Snip Snip Reviews (1)

Review: On 9/3/13 I went to Snip Snip to have my hair cut. I asked the operator to cut my bangs and trim my layers. When she was done, I paid and left. When I got home, I could see that over half, almost three-quarters of my hair was gone, starting at only a couple of inches from my scalp and leaving a thin fringe of hair to my shoulders. I contacted the owner and went in the following Friday. She gave me a makeup cut, but there was nothing she could do as most of my hair was gone. She told me that my hair had been "cut from the wrong angle". I then found a stylist that had extensive experience with fine and curly hair and went to her a month later. She told me that when she first saw me, she assumed I must have naturally thin hair and that I had let a friend cut it. After carefully appraising what was left, this stylist told me that 1) my hair had been thinned (should never be done to fine hair), 2) cut backwards, upside-down, and against the curl, 3) a large divot had been left in the back of my head where I have a cowlick, and 4) the volume and length was unequal and uneven. My hair grows very slowly, at approximately 3/8" every 2 months. The divot alone will take three to six months to grow out and five years overall. I had just painstakingly grown out my hair from hair color so that my gray was a highlight. Now, because the hair on top was cut so short and against the curl, it shows an unattractive spray of every gray hair I have. My hair was cut by someone that did not know what they were doing. My hair is not a learning experience and I had every right to assume that, when I sat down in that chair, the operator would follow my directions and would leave my hair presentable, not a ruinous embarrassing nightmare that would leave me feeling victimized. Normally, my hair would fluff up and make even a bad cut look decent, but it can not do that when it has been completely and unprofessionally hacked off. I have had to go to a stylist that specializes in fine and curly hair so it can be eventually coaxed back to its natural curl patternDesired Settlement: A refund. In an effort to make my hair presentable, I now must color my hair, take silica supplements to foster growth, and be cut by a stylist with experience in my hair type. I seek compensation for the price of the supplement ($27.94), hair color ($10), and difference in stylist's fees ($11), ($48.94 per month) or $567.28 per year for five years, $2,836.40.

Response:

I recently received a [redacted] for $14 from Ms. [redacted] who owns Snip Snip to cover the amount of the haircut. Unfortunately, since this amount in no way compensates for the $30 to $55 per month I am now forced to use to try to make my hair look presentable in its present state, I cannot accept it as compensation.

The only way to get my hair to look again is to let it grow out and cut off the badly mangled hair as it does. Since my hair grows slowly, 1/4" to 1/2" per month, this process will take about five years. I feel from the letter included that Ms. [redacted] does not understand or does not wish to understand what was done to my hair, so I have decided to take my complaint to Small Claims to try to recover some part of the money.

While each haircut can be subjective as to the beauty of the finished cut, a hair cut that egregiously goes against haircutting principles (cutting against the curl, thinning fine hair) is not properly done. Anyone should be able to sit down and get a haircut without the ghastly effects lasting five years and having to be stuck, literally, with the tab for the results.

Thank you for your help.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

I let the owner know within 24 hours of receiving the haircut that I was unhappy and went in two days later to show her. My hair volume had been decreased by over 50% and as much as 75%; it was difficult to miss that it had been cut off as close to the scalp as an inch and a half. There was a divot cut in the back of my head that would be apparent to anyone who cut hair.

I did not have hair color on my hair at the time and had not had any color on my hair for over five years, the time it had taken to grow out. I had been happy with my natural hair color. But, after the hair cut, the grey, which had been a pleasant highlight in my hair, now sprayed out in such an unpleasant fashion that I needed to color it in order to make it look less strange. I do not enjoy coloring my hair and find it difficult (having MS) to do it on a regular basis. I am not asking for the amount to have the coloring done in a salon. I am not asking for any coverage for products such as for volume, shampoo, conditioner or mechanical device or for any medical condition resulting from this, only what is needed to reasonably and practically cover the damage.

In order to make my hair look presentable, I now am spending almost $50 per month, primarily for a silica supplement (approximately $28), $10 for the hair coloring itself, and $11 for my hair cut by an operator who understands fine hair. The $11 is not the amount of the cut, only the dollar difference between Snip Snip and the new salon.

I live on the low end of Social Security Disability and this is a very large and difficult monetary outlay for me. The only way to get rid of this cut is to let the hair grow out and cut it off as it grows. As my hair grows very slowly, at approximately 1/4" to 1/2" per month, this will take approximately three to five years.

Sincerely,

Business

Response:

I'm sorry I did not see the damage miss [redacted] says she had from the haircut. My sister in law and brother in law have ms which leaves the hair brittle and you should never take supplements without a Dr.s consent and silicone supplements have very bad side effects. I myself have curly hair.
