Soloway Chiropractic Reviews (1)

Review: On 10/28/13, I called in to Soloway to ask how much a chiropractic session would be. I was told $50 for the first visit and $40 for subsequent visits. I proceeded to go there and received treatment. At that time they asked if I had insurance. I said yes, but it was high deductible. I also enquired to verify what the expected charges would be and was told the same thing - $50 initial visit and $40 thereafter. I then went to a follow-up visit the day after. At no time whatsoever was anything mentioned about the amounts being higher for people with insurance.I received the EOBs on 11/11/13, where to my astonishment they had charged several hundred dollars. Anthem denied about half of the charges, but the total came to $353.00 for 10/28/13 and $278.00 for 10/29/13. This was clearly not what was promised by Soloway. Anthem reduced the allowed charge to $113.32 and $107.76, respectively, which was then paid with our medical savings account.I have a photograph that shows Soloway intends to mislead its customers. The photograph of their advertising sign in front of the office (taken 12/9/13, and said the same message when I received services) very clearly shows that they only charge $50 for the first visit.I am not only appalled at the deceptive business practices of Soloway Chiropractic, but at the haste at which Anthem Blue Cross tried to cover its tracks regarding battling insurance fraud like this. In addition, fraud like this raises the price of insurance for all people.Desired Settlement: Adjust the charge for visit on 10/28/13 to $50.Adjust subsequent visit charge for visit on 10/29/13 to $40.Refund moneys owed ($131.08).Compensate me for my lost time challenging this matter (currently 6 hours at $50/hr = $300).

Response:

Mr. [redacted] came in for treatment at which point we asked if we were billing his insurance or if he was paying cash he stated that he has a high deductible insurance plan but gave us his card to bill his insurance. One must understand that when we are billing insurance we are required to bill the modalities and procedures performed. Mr. [redacted] had low back pain and I treated him on two occasions my secretary billed his insurance and payment from his insurance company was received two weeks later. He was upset and requested that we refund the money to the insurance company and bill him so he could pay cash for the services at our cash price. I responded that this was fine however when we bill insurance we are required to bill for what was performed. When a patient pays cash at the time of service we are able to give a discounted fee as we do not have the expense of billing his insurance company and the time to await payment as long as the patient pays at the time of service. I spoke with Mr. [redacted] when I saw his complaint on Yelp. I never intended to deceive Mr. [redacted] as he stated. I am a preferred provider on numerous health plans and am also a National Board Examiner that administers the exam for prospective new doctors. I hope this resolves the issue. It is similar to a patient presenting an insurance card at a hospital for services once you present the card they are bound to bill those fees per their contract with the insurance company.
