Review: I am the owner of a 2006 volkswagon passat. I had a problem with the car not accelerating until it hit 40mph. then it would kick in and driver fine. I brought it to Smithtown VW on 3/**/14 after 6pm for repair. I was called on 3/** at 3:25 pm to advise me that the car needed a crank sensor and it needed tires and a rim . I declined the tires and rim but approved the crank sensor. The adviser [redacted] told me they would have to order the part and it should be in on Monday and they would call when the work is complete. I never received a call so my wife called on 3/** and they said the work was complete and they would give a 10% discount off the repair job because no one contacted us. I picked the car up on 3/** at 3:24 pm and paid $595.61. On 03/** the original problem came back. I called the service department on 3/** and they said to drop it off on Tuesday. I dropped the car off on 3/** in the evening hours. On 3/** the service department adviser [redacted] called and said that they will have to take the motor apart to find out what the problem was. I told him that they miss diagnosed the problem and that I should not have to pay for this. He stated he would have to talk to the [redacted] He then called me back later and said that the foreman would work on the car and I would not be charged to find out what the problem was. He further stated that he would call when the find out what the repair is. I did not hear from VW for a few days so I called and spoke to [redacted] on Thursday the [redacted] and he said that it was my timing belt and that it would cost 4,400 to install it. I refused the work and told him to get my car back together and I would pick it up. He informed me that they would need sometime to get it together and that he would call when it is ready. I never heard from the service department so I called on Monday 3/** and spoke to [redacted] and he stated that the car would be ready on Tuesday 4/* never heard from them again. On Wednesday 4/* I called and said that I am on my way to get my carDesired Settlement: again they told me it is not ready. I was informed that it would be ready by the end of the work day Thursday 4/*. By 5:30pm we did not hear from them so my wife called and spoke to [redacted] and he said that [redacted] was off and that it still is not ready because there is a fuel leak and they need to replace a fuel house that they did not have and had to order. He further stated that they would overnight the part so we could have it for 4/*. Friday came and went and we did not hear from them.4/5notfix

performed diagnostic test on vehicle. codes related to shorted crankshaft position sensor. replaced crank sensor assy and cleared engine light. roadtested vehicle ok. customer picked up vehicle and drove approx 145 miles. check engine light came back on with fault codes related to camshaft timing. we disassemled partial engine to diagnose at no charge to customer and found timing chain stretched causing the timing to jump. repair would be replacement of chains and guides. estimated cost was $4400 . offered customer discounted rate of $3500 which he declined. we reassemble engine and found a fuel leak at one of fuel lines. replaced line at no charge to customer. that delayed the reassembly process. we do apologize for poor comunication with customer but as far as repairs that were made we did follow proper procedure with replacing shorted sensor as known failed component with additional unforseen repairs needed at that time.
