Snowy Mountain Towing East Reviews (1)

My husband was involved in a car accident. I arrived at the scene shortly after El Paso County Police had arrived. Shortly after I arrived, the Colorado State Patrol arrived. I was going to call my insurance company to have a tow sent, however, State Patrol would not allow me to call in the tow, said it would take too long and they would call the tow. Snowy Mountain Towing arrived, drove over part of the fence of the people's yard that my husband's car ended up. I don't know if it was intentional or not. When he got out of the truck, I told him I needed his information to provide to my insurance company. I was obviously distraught as State Patrol would not allow me to leave to head to the ER until the truck had been towed. He was very rude, said he needed info from me as well because he WILL get paid. He handed me the card and told me he is a one man company and I needed to call ahead of time regarding any business. I asked him if he could email be the bill so that I could send it to my insurance company, I was told he DOES NOT use email. I contacted him after we left the ER. It was my intention to pick up my husband's personal belongings. He told me I'd better hurry up because he closed in 30 minutes. I told him it would have to wait till the following day. Once again, he mentioned calling ahead of time. He also stated that his original quote of $300 dollars was incorrect, it would cost me $510. The next morning he called my husband about the truck. My husband told him I was at work but was plan on taking care of everything today. He told my husband he would not be available until after 1pm, which was conveniently 24 hours after the accident. He called to let us know he was back. He failed to mention that he only takes cash or check prior to me arriving at his house/office. We arrived and he was once again very rude. He told me that he would not wait for the insurance company, that he reduced the charge and I could either pay $339 right now or it would be $30 a day storage fee until he was paid. I then found out he only takes cash or check. I told him I had no money on me and hadn't been planning on my husband wrecking his truck. He made a disparaging remark to my husband which I did not appreciate. I ran home and manipulated my accounts so that I had funds to pay for the tow. I drove quickly back, but know one was there. Keep in mind his office hours are 9-5. It was 4:30, he had let to go into town on personal errands. I asked if there was any place that I could leave the check, he said, no, not really. I told him that I had the check for $339 for him, he said, plus $30, right? I said you didn't say anything about plus $30, I made it out for the bill amount. He said, $30 for the second day of storage. I told him I'd be back the following morning - he said call first. I drove home again, rewrote the check for $369. Called again when he was supposed to be open the following morning after 9am. No response. I called again a few minutes later, he stated that he was in town but would be back in an hour. I said okay, I'm bringing a flat bed so I can at least drag the vehicle from your property. When I arrived, I asked my husband to take the owner the check as I didn't want to have to deal with him. When my husband handed it to him, he was rude, said, I don't understand, you had all night, why didn't you bring cash? He then needed to see my ID. I asked him if he wanted to see my driver's license or military ID. He said driver's license would be fine. Before he had a chance to make a comment, I stated my bank is USAA and the funds are there. He sent his son out to watch over us to make sure we weren't doing anything we weren't supposed to be doing. As we were trying to hoist the car on to the flatbed, he called his son and told him to not let us take the vehicle. A few minutes later he called back and said go ahead. My assumption is that he wanted to make sure the funds were there. Supposedly Colorado State Patrol rotates towing companies. This is the second accident that I've known that State Patrol has called Snowy Mountain Towing to respond. In the other incident, he wanted over $600 for towing a motorcycle and the accident had not occurred that far from his office. He was rude and sketchy even then. I would not be surprised if he was giving out kickbacks for his service. He is rude, does not want any paper trails (changed his fees multiple times, not straight forward, no email, no website) and truly unprofessional by making judgment calls on people to whom he is supposed to be providing service.
