Though we do not feel responsible for the
damage, we acted in good faith by offering to repair the ring. We went to a Revdex.com
accredited Jeweler with an A+ rating. The Jeweler’s estimate for repairs was “not
to exceed $450.00.” The client rejected our offer. When we could not come to an
agreement with the client, Smart Moves sought legal advice. (Please see the
attached letter from [redacted] that was sent to [redacted] on April 13,
2015.) Ms. [redacted] responded to the letter, with a counter offer, requesting
$1,000.52. Smart Moves rejected the counter offer.
Smart Moves has been in business since 2003. We work tirelessly

This customer hired Smart Moves to move her household
belongings from her condominium to an apartment.  Prior to the move, the customer did not tell
Smart Moves about hidden/secret drawers in her bedroom dresser that contained
jewelry.  Also, the customer did not
remove the hidden jewelry prior to the move.
After the move, the customer complained that jewelry had been damaged in
the move.  Despite not knowing about the
hidden/secret drawers and the jewelry prior to the move, Smart Moves offered to
have the jewelry repaired at a jeweler of Smart Moves’ choosing, or to pay the
customer the amount quoted for repairs.  After having the jewelry inspected by the jeweler, and
getting a quote for repairs, the customer rejected the offer.  Smart Moves now considers the matter closed.

I have to comment on pleased I was with [redacted] Smart Moves LLC, with [redacted] and all the others who recently moved me. Thoroughness, courtesy, and professionalism were present at each stage of this event along with concern for my satisfaction at completion.., something very lacking in other areas of todays society.
I would recommend, AND HAVE TO OTHERS, this firm and these girls in a heartbeat!

Review: I moved from a condo in [redacted] to an apartment in [redacted] on November 11, 2014. I had contracted with Smart Moves to handle the move. [redacted], a Smart Moves employee but not [redacted], came out and gave me an estimate of the cost of the move. On the day of the move, another Smart Moves employee but not [redacted], was with me at the condo to help with the move and was with me at the apartment to help with the unloading and to get the wardrobe boxes. The head mover, a man whose name I cannot remember, and one of the other moving men, came in with my dresser. The head mover stated that someone from Smart Moves did not pack my dresser correctly. He handed me a collection of jewelry, some fine and some costume, that had escaped from the drawer during the move. It was in a big tangle. When the two men placed the dresser in the master bedroom, they looked over my dresser and noticed indentations in the wood from where the jewelry had escaped and pressed into the wood while the dresser was tipped up on one end. There were other scratches in the wood that they noticed but I told them that they were from pet cat with claws. Neither the cat or any other pet is living with me now. I glanced over the tangle of jewelry. As boxes and things were still coming through the door and had to be placed, I slid open the jewelry drawer, noticed that it was a much larger tangle, put the items in and closed the drawer. According to the contract, I had one week to claim any damages. I found that 6 rings had been damaged. Two rings were completely flat. The one that concerned me the most was an antique filigree ring from my grandmother that had/has 2 pearls, 2 sapphires and one garnet. So within the week I contacted Smart moves. [redacted] and [redacted], came over. I showed them the rings and the damaged side of the dresser. [redacted] said

that something like this has never happened before. She also said that she didn't know what to say. It was agreed that [redacted] would take the rings to a jeweler that she deals with to have the rings fixed. The jeweler stated that the rings would be done in a week. I talked to the jeweler on the phone about the antique ring and all my concerns. I met [redacted] at the jeweler to pick the rings up. The only one he kept was the antique ring because it needed more work. I saw the ring at that time. It was not flat any more but it was far from fixed. I left it with him again. So the time period was from before Thanksgiving to before Christmas that the jeweler had the ring. I picked up the ring the week of Christmas because the jeweler would not have time to work on it with Christmas rush. He told me that I could bring it in after Christmas and New Year's which I did. This time the jeweler had the ring for another 3 weeks or so. He finally admitted that he couldn't do anymore with it. When I picked it up, the ring hadn't changed from the first time I picked it up except that now it was missing the second sapphire. The other one had gotten crushed in the move. I contacted [redacted]. She asked me to visit some jewelers and get the ring appraised as she stated that she wasn't going to pay for sentimental value. I did an online search to find jewelers who stated that they repair antique filigree rings. No one could give me an appraisal because the ring was damaged but they did tell me how much the estimated cost to repair would be. A jewl;er stated that it could be up to $1500.00 to repair because of all the damage and the intricacy of the filigree and jewels that need to be replaced. [redacted] stated that that is ridiculous (the amount of money), that she is a small business and can't afford that. I said that she must have insurance for the business and that should cover the repairs. [redacted] said that whatever type of insurance she has does not cover much. I went back to the jeweler from my internet search. THey gave me a estimate for repairs starting at $575.52. [redacted] said that she wanted to try one more jeweler that she works with called the Jewelry Center. I met her there with the ring, [redacted] looked at and stated that it could be fixed for $450 flat, not a penny more. I asked him some questions about some of the rings features that have to be fixed to see how he would respond. I was not comfortable with his answers. [redacted] did state that they sell many antique filigree rings but did not say that his company has a lot of experience fixing them. I told [redacted] of the store and [redacted] that I would have to think about it. [redacted] and I stood in the vestibule of the store and discussed the situation. She kept saying what do you want me to do, I don't know what you want and I am not giving you a blank check for the repair. I want to cover the "what ifs." I sent her an email stating to take the estimate of $575.52 and half of the estimate of $450.00 or $225.00 for a total of $800.52 and send me a check for that amount. The other $ 225.00 could be in reserve if the repairs should go beyond. I also sent an email to [redacted] Stating that I would like this resolved by April 28th, as this has been going on for 5 months at least.Desired Settlement: That I be sent a check for $800.52 to cover the repair.

Response:

Smart Moves was a godsend when I moved my Mom to assisted living from her West Allis condo. Sue suggested I take her out for the day while she and her team packed up, moved, unpacked and got rid of boxes. When I brought my Mom to her new home at [redacted], even pictures were already hung on the walls. It was as seamless and stress-free as possible.
