We recently purchased a home that had a roof replaced by Smythe Roofing in or Upon renovating the home we discovered a large amount of mold that had rotted through the 2X4's, drywall, insulation and exterior siding due to an error in the workmanship of Smythe Roofing The original flashing from when the home was built in was reused and diverters were not installed during the roofing, both which resulted in rain water running down behind the siding instead of into the eve's trough We only discovered the mold by removing the flooring in the entrance way, which is why our home inspector did not see it Not only did they not do their job correctly, the repair *** did was done incorrectly and has had to be fixed by another roofing company We also discovered that they roofed directly over the exterior vent in our kitchen
Upon calling Smythe Roofing they confirmed they replaced the roof on the home After advising them of the problem we uncovered, they advised me the warranty expired in May so nothing could be done for us as their workmanship warranty is only years To date they have not provided documentation confirming when the work was completed as I requested We are pursuing this through the seller whose disclosure statement confirms the roof is only years old which means it is under warranty After several emails I asked if they would be willing to provide some form of compensation to assist with the repairs given the amount of damage caused, which they declined
