Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
The critical issue in this complaint is the installation of used sail slugs on my main sail. Used sail slugs to save a few dollars (less than $50) and put my life and boat at risk. I did not go out in a 35 mph wind. When I left the shore, the wind was 5-10 mph, with a forecast of 10-20 mph. A front came through and the wind gradually increased to a peak of 35 mph. Before it reached its peak (see attached wind graph), I came about and tried to lower the main sail. As I have already explained, I couldn't because most of the used sail slugs were broken. The attachments clearly show that Somerset Sails installed used slugs on my main sail. Used sail slugs are the cause of the problem, not the characteristics of my boat or my sailing abilities or any of the other factors Martin cites to confuse the issue.Martin does not address the used sail slugs in his comment, although he knows that is the basis of my complaint. I do not have a bill of sale from Somerset Sails, even though I asked for one in person and later in writing. I ordered a 165% mylar headsail with a blue sunbrella sunscreen at the edge. I have emails of discussing this with Martin. I received a 160% dacron headsail with a white sunscreen at the edge. Martin decided that the mylar was too heavy, but didn't tell me about it until I arrived to pick it up. I traded in old sails because Martin said he would take them in trade. I have no idea how much they were worth, I took him at his word that he was giving me a deal because I had done business with him before without any issue. I traded in a tuff luff and have no idea whether I received anything in return because Martin didn't give me a bill of sale. I ordered a main sail cover and a tiller cover. Martin did not tell me until I arrived to pick my sails, etc., that he couldn't find it and blamed it on a disgruntled employee. A week or so later he shipped the two covers to me. Their quality was poor compared to other sail covers I have owned. They were also each a foot too short. Martin, by his own admission, forgot to include the mast in the design for the main sail cover (quote: I feel so stupid). He tacked on another foot on each cover and sent them back. The tiller cover still doesn't fit. This was a completely unsatisfactory piece of business. Martin got nearly everything wrong, which is why I am requesting a full refund of $1653.80 plus whatever he received for my used sails and tuff luff and $1886.00 for the motor which I had to run at full throttle (before it was broken in) in order to save myself and boat. This is a small price to pay for the danger and aggravation and wasted time Martin's carelessness imposed on me.

Customer was in a 35 mph wind (FORCE 7, Near Gale force) and is blaming us for his issues.Customer got a CDI FF4 Furler and 160% roller Furling Genoa, mainsail modifications and a mainsail cover, tiller cover and we installed his Furler on his forestay for $1500, list price for the furler is $893,...

list price for the sail is $1293, boom cover is $250. Customer gave us 7 old used sails to make up for the rest of the cost, and we sent back 4 (FOUR) of them and sold the other 3 for about $200 each. His drama is valid, regarding getting caught in 35 knot winds and performing an accidental gybe that broke the slides which is a good thing, better than having the sail rip. Its called stress relief, the weak point reduces stress under extreme pressure on certain points. He could have sailed in under headsail only perhaps but sounds like he had no choice but to use the engine since he was in a 35 mph wind (FORCE 7, Near Gale force). His other alternative would be to heave-to.In our 29 years in business we have thousands of satisfied customers and some that were unhappy, which we grantee to mend. But this DRAMA from this customer is unwarranted because blaming us for his mishandling of his very tender boat in a Gale Force wind is unreasonable. The S2 7.9 is not a fixed keel boat, it has a retractable centerboard which only weighs 600 pounds and the heaviest part of the keel is only 13 inches in the water. This boat which I am very familiar with is not very good in high winds of 20 mph or more without a full crew. Customer tried to handle 35 mph alone and blames Somerset Sails for his bad decisions.
