Solar Brokers Canada Reviews (14)

I paid $32,666.79 for solar panels in June 2017. It took forever to get them up and running. I believe it was March 2018. They stopped working on November 2019. I am not able to get any sort of reply from anyone at Solar Brokers Canada or *** or Green Lion Eco Group. I am receiving payment requests from *** - for payment of the panels. Which I am not planning on paying until this is resolved. I am having a heck of a time finding an account number so I have provided the one in which I found for the MicroFIT program.

Desired Outcome

Answers would be good. If this company is out of business who do I call to sort out the problem as the panels are not working. I was told these panels would bring in enough $$ to pay for themselves. This is not at all the case if they are not working. I need the company to contact me or answers on what my next steps should be. I will not be continuing to pay for a product that is not working in such a short time when they should be producing for 25-30 years.

Have been producing Power for *** ; since Feb.2018. System worked flawlessly until last week. (AUG. 2019)
Various Fault codes appear.
THEY'RE OUT OF BUSINESS; SO I'm getting a Local Company to come and take a look. Hopefully ; it won't cost a Fortune to get it Producing Power again.

I had a system installed on 2017, system has not performed the way it should. Not meeting close to max output. Now I cannot monitor my daily generation. Don't know who to turn to for checking of this and how much it will cost me. I already got a loan for the system.

Desired Outcome

Want the business to check the system output and see if it can be maximized.

June of 2018 we signed an agreement with ***'s Solar Brokers who turned out to be Green Lion Eco Group somehow. They eventually contracted a local company to install solar panels on our house and that was completed in early October. It took awhile before all certificates were obtained and the system was turned up on or about Dec 6. After numerous attempts the people involved were not able to get all components talking and working together. I have emailed and left phone messages on several occasions asking for a resolution but they have fallen on deaf ears. The system has sporadically produced power once the snow melted off the panels but the inverter was in alarm for several days with a "Electric arc detected" alarm. I finally phoned the support help line for SMA inverters and they walked me through a power down reset. It worked for a day but came up with a fault condition. "Unstable operation". My system has optimizers installed on the panels and they have yet to talk to the inverter. It has been very frustrating trying to get anyone from Green Lion to respond. What can you tell me about this company? I thought I would be dealing with a reputable company since they appeared to be working with ***s ***.
Product_Or_Service: Solar power generation
Account_Number: XX-XXXXX

Desired Outcome

Other (requires explanation) I would like a working and reliable solar system.

When Solar Brokers Canada did their engineering study and sent us a proposal for a solar panel system for our roof, they told us the system would generate 5921 kWh of electricity every year and pay for itself in just over 10 years. It has been badly underperforming and not just the weather. If we had perfect sunny weather every day it would never make the stated amount. Right now it will take at least 30 years to pay itself off at the current rate. We contacted Green Lion Eco Group, their sister company, about this and they were going to send a technician to see if there was some problem. Now neither Solar Brokers Canada nor Green Lion Eco Group are returning calls or emails. We need to have the system repaired if that is the issue or sue Solar Brokers Canada (if there is anything left of it) for misrepresenting the output and profitability of their product.

Desired Outcome

We would like the system to operate as advertised or get a partial refund that reflects the ROI promised on the system.

I purchased a rooftop *** solar system from Solar Brokers Canada at a cost of $20,861. The contract was signed on November 7, 2017 with ***, Manager and ***, Director of Operations. My ongoing contact was ***, Associate Manager. My purchase was described by Solar Brokers Canada as a "*** Solar Power System" with a guarantee that "A new system would be installed if any issue arose with the installation and ongoing functioning of the system." The solar panel installers were guaranteed with a "Double Warranty". Solar Brokers team of "Sunshine Guys" would complete ongoing inspections of the solar system and correct any issues if they arose.
Included in the contract was: the design, installation of the solar panels, all electrical work, all necessary paperwork, permits and inspections. Also included was a 25 year warranty with the promise to install a new system should any issue arise with the system including a guarantee, over a 12 year period, to replace any panels that failed to produce electricity at the same initial level.

On October 6, 2018 the solar panels were installed. On January 24, 2019 the final electrical work was completed. And then we never had any further contact with Solar Brokers, despite many attempts.
My complaint is that the solar panel system has never worked and there has been zero generation of electricity. I have tried to reach all of my contacts at Solar Brokers many times since January 24 and I have not been able to contact anyone at the company. I even went to their office on Niagara Street in Toronto but found it abandoned.

Desired Outcome

I want Solar Brokers to contact me, complete the installation and get the system working to the standard agreed on. Final electrical work, inspections, paperwork and permits need to be completed. If the company is not able to honour the 25 year warranty and ongoing inspections and replacement/correction of issues that arise - which I paid for - I want financial compensation.

Below is the email I've received from *** Associate Manager at Green Lion Eco Group regarding the refund due to their delays in commissioning the solar system.

***
4 Oct 2018, 11:20
to me, Quality, Project, ***.***

Good morning ***,

Thank you for your email and for your patience in this matter. In ***'s absence, I have been catching myself up to speed all projects, both past and present which has created delays in the typical timelines of response (approximately 2 business days). However I have looked into the case you have provided in order to offer further clarification on where we might be able to offer compensation to you in regards to your system.

Please see below the timelines for your project as I understand them, beginning from when your Solar Generation meter was installed:

May 8th, 2018 - Solar Generation Meter Installed
May 22nd, 2018 - Deadline for system commissioning (Meter installation date + 10 business days)
July 17th, 2018 - System Commissioned and Monitoring Account Set Up guidelines sent to you via email by *** Quality Assurance Coordinator
August 6th, 2018 - Acknowledgement of monitoring email and identification of a requirement for a technician visit
August 20th, 2018 - Deadline for system troubleshooting (Date requested + 10 business days) - due to technician unavailability
September 3rd, 2018 - Actual technician appointment, troubleshooting performed and issue identified
September 6th, 2018 - Solution applied, system repaired and running at full capacity.

Based on your final proposal, I have calculated the compensation we can offer based on the delayed timelines you have experienced. The first block of compensation will be given based on a 55 day delay to have your system initialized. The second block of compensation will be given based on the additional 13 days of waiting time for a technician visit for troubleshooting. The numbers below are calculated based on your final proposal:

May 23rd - May 31st (8 days) $6.94/day = $55.48
June 1st - June 30th (30 days) = $215.00
July 1st - July 17th (17 days) $7.00/day = $119.00

Total lost compensation for delayed Commissioning timelines = $389.48

August 21st - August 31st (10 days) $6.29/day = $62.90
September 1st - September 3rd (3 days) $5.40/day = $16.20

Total lost compensation for delayed Technician appointment = $79.10

Total Compensation to be provided = $468.58

Please let me know if you have any further questions regarding your compensation. We ask that you allow 45 days for processing and delivery of your compensation cheque.

Thank you kindly in advance.
***

Desired Outcome

Looking to receive the compensation ($468.58) promised by Green Lion Eco Group since Thursday, October 4, 2018 due to their delays in getting the solar panels commissioned on time.

had nothing but issues got my project though ***. its been nearly a year the panels are on the roof I waited 6 months to hear from them for a install date one day they just showed up with ladders ect they never even told me they would be coming .I was supposed to have 16 panels the installer measured the roof and someone had miss measured .it was reduced down to 14 panels then they went on the roof and only could fit 13 panels .The ESA failed the inspection because cables where touching the roof and the critter guard was missing and my inverter had a broken front panel after contacting them over and over and no reply I have contacted *** who still cant answer when my system will be up and running . im still waiting for a promised rebate and im not hooked up to the grid so im loosing revenue avoid this company

On 2018-08-13 I requested to cancel my installation of Solar Panels and a refund of my deposit of $25,548.29.
I have receipts scanned and emailed to me by Solar Brokers Canada.
Done via email.
Again I asked on 2018-09-10.
Additionally on 2018-12-19.
I have repeatedly called the company greeted only once by a person in the September of 2018...but have left multiple messages requesting call backs.

There are electronic docments in "the cloud" but they have been revoked by Green Lion group on 2018-11-14 These documents reflect the contracts.

Desired Outcome

Refund all funds they drew from me.

My "adventure" with Solar Brokers Canada/Green Lion Eco Group started in January, 2018. After having my info taken at a *** store in Windsor, Ontario, I was contacted by *** from Solar Brokers, proposal submitted, agreement signed, and *** from Green Lion Eco Group, was assigned as project coordinator.
Site assessment was done mid February and I received the Net Metering Offer to Connect from ***, expiring on May 5th, 2018. End of February final proposal was received and signed, beginning of March the initial payment was made, $21,946.01 (including the $500.00 initial deposit).
Due to an error that was discovered in the Net Metering Offer, the submission deadline was extended to July 16th, 2018. Updated Net Metering Offer was completed and mailed to me for signing, sent back to Green Lion at end of April.
Next step in the process was to have these documents submitted to *** and the fee of $800.00 to be paid, all of this being the responsibility of Green Lion Eco Group.
I contacted the project coordinator multiple times by email asking for updates, usually getting a response within a few days that everything is going as planned.
On June 22, after asking for another update, I was told that "We are currently in the process of obtaining your building permit. The application is ready, once it has been approved our building department will send you a copy of your building permit. This is the final step in the process that requires approval before your project is ready to build. We will update you once your building permit approval has been received in office."
July 6, a new project coordinator, *** was assigned to this job. After this, there was no communication from anybody at Green Lion regarding the status or progress of the project.
Beginning of August, I called ***, was told that the Net Metering Application was not submitted to them and now the offer is expired.
At this point I decided to cancel the whole project, because Solar Brokers/Green Lion did not fulfill their obligations and *** to me about it.
Mid August, I emailed *** and expressed my intent to cancel the project. I contacted Green Lion by phone and spoke to *** on Monday, Sept. 17, asking why nobody bothers contacting me regarding this issue. He put me on hold, then told me that someone will contact me in the next couple of days. Nobody did.
End of September, decided to go to the *** store in the hope that they could do something for me. Spoke to Trevor Goodhope, Installed Sales Manager at *** Windsor Store 3010. As a result of this meeting, on Oct. 4, 2018 I got an e-mail from *** (no last name provided), Associate Manager at Green Lion Eco Group, telling me that I have to pay a $3,500.00 cancellation fee, as per the Service Agreement Section 11.
I replied to *** the next day.
"I understand that Green Lion Eco Group would be happy to charge me a $3,500.00 cancellation fee as per section 11 of the Service Agreement, however this is not acceptable.
What you are calling a "miscommunication" by the former project coordinator, ***, it is in fact a "false, misleading or deceptive representation" regarding the status of the project..
Based on this, as per the Consumer Protection Act, 2002, Part 3, Sections 14, 17 and 18 that say
14 (1) It is an unfair practice for a person to make a false, misleading or deceptive representation. 2002, c. 30, Sched. A, s. 14 (1).
17 (1) No person shall engage in an unfair practice. 2002, c. 30, Sched. A, s. 17 (1).
18 (1) Any agreement, whether written, oral or implied, entered into by a consumer after or while a person has engaged in an unfair practice may be rescinded by the consumer and the consumer is entitled to any remedy that is available in law, including damages. 2002, c. 30, Sched. A, s. 18 (1).
I am requesting a full refund, $21,946.01"
After this, I made multiple attempts to contact Solar Brokers or Green Lion, not getting any response.

Desired Outcome

I am requesting a full refund of the amount paid, $21,946.01

My 1 year old solar system stoped working & the chat people (2) have told me that someone would contact me but no one has. All the phone number (4) have been disconnected

Desired Outcome

Warranty repair

Solar Brokers Canada Response • Dec 06, 2018

The clients system was down for a period of time but was repaired and operational again within 8 days of us being notified. Our phone lines were down for a short period of time due to a technical error. The original numbers have been restored now.

On July 26, 2018 I agreed over the telephone to sign up for the solar panel net metering program with Solar Brokers Canada. I was then passed on to their affiliate company *** who would coordinate my application. In order to be fully approved personnel from the company would have to do an assessment on my roof structure. As well, my hydro company would have to be contacted by them and receive approval of my application. I was advised upon applying that I could cancel anytime but if I were to cancel the agreement after these above two procedures took place there would be a cost to me of $3,500.00 for services rendered.

Before these procedures occurred I decided that the program was not something I wished to participate in after examining the scope and length of time of the commitment. So, on July 29, 2018 I emailed both companies that I wished to cancel my application. I requested return email confirmation that it had been cancelled.

Since then I have received the full run around for weeks now. After I chased and chased *** at *** being led to believe they were the people who had the power to cancel the application. She just kept referring to mysterious upper managers (no names provided) who were making unknown revisions (they would not tell her) on a form I needed to fill out to complete the cancellation. Then on Aug. 13, 2018 I'm told by her that I just need to email them a statement (which I did) and that then I'm being sent back to Solar Brokers Canada for the "final stages" of cancellation.

On August 13, 2018 I then went on Solar Brokers Canada chat help line on their website to get a manager's name who could resolve this issue but customer service agent *** didn't know any managers names and didn't know which departments to direct me to but would look into it. I then telephoned Solar Brokers Canada with the same request and was directed to someone who's name I didn't quite catch on their voicemail but left a message anyway. I then emailed all of my information and request for help from the appropriate person to their customer service email address.

I have not heard back from anyone at Solar Brokers Canada. I am hoping that with the assistance of the Revdex.com that this issue can be resolved in a timely manner.

Desired Outcome

I want the appropriate manager or supervisor at Solar Brokers Canada who has the authority to confirm the cancellation of my application for the net metering solar panels program once and for all. If a form needs to be filled out then I request it be sent to me in a timely manner as I will complete and return it promptly in order to receive final confirmation of cancellation of my application. I wish to deal with one person who is in a position of power to resolve this on-going customer service issue.

Solar Brokers Canada Response • Aug 16, 2018

As per ***'s case description, she requested to cancel her purchase within the first 10 days, which, according to Ontario's Consumer Protection Act of 2002, is fully within her right.

Furthermore, *** did not make a payment toward her purchase therefore there is no refund to be issued.

There is not additional paperwork required from her.

Her project has been cancelled as of July 29, 2018.

Customer Response • Aug 17, 2018

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
That is very good news and all I was asking for from the company. I don't understand why I had weeks of being told I had to complete forms and final steps while being passed back and forth between Solar Brokers Canada and it's subsidiary ***.

This has been a difficult company to deal with. The situation worsened after filing this complaint and a customer service manager from *** phoned me at home telling me he knew nothing of my situation and then angrily vented about how I had no right to file a complaint with the Revdex.com as it would get them in trouble. I tried to explain, to calm him down, to get a word in but his anger at my filing the complaint escalated to a point I had to simply hang up.

I am grateful to the Revdex.com for intervening on my behalf and am satisfied with the result the intervention achieved.

I had paid Solar Brokers Canada an initial deposit of $ 8,755.58 to get approval from my local hydro utility if my home qualifies under the Ontario MicroFIT program. The utility did not qualify me, so as per Solar Brokers Policy they need to refund my deposit in 45 days. I had given them in writing on 5-Jan-2018 that I want to cancel my application as the Utility did not qualify me. They had acknowledged my receipt of cancellation. It has been more than 90 days, but I haven't got my refund. They are just cooking up stories every-time I follow up with them.

Desired Outcome

Get my money back and if possible some compensation on top of it for the commitment they have missed and the disturbance they have caused in my life.

Solar Brokers Canada Response • May 04, 2018

Our records show that the client was refunded his deposit in April, 2018.

Customer Response • May 07, 2018

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
What I can say from their reply is that is Incorrect!! What date does it show ?? they need to give a date instead of a month. THEY STILL CANT DENY THAT IT EXCEEDED THEIR 45 DAYS REFUND POLICY. THEY NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS FOR ANY FUTURE CUSTOMERS !! I have already exceeded my 100 + days mark here. ***
I am in communication with them, and as per their email of 2-may, they have mailed my new cheque. I see it is in transit, but can you see what the real issue is here??

Solar Brokers Canada Response • May 09, 2018

A cheque for $8,755.85 was express mailed to the client. We have received confirmation through email that he has received the cheque. However he has yet to cash the cheque.

I am really glad to inform you guyz. They are doing great business. Am extremely happy for their product and services. Keep it up Solar Brokers Canada. Thanks for your good support.
