Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2014/02/25) */
This response is in reply to patient [redacted]'s complaint dated February 12th, 2014.
New upper and lower dentures were made for the patient and delivered on 2/12/2013. The dentures included cutter bars on the chewing surfaces...

of the back teeth to help to chew and break down such foods as lettuce and meats. There were 4 try-in appointments in making of the dentures to get the teeth shape, position, and smile lines determined. Patient had significant loss of bone in her upper front jaw area so she wished this area to be compensated with the denture border. This was done for her. At this 4th try in appointment the patient was satisfied with the denture set-up and signed a standard approval form.
On 2/12/2013 three implants were placed in the lower jaw and the upper and lower dentures were delivered. There were 6 follow up appointments after surgery to adjust sore spots and keep the dentures comfortable.
On the very first follow up appointment patient complained about her lip appearance of her upper denture border that made her upper lip appear too bulky. We reminded her that that was what she desired at the try-in appointments but now she didn't want it in the denture. The denture border was adjusted to remove the bulk of upper front denture border. Standard minor adjustments were made for the lower denture sore spots.
On the second follow up appointment patient complained about the appearance of her upper lip and the lines that were in it. I explained to her that we tried to address the lines in her upper lip by making the denture border larger (as she desired us to) and that it didn't work out and she actually had the border removed back by us at her last visit. And now the lip lines are more visible because the border of the denture is not "plumped" out anymore. We suggested that the lines surrounding her lip were more of a cosmetic situation and could be addressed with dermal fillers. Patient did not mention the lower denture.
On the third follow up appointment patient complained that she wanted her teeth to be larger altogether. We said that we could ask the lab to see what they could do but the lab said it would be a total remake situation.

On the fourth follow up appointment patient said she was displeased with the length of her teeth. We explained that that's what the try-in appointments were for and that we had her sign a standard approval form. She said she understood and that was ok. At this appointment patient stated that upper denture was loose. We agreed to reline the upper denture at no charge. Patient did not mention anything about the lower denture.
On the fifth follow up a reline of the upper denture was performed.
On the sixth follow up appointment the patient came in saying that she was very unhappy with the upper denture and that it was very loose. She said that she did not want to spend any more money to fix her upper denture. I let her know that I did all I could do with the limitations of a conventional upper denture and that I felt dental implants would definitely help her situation (she had been missing her natural teeth for decades and there was not much bone and ridge left to support an upper denture). Patient disagreed. At this point I felt that I had done all that I could do for her and and decided it was time to part ways as we were not making any progress together. I asked her if I refunded her what she paid for the new upper denture and gave the denture back to me would it be a fair deal that we could agree to and part ways? She agreed and left. Six days later a check for the amount (2,000) she paid for the upper denture was mailed to her.
Now, two months later the patient is asking for a refund for the lower denture. She never complained about the lower denture while she was in my office and all complaints other than sore spots were made about the upper denture. I do not agree that I should have to refund the patient for her lower denture as that was not a problem while she was seeing me.

Final Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2014/03/06) */
When I first saw [redacted],D.D.S. I explained that I wanted the dentures made longer. He explained implants and decided to put in 3.
On 12/18/12 was the try in. He wants you to do a full smile (which I never do) so you look like Dracula going in for a bite. As best as I could I said that it looked ok.
I then signed the one and only approval paper. He did bring up cutter bars so that I could thoroghly chew up food.
The dentures were not ready for 71 days. He said that the lab tech was having back surgery and he was going on vacation He said that the length of time would not make a difference on how the teeth would fit. I have talked to another dentist (consultation only) and he said that that length of time would make a difference on the fit.
First try in the top denture was so bulky that the top lip fell straight that it wasn't near my teeth. It was sanded down so it fit better.
Second visit I told him that my lips were compressed tighter than they were with my old dentures which my the lips were deeper. His reply was that he could supply fillers and Botox to fix that would take of the problem. Also one of the implants came unscrewed.
Third visit was to have his tech file a spot on lower denture that was scratching my gum dentist came in and I asked if he had told the lab about making the dentures longer and he replayed that the tech had the information. Also both the upper and bottom were wobbly and top needed adhesive.
Fourth visit was to put a type of liner to reline teeth.
Fifth visit I put off for a long time because I felt that he would do another stop gap measure. Finally when top denture wouldn't say in long even with adhesive and that a piece of plastic was scratching my gum. Also the top wobbled back and forth.
Fifth visit out of desperation I made an appointment dec24th. The tech said that the screws needed to be longer but they were at the other office and she would sand one part to stop the wobbling and leaning inward.. I then said that the main reason I came in was because the top dentures when put in (even with adhesive and sea bond) that they would fall out. At which time the dentist came in from another room and said that since I was displeased that I should find another dentist and if I would give him my top dentures that he would give me a 2 thousand refund (not yet cashed). So I left without my top dentures and bottom ones not fixed. Will try to see him. today and give him the lower implant dentures for a refund. Got a quote for the lower dentures of 3,500.00. With the first refund and for the lower I will be able to get new dentures. If he refuses then I will send this E-mail. Went to his office on 3/4/1400. His answer was no.
