January 31, 2016On October 23, 2015, the customer brought his *** in with the complaint of "no heat"We flushed the system and noted that at sometime someone had added sealant to the cooling systemWe had not done that at our shopThis particular model car is prone to head gasket failure
and often sealer is added to try to prevent failure and as a cost effective means instead of replacing the head gasketThe customer was informed of this as this sealant can solidify and cause blockageWe said that we would flush it out and that it was not a permanent fix, but that the debris could eventually settle back into the system at some point and cause the same problem. The customer picked up his car, paid his bill, and claimed that the heat worked. In January, he came in and approached my employee claiming his heat was not working and that he had no moneyHe asked if we would fix it for freeOur employee said he would check with me-the owner-the next dayI have no way of knowing whether it was the same problem without actually looking at the car and diagnosing it, which I would typically charge labor feesI was willing to look at the car, but since had informed him that the repair done in October was more than likely a temporary fix because of the settling of the sealant solids, there would be a cost to look at and fix the car again no matter what the issue was.The customer had use of the car during some of October, November, December and some of January when heat would most likely be used in the vehicleHe offered no complaints during that almost month period.Monte S

failure and often sealer is added to try to prevent failure and as a cost effective means instead of replacing the head gasket. The customer was informed of this as this sealant can solidify and cause blockage. We said that we would flush it out and that it was not a permanent fix, but that the debris could eventually settle back into the system at some point and cause the same problem. The customer picked up his car, paid his bill, and claimed that the heat worked.
In January, he came in and approached my employee claiming his heat was not working and that he had no money. He asked if we would fix it for free. Our employee said he would check with me-the owner-the next day. I have no way of knowing whether it was the same problem without actually looking at the car and diagnosing it, which I would typically charge labor fees. I was willing to look at the car, but since had informed him that the repair done in October was more than likely a temporary fix because of the settling of the sealant solids, there would be a cost to look at and fix the car again no matter what the issue was.
The customer had use of the car during some of October, November, December and some of January when heat would most likely be used in the vehicle. He offered no complaints during that almost 3 month period.Monte S
