Mr*** called at 9:A.Mon SatApril and asked if he could bring his boat by for me to look atI told him he couldhe arrived about 15-minutes laterI wrote a service ticket and told him I would look at it 1st thing Monday morningHe made it clear that he wanted me to look at
it right nowSo I stopped what I was doing and looked at his motorIt became clear that he had water in his fuel system and it was in all of his carburetorsWhile he watched me, I removed a side cowling and drained the four carbsI got my shop fuel tank out and flushed out his fuel system with fresh fuel.I replaced the on engine fuel filterI installed the carbdrain screws and primed the system with my fresh fuelI supplied water to the engine and started it on the flusherThe motor ran really bad and I told him he may have debris in his carbs or they where severely out of adjustmentI told him I have a expensive electric vacuum meter used to adjust and balance the carbs and I could install it on his engto see if they were balanced or notHe agreed to the procedure watching me all the timeAt this point he asked how much this would costI told I wasn't sure because I wasn't done with it yet. I installed the meter and restarted the engineThe meter indicated that the carbswere in fact severely unbalancedI went through the procedure of balancing the carbsand the engine ran ran a lot betterI took it back to my pond and ran it under load and completed the adjustments with the vacuum toolThe engine was now running perfectI brought the boat back up and re-installed the side cowlI allowed him to dump his bad fuel into one of my disposal containers at no cost.it was now approximately 11:a.mWhen we came into the office to settle up I charged him for hours labor and a fuel filter, shop fuel and a processing fee for credit card use. When I told him what the total was he said that he thought it was a little expensiveI told him how much the labor rate was as he did not ask when he first arrivedI also told him that I don't normally provide a drive thru boat repair service and he thanked me for doing this for him as he wanted to take his wife out that day for a rideHe paid his bill and thanked me againI thought everything was fine until I received his complaint from the Revdex.comHis complaint does not provide a disputed amount, only that he wants a refundHe will not get a full refund as I repaired his boat as askedIf he wants some money back, I will be willing to discuss the amountIf I decide to refund any amount it will come with a notice that this facility will never work on his vessels ever againIt's really hard to find a boat mechanic that care's enough to stop what they are doing and fix someone's boat who just rolled into the drive wayIf he's willing to drop this complaint I would be more than happy to help him againMy charges are right in line with the industry standard for a customer who wants his boat fixed on the spotI did him a favor, and this is how I get repaidNice

The only part of this customers complaint that is true would be the initial *** charge for diagnostics, the final price of the job and that I was not lake testing his boat for freeWhen MrGomez brought his boat to my facility, he also brought an hour long story about his trials and
tribulations with other shop's that he had his boat to recently and that he was very displeased with the service he got from themI told him I would diagnose his engine problems and if he agreed to allow me to make the needed repairs to his boat, I would cut the diagnostic fee in halfOne of the diagnostic procedures performed on MrGomez's boat included the use of a fuel pressure gauge that monitors injector rail pressureit also involved the use of an on site pond with a boat ramp so that testing could be done under a loaded conditionThis test performed on MrGomez's engine produced a symptom of a loss of power that also coincided with a loss of fuel pressure in the injector rail that could not be rectified by forcing fuel into the vapor separator which is a giant fuel bowl with an electric fuel pump in itOn the bottom of this fuel pump there is a small fuel filter that all fuel going into the fuel pump must pass throughMy previous experience with this fuel system told me that the filter inside the vapor separator was plugged up, which requires complete removal of the intake manifold and injectors to get to the vapor separatorBefore beginning any repairs to MrGomez's motor I produced an estimate that included the cleaning of the vapor separator and fuel injectorsThe total estimate for these repairs which included parts, labor shop supplies and sales tax was about *** this estimate did not included the fuel filter that MrGomez is complaining about or the replacement of a customer supplied thermostat that MrGomez brought to my facility about a week after he dropped of his boat to meI called MrGomez and told him what I had found during my diagnostics procedure and also told him what the estimated amount to fix his boat would beI told him what the estimate included as far as procedures to be performed including the cleaning of the fuel injectorsHe told me that the injectors were recently replacedI told him that if I found a large amount of debris in the vapor separator that I would be cleaning the injectors so that I could be sure that the entire system was clean.MrGomez then gave me permission to begin repairs on his boat and told me he was going to refinance the boat to pay for the repairsI began repairs on MrGomez's boatWhen I opened up the vapor separator I found a large amount of debris and the fuel filter inside was completely blockedI knew that this was his entire problem and took pictures of both the fuel screen and the inside of the vapor separatorI cleaned all the parts including the injectors based on the conversation I had with MrGomez before beginning the repairsThe boat was tested again in the same fashion a sit was during diagnosticsThe engine ran flawlessly and never lost fuel pressure or powerMrGomez's total bill was *** because of the thermostat he brought me to replace and an on engine fuel filter that was replaced because the old one was black with debris before the final test runIve been in business here for yrsand have NEVER taken a customers boat to a public water way for testingI never promised MrGomez that I would provide that service to him for freeI did tell him that if it did not run perfectly for him that I would fix it for free, which is also why I cleaned those injectorsI provide a warranty with all my work, so I have to cover all the bases that could affect the performance of the engineMrGomez did not complain about the bill until a month after the engine was repaired and waiting for him to pick-upHis boat is still at my facility unpaid for and will begin accruing storage charges on Saturday the 13th of May at the amount of $per dayI am willing to refund the $labor charged for the on engfuel filter. He gave permission for everything I did and he can't afford to pay his bill.So he resorts to the Revdex.com to try and brow beat me into reducing his billHe has also threatened me with a letter from his lawyer
