Smog Express

Review: I believe that the staff at Smog Express on Folsom Blvd in Sacramento attempted to scam me into paying for an additional smog test. Approximately 2 months prior, I first requested a smog test from this company. They stated it did not pass the screener and could not be tested. The staff ([redacted]) very poorly tried to explain the issue. I did not understand his rationale but he recommended that I "drive the car around for 100 miles and bring it back." No paperwork was provided during the first visit nor was any additional explanations or policies discussed.

Approximately a week or two later, I returned the car with 100 miles on it. Another staff(unknown name) helped me and stated it still had not passed the screener and stated that the failed screening could not be fixed by just driving it 100 miles but rather could be fixed by "driving it for longer distances during one trip at a certain speed." I was leaving town shortly for approximately 10 days. A paperwork titled OBD II Diagnostics was provided stating the catalyst was "not ready." No other policies or guidelines were listed on the paperwork. After my return, I followed the recommendation and brought the car back on 12/12/15. At this point, the manager [redacted] helped me and stated that my car did not pass the screener and that I had "driven it around" enough and needed to take it to a mechanic. Two days later, I took it to a mechanic who ran a 10 minute diagnostic and fixed the problem. He stated that "it is really difficult to get the results from just driving around." I took it back to Smog Express that day and they stated it had passed the screener but they would charge me an additional $50 because the policy was that the re-test had to be conducted within 30 days.I was never informed of this policy and they refused to test my car even after talking to the manager (who was incredibly disrespectful). I believe this company purposely had me follow bogus recommendations and did not explain policies in order to receive an additional payment.Desired Settlement: I would like a reimbursement for my smog test that was never completed due to potential scamming and poor customer service.
