Thank you Smart Roofing! We recently had our roof changed due to storm damage The owner came by, gave us an estimate, and brought samples of shingles We decided to upgrade to a 30-year architectural shingle, which he agreed was the best plan They gave us a reasonable price and completed the job in a short amount of time The workers were very professional The only trace they left behind was a beautiful new roof We would definitely recommend Smart Roofing Shreveport!

In response to the complaint by [redacted] & [redacted] We collected 1/of the initial value of the job as determined by [redacted] , from the homeowner, by accepting a personal check for $14,744.43.We then supplemented for additional code items which raised the amount of the jobThere was no discussion regarding 1/of the replacement cost value (RCV), versus the actual cost value (ACV) These funds were used to pay for materials that we ordered for his roofThe check he wrote was dated 5/20/On 5/22/we were called by the homeowner and informed that the check he had written us was going to bounceHe said he could cover the check he had written us with a credit card but we informed him that we were not set up to accept themHe was surprised since his restaurant accepted them We proceeded to set up an account with "Square", a credit card processing companyWe also informed Mr [redacted] that Square charges a 2.75% processing feeWe told him the amount of the transaction fee and he had us proceedSince we were a brand new account with Square and they had yet to send us the scanners, they handled the transaction by phone and fax with Mr [redacted] He was informed of everything I immediately went to my bank to inform them that a customer wrote us a non-sufficient funds check but that we would be replacing the funds with a credit card transactionAfter never having a check bounce I was concerned about the problems this might cause at my bank Mr [redacted] claimed he went into his bank, which turned out to be false, and claimed that all our bank had to do was reverse the deposit on the check and that would take care of everythingOur bank, ***, had no idea what he was talking aboutWhen I informed him of that he threatened to contact his bank and report that the credit card charge was a fraudulent transaction A few days later he called and informed us that both the check and credit card transaction had cleared and he would be stopping by to pick up a replacement checkWe had no idea both transactions had cleared until he told usWhen he came in we wrote a check to him for the net amount of the credit card transaction The roof was installed on 6/3/15, after being delayed about one week because of afternoon rains His bank ( [redacted] ***) should never have allowed him to deposit the check in the 1st place and the insurance adjuster probably informed the homeowner that their mortgage company would be on the checkEither way, we never saw the check that was issued by [redacted] to the [redacted] 's At this point the [redacted] 's owe us in excess of $16,And we will be collecting the entire amountWe do not feel we should reimburse him for the credit card transaction fee as it was forced on us and the homeowner knew about in advance If this was such a problem and he knew about it before the build, why did he let us install the new roof for him and then compliment us on how it turned out?

Smart Roofing refunded the credit card fees, and this complaint has been resolved to our satisfactionWe would like to compliment Shawneese on her customer service

In reference to a complaint filed by Mr***, the homeowner, I personally went to his home to see if I could help with the situationI explained to the homeowner that the "money out of pocket" he was referencing was for the deductible on of his insurance claim and that it is illegal for a
contractor to pay any portion of it per Senate Bill He did not care about whether it was a violation of the law but only that we do what was promised by one of our salesmanThe homeowner gave his initial check, made out to him and his mortgage company, to the Smart Roofing sales rep and it was forwarded to *** for processingThe confusion was created by a salesman that is no longer with our companyEvidently he did not explain that *** Contractor Services is a financial partner of Smart Roofing and deals with the insurance companies and their release of funds regarding homeowner claimsWhen *** found out the the cleared check had been sent back to the homeowner and was not forwarded on to them they proceeded to take legal actionI apologize for the problems this caused and *** is no longer involved in this claimWe came to an agreement that a new contract would be signed by the homeowner as soon as *** showed proof that no lien would be filed on his propertyMr***, the homeowner, has agreed to sign a new contract with Smart roofing and is fully aware that he will need to pay his deductibleI plan on meeting with the homeowner this week to clear up the confusion, get a new contract signed and proceed with the restoration of his home regarding the insurance claim

The timing of events and comments have been twisted enough. Our contract clearly states that "When Smart Roofing comes to an agreed upon price and scope of work with your insurance company, it shall become the final work contract and final price. The insurance proceeds will be paid to Smart Roofing, LLC. The policy holder agrees to pay the deductible to Smart Roofing". That amount was accepted by the homeowner and the contract was signed.

In addition the homeowner requested an upgrade of materials, Impact Resistant Class 4 shingles to save on his premiums, over and above what the insurance company had agreed to pay for so the difference will be added to and included in the final bill.
The homeowner forced the issue of us setting up a merchant account with a credit card processing company in order for him to cover the check that he wrote to us originally and then told us later that it was no good.
If we broke a law, according to Mr. [redacted], by charging back a processing fee then we will reimburse the fee. If however we find out that we did no such thing, we will not be giving that back because again, we would never have incurred it if not for the reasons we set it up in the first place.
We have an excellent reputation and receive a lot of referrals from happy and satisfied customers. I do not appreciate myself or my company being slandered with false accusations by Mr. [redacted]

In response to the complaint by [redacted] & [redacted]. We collected 1/2 of the initial value of the job as determined by [redacted], from the homeowner, by accepting a personal check for $14,744.43.We then supplemented for additional code items which raised the amount of the job. There...

was no discussion regarding 1/2 of the replacement cost value (RCV), versus the actual cost value (ACV).
These funds were used to pay for materials that we ordered for his roof. The check he wrote was dated 5/20/2015. On 5/22/15 we were called by the homeowner and informed that the check he had written us was going to bounce. He said he could cover the check he had written us with a credit card but we informed him that we were not set up to accept them. He was surprised since his restaurant accepted them.
We proceeded to set up an account with "Square", a credit card processing company. We also informed
Mr. [redacted] that Square charges a 2.75% processing fee. We told him the amount of the transaction fee and he had us proceed. Since we were a brand new account with Square and they had yet to send us the scanners, they handled the transaction by phone and fax with Mr. [redacted]. He was informed of everything.
I immediately went to my bank to inform them that a customer wrote us a non-sufficient funds check but that we would be replacing the funds with a credit card transaction. After never having a check bounce I was concerned about the problems this might cause at my bank.
Mr. [redacted] claimed he went into his bank, which turned out to be false, and claimed that all our bank had to do was reverse the deposit on the check and that would take care of everything. Our bank, [redacted], had no idea what he was talking about. When I informed him of that he threatened to contact his bank and report that the credit card charge was a fraudulent transaction.
A few days later he called and informed us that both the check and credit card transaction had cleared and he would be stopping by to pick up a replacement check. We had no idea both transactions had cleared until he told us. When he came in we wrote a check to him for the net amount of the credit card transaction.
The roof was installed on 6/3/15, after being delayed about one week because of afternoon rains.
His bank ([redacted]) should never have allowed him to deposit the check in the 1st place and the insurance adjuster probably informed the homeowner that their mortgage company would be on the check. Either way, we never saw the check that was issued by [redacted] to the [redacted]'s.
At this point the [redacted]'s owe us in excess of $16,000. And we will be collecting the entire amount. We do not feel we should reimburse him for the credit card transaction fee as it was forced on us and the homeowner knew about in advance.
If this was such a problem and he knew about it before the build, why did he let us install the new roof for him and then compliment us on how it turned out?

Smart Roofing refunded the credit card fees, and this complaint has been resolved to our satisfaction. We would like to compliment Shawneese on her customer service.

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 6, 2015/11/12) */
When Mr. [redacted] spoke to the owner of Smart Roofing, he was told that weather permitting, his roof would be scheduled to be built the first week of November. With Mr. [redacted]'s acknowledgement and approval, the re-rood was completed on Friday,...

November 6th 2015.
This matter was addressed and completed.

In response to this complaint. First off they are not a customer nor a consumer as referenced in the information. Since when can a subcontractor file a complaint with the Revdex.com against the contractor? Numerous conversations took place between us and the subcontractor regarding the...

quality of their work with no resolution. We repeatedly informed them that we wanted them to leave the finished product clean, but it never happened. The subcontractor left hand prints (which caused immediate oxidation) all over the copper gutters they installed.Their quality of workmanship cost us several referrals. We will pay off this bill this week and we will never use this subcontractor again.Sincerely,[redacted]Smart Roofing
