam saw that as an opportunity to take advantage of me.Desired Settlement: I would like for the company to not charge me , for I entered into a contract under false predenses.

Response:

I am [redacted] of Smart Energy Spray foam. I also am a Sandy victim that has been out of my house since the storm and endured all the problems and sacrifices that [redacted] has. I did not get into my home until Dec.**, 2013. [redacted] my sales rep. sent a couple of estimates to [redacted]. [redacted] sent a reply asking for prices for 2 and 3 inches which is not an un common practice. Do to the price of spray foam some customers offset it by only doing a couple of inches and substituting it with a fiberglass batt. Unfortunately spray foam insulation is not inexpensive. Although it works the best it is based on petroleum so people not familiar don't understand the cost involved and get shocked seeing the price vs using an alternative less effective insulation. [redacted] gave [redacted] exactly what she requested for what ever reason she had. [redacted] has his BPI license. A BPI license is an energy reduction license recognized by [redacted]. He is very qualified to estimate an insulation job. [redacted] says bait and switch? How many estimates did she get from me and others? No red flag on price differences? But why let us spray anything? Her concerns were well before we started spraying and we were willing to leave until the matter got corrected but we were assured it would get worked out. There was no gun to anyone's head. She selected based on price only. My contract clearly states "the customer is responsible to make sure the work getting done meets all local and federal building codes" and ([redacted]) signed the contact. If [redacted] is nit educated on insulation why not run it past her contractor before signing with us? Again I saw there was a concern and was willing to work it out or leave before we started spraying. [redacted] spoke to [redacted] for me and told her to get the best price on insulation for the job she wants done and I will honor the quote and take an additional $500 off. Can't get more fair than that. Instead I am stuck paying for material and labor while [redacted] plays the victim. My office and large customer base is in [redacted] a town equally hit as hard by Sandy. I have friends and relatives not to mention my own family affected by Sandy. I am 100% willing to have a court hear both sides and make a decision. Until then I can not disclose all my fact so she a time to make up a false rebuttal.
