Smith Marion & Company LLP Reviews (2)

*** *** was billed hourly for his business and personal tax returns as well as for financial statements that he requestedWhen Mr*** received his bill he was extremely upset about it and refused to pay itWe agreed to lower his bill for his business services from $4,to $2,
which honored his prior year fee minus the financial statements which we completedWe also sent him a letter and detailed invoice explaining the charges and time spent on his workWe lowered his personal return as well from $to $to honor the prior year feeIn the letter *** ***, Firm Administrator with Smith Marion & Colet him know that his account was on hold and that no work would be completed until Smith Marion received payment for the servicesThis is our standard company policy; to withhold work if the account remains unpaid for more than days. Mr*** contacted us on January 23, to ask for his W2sI informed him that per the letter we would not be working on his account until payment had been received including the preparation of the W2sMr*** responded poorly to this and threatened to sue our company*** *** Partner at Smith Marion responded and offered to further discount the fees by 20%Mr*** then gave the go ahead to process the W2s even though payment had not been received. feel that our firm has been more than fair with Mr***At no point was Smith Marion required to lower the fees however, we chose to attempt to work this out with Mr***I have attached the letters and emails for you review

I am accepting this response with the following complaint
about it: It places the blame for the problems on our company, Gethsemane
Community Care LLC and its president, *** L** ***.
Smith Marion handled three accounts and four tasks for us, including some
minimal bookkeeping for our little company at the end of each year; our company
tax return; our personal tax return; and our payroll for the company which
included W2s at the end of each yearWe had used Smith Marion for five or six
years to complete these tasks for usAlthough our fees went up a little sometimes,
they were still within reasonThe work was done correctly as far as we knew and that was very
important to usWe always paid our bills promptlyOur Wforms had to do with
our biweekly payroll and the fees for this service were subtracted from our
account electronically when due, every two weeksWe owed nothing on our
payroll account
When we took our bookkeeping work to Smith Marion for our return, that was
all that was supposed to have been doneWe were supposed to receive back the
Accountant's Copy so we could update our booksThen we were to bring in the
rest of our papers so the company tax return could be completedWe felt it was
taking a long time but left it in the hands of Smith Marion, trusting that the
company knew what it was doingThen we received a phone call telling us the
tax return was finished and needed to be sent in immediatelyWe mentioned that we still had not brought in the rest of the papers and were informed that an
amendment could be filed laterLater, when we asked about that, we were told that
no amendment would be necessary
Another problem was that a new category was added to our books which was
irrelevant to our business, yet more than $12,was placed into that
bookkeeping categoryThere was no need to even create new categoriesAll
categories had been established in previous yearsAlthough we asked, we never
received explanation as to where the money for the new category, Meal
Preparation, wentWith this blatant error, we can assume that other problems have been created which we have not yet discovered
So we were stuck with messbookkeeping work; an incomplete return having
been sent in, which we were later told needed no amendment; and a demand for
thousands of dollars over the usual priceIt is also relevant that our company was beginning to close
in and had far less bookkeeping work to do than previous yearsThe
company closed in the summer of After all this, we were told our account was on hold and our Wforms would not be
sentOur bill was lowered, but still higher than usual(Forms were finally sent to us a couple days before they were due from our
company to our employees.)
