In regards to the complaint by Mr. [redacted]SMS Garage11353 Lebanon RdCincinnati, Oh 45231SMS Garage is wholly owned and operated by Watch Your Head Inc. a limited liability corporation.Compaint # [redacted]In regard to the issue with [redacted]:On or about June 11, 2016 The customer brought his...

Kia in and requested that we install a new Cam Sensor. We ran the diagnostic computer on his car and indeed, it showed a cam sensor code. We installed the cam sensor and erased the code. During this visit we noted one or more misfires and asked the customer if he would like us to investigate. The customer stated that he did not have the funds to address it at that time. I personally warned the customer that driving the vehicle with a misfire would ruin his catalytic converters, and to NOT drive the vehicle. The customer paid and drove the vehicle away.Subsequently, on or about June 22, 2016 the customer returned the vehicle to us, at that time the vehicle was misfiring even worse. We diagnosed a bad ignition coil. We replaced one coil, and the three spark plugs on the left bank, as the customer did not have the funds to do the right bank, or address the plug wires, which were original to the vehicle (as were the plugs and coils) This vehicle had in excess of 112,000 miles on it, and had never received required maintenance, such as spark plugs and wires. Upon completing this partial repair, the vehicle was still misfiring. Once again, we warned the customer that driving the vehicle would damage the catalytic converters, at least, if not more.On the third trip back to the shop, the vehicle was running VERY poorly. We advised the customer that the catalytic converters (one or more) were almost definitely damaged, the customer ignored our advice to replace them. (stating he did not have the funds) It seemed obvious to us that he had been driving the vehicle with the misfire, which in turned dumped raw fuel into the converters and caused their failure (which stops up the exhaust system and is very bado the engine) We proceeded to replace the additional coils (3 total on the vehicle) and the spark plug wires and three spark plugs on the right banks. Once again warning the customer that we suspected bad catalytic converters and at this time an additional vacuum leak which we could not pin down. The customer drove the vehicle away from our shop. In hindsight, I should have refused to work on the vehicle at all, however, hindsight is 20/20 the old saying goes, and I wanted to do my best to help.On his last visit, I hooked the vehicle to our smoke machine (to trace hard to find vacuum leaks) We called the customer in to witness the second running of the test. The tracing smoke was coming out of the intake manifold as well as the throttle body. The customer asked how much it would be to repair. At that time, I delined to work on the vehicle further. The customer still refused to address the catalytic converter problem, this, along with the vacuum leaks (extensive) an oxygen sensor code, a bad oil leak at the valve cover gaskets. I knew that in order to repair the vehicle correctly, the customer would have a bill that ran into the thousands.I felt that it was best to pass on any further repairs since the customer was obviously not taking my advice on needed repairs, and was obviously driving the car, when we warned him of damage that would occur. This vehicle has been seriously neglected in terms of mechanical maintenance. The customer stated that he had not had to do anything to the vehicle since he purchased it. I questioned this statement, mentioning that his vehicle was way behind on important issues, and that the condition of electrical connectors and hoses and vacuum lines, etc.. was horrible, and that they were disintegrating from the heat trapped in the engine cover, I| also showed this to the customer on this final trip.I am saddened by the fact that the customer does not understand what happened to his vehicle, but nothing we did was NOT needed, and we did everything we charged for. We cannot reasonably be held responsible for repairs needed that he failed to execute. He did not follow our recomendations, and now he needs extensive repair work. Repair work that would have been needed whether or not we replaced the coils, wires and plugs, as well as the cam sensor, and repair work (catalytic converters) that might have been avoided if he would have heeded our advice to not drive the vehicle until all misfires had been rectified. I truly feel for this customer, however, we are not responsible for the condition of his vehicle. He states that his vehicle ran fine before he brought it to us? This is false, why would he bring his vehicle in to a repair shop if it were running fine? This vehicle is probably not worth, retail, the cost of repairing it. That too is beyond our control.I would be happy to speak in person to anyone interested, or answer any questions on behalf of Watch Your Head Inc. llc. I am a representative of the corporation, Manager of SMS Garage.Sincerely, [redacted]
