Smart Movers Canada Reviews (%countItem)

I hired this company to dismantle, move and set up a pool table for me. there website claims they are professionals at pool table moving and assembly. The dismantle went fine, the move went fine however the re assembly was anything but fine. Upon showing up at my home to install the pool table the installer didn't even have the proper tools with him and we had to loan him ours. He assembled the frame then installed the slate top, he tightened the top without proper shimming, and cracked the slate in two places. He then proceeded to fill all the holes with drywall compound. and tried to hide the cracks with it as well. when I pointed out the fact that the slate was not level and he cracked it, he demanded payment before he would proceed with the install. When I refused hi packed up and left taking parts of my pool table with him. I called the police and was told it was a civil mater and I would have to sue him. I have had another company look at the work he did and he said it was a joke and no where near a professional installation. So now I'm stuck waiting to settle this in court.

Desired Outcome

Wen Installing my pool table they broke the slate top when i confronted them about it they left taking parts of my table with them. I would like my parts returned and my slate replaced.

After careful review and taking into account our terms and conditions we wish to provide you with a resolution and explain our services in detail:
1) Movers arrived with proper tools. If they didn't have proper tools, they wouldn't have been able to disassemble the pool table at the pick up location in the first place. Movers asked the client for only one bit (in order to avoid extra time for finding it), which accidentally fell out from the tool box inside the truck. In fact, the movers found it later.
2) There were no cracks on the slates by the time our movers left the client's house (delivery location).
3) We didn't try to hide any cracks on the slates, as they didn't exist. Our movers just followed the technological stages of pool table assembly.
4) According to our contract, we have a right to take full payment before unloading the items at the client's delivery location. In this case, we did our best: we unloaded the pool table, assembled it, installed slates, leveled it - completed 95% of the job. At the time of providing the bill, the client categorically refused to pay, referring to the fact that until the pool table was fully assembled he would not pay. The terms and conditions of the contract, which he signed earlier (agreed with all company policies) didn't bother him at all. For about 2 hours we tried to persuade the client to pay the bill, so that we could complete the job. Client refused to pay and escalated the conflict. At that time the client's son *** entered our truck and closed the key inside the truck. ***. Then the police were called and officers arrived on site. After listening to the explanations of the client and of our company representative, checking our contract (signed by the client), Police officers confirmed that we have the right to take pool table rails with us as the company has a lien on any and all of the goods and chattels in his possession and may retain such goods until the time all of the charges are paid to the company. Police officers informed the client about that. We, in turn, once again offered the client, in the presence of the Police, to pay for the service and complete the work, but the client refused again. Then, police officers helped us to unlock the truck and movers left the client's place. The next day our lawyer contacted the client and received a reply from the client's lawyer. Therefore, both lawyers are working on this situation. Now we have an agreement that the client puts money in trust on the account of his lawyer, we complete the installation on July 10th, and they undertake to transfer the payment to the account of our lawyer.
5) Our crew assigned to this job is professional, trained, licensed and well versed in the moving industry. Assembly of the pool table was carried out in accordance with standards and technological requirements. We doubt that any professional company could say that the table was not assembled professionally. The client did not provide any written evidence or any proof of this, not even the company name. ***. It is possible that an unscrupulous company wanted to complete the job which was well done by 95%, put a minimum effort and get full payment.
Despite the problematic situation and the involvement of lawyers, we always appreciate our customers and are ready to talk and resolve any issues that might arise.

We decided to use Smart Movers after being referred to them by a coworker. It was an excellent service. The Movers have done a very clean and neat service without any damages. They were very polite, friendly, professional and careful with all of our belongings. Office lady has been responsive with quotes and additional information. The team from this company was great and did a super job. And the price was the most competitive we could find in the market among well known movers. We would highly recommend Smart Movers will use them again for sure. Thanks a lot!

Thank you for your kinds words, Bernard. We appreciate you taking a time to review Smart Movers. Your experience is very important to us.

Very Expensive move

I hired Smart Movers. To move me 15 minutes from condo apartment to condo apartment. 45 minutes after they arrived (late)I called their office and said someone needed to light a fire under them or it was never going to get done. They jabbered away in whatever language they speak. The one guy never stopped yapping. I told him to quit talking and get the job done. 9 HOURS TO HALF LOAD THE TRUCK. I only had 1 appliance. No couch. 2 armless chairs. I have bins and boxes. I had 2 washer/dryer boxes that I filled with bedding, yarn and other light stuff. They complained about every bin they picked up. Took 2 of them to carry a bin. I'm 65 and wear knee braces and I picked them up and took them to the door. I took my beds apart. 9 HOURS. Every time I went down to the truck they were on the phone I went down once, and everything they had taken out of my condo was sitting in the loading area
The truck was only loaded half high. They will say that I had bins with no lids. I told them I had extra lids. They will say I had boxes marked Fragile - do not stack on top of. Yes, I had 3 but they did stack on top and many items are broken. They refused to load everything. All of the items I had were moved into this condo in June in 2 hours.
Same bins.... same boxes. Then a 15 minute drive to the new location. Then they tell me I have to pay $1500 before they would unload the truck. I told them I only had 500 in cash but I could give them a check or cc # but I would have to transfer money to it They drove away with my belongings. All my meds, food and everything else. My heart pills, diabetic meds. I called the police and they tried to get ahold of them but they had turned their phones off Finally the dispatcher got ahold of them and they came back. I had to borrow money from a friend and their boss *** actually drove me to his house to get the cc signed *** I had was that the police knew that I had gone with him. They he followed me to my car to get the $500 in cash. I asked for a receipt and he told me that it would be mailed the next day He said that they would only unload until midnight and they they were just going to leave the rest in the parking garage At midnight, they had moved a few things into my new condo. They left the parking garage full of everything else. My *** mattress is filthy. My new chairs are filthy They didn't have a truck with the company name on it. *** They basically held my property *** to *** me to pay. *** It has now cost me another 500 to clean up their messes. They were 15 hours and only did 1/2 the job ***
They refuse to give me a receipt.

Desired Outcome

I would like all of my money returned. I have pictures of everything. The police have a full report.

Smart Movers Canada Response

Thank you for the provided information. Unfortunately, this information did not help us in finding the person in our bookings data base. According the screen shot, this situation had taken place on September 18th or around that date. In our company there is no record with such a client name or such an incident described by this person. Moreover, we have no slightest idea of who *** and *** are. The phone number provided by the screen shot does not belong to any of our employees. In addition, the Head of our company is a woman, who was out of the country in September. The pictures of the company and the provided information by this client does not match or coincide with any records in any way.

I was referred to Smart Movers by a friend who used them recently for his huge move. I was very pleased with the way I was treated by the sales rep throughout our correspondence and telephone conversations in regard to the booking, pricing, preparation, etc. I felt confident that I could trust this company. The moving crew arrived on time and were all very friendly, courteous and polite. The guys were hardworking, efficient and very careful with my stuff. Everything was wrapped and disassembled, then unwrapped and assembled, placed where I wanted. Everyone from this company was outstanding. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone who needs reliable and honest movers.
