This carpenter is lying he never said anything about caution tape and we only went into the bathroom as instructed hours later
Complaint: ** ** ** ** when he said it was okay and the job was not done right since the beginning the reason we were unhappy with a few of the tiles is because some of the tiles in the box only a few were a different color and as a professional he should of spotted that and brought it to our attention that the color was very different and would we like to proceed or get tiles that matched better he is right about not having enough tiles so he did go to *** and picked up more boxes that I paid him for total materials were $in addition to the for the work which he was paid in full we asked if we can connect the toilet again a few days later and he said yes but you need johnney screws which he never told us about you would think he would of let us know we know nothing about this kind of stuff so yes I did text him about what did we exactly need because he is the carpenter not me I didn't know that asking him a question was a chargeable thing I have pictures and texts as well and it is clear that when the job was grouted did not turn out properly were he ripped up those tiles if it was because we walked in there than more areas would have been the same way when ever he was there he was always rushed and it is clear that he resented us and the job because of what he got paid for it he agreed to to finish the job and do a good job if he had come to us and was really not happy about the amount then maybe we could of worked something out instead he left us with a mess and didn't care how we felt nor how our bathroom came out he gave up clearly because of money and he agreed to he has made up lies to get himself out of leaving us with an unfinished bathroom and it upsets me because we trusted him he claimed to go to church and seemed like a good man but he is a liar and is not professional by any means he never connected our toilet he did bring the screws for us we bought a saw and cut the screws ourselves and put it back together he knows what he has done he knows that he has done us wrong and it doesn't matter to him he kept telling us that the gloom wax to cold and that is why the grout wasn't drying on different occasions but then he tries to say it is because we went into the bathroom he knows that is not true and I have texts to prove it I will take this further and go to the attorney general if I have to because no one should be able to lie and treat people this way and leave people with an outcome like this in there new home costing me hundreds and hundreds of dollars again we are requesting our money back promptly

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
As of June 8th, 2015 my
fiancé
and I have decided not to let [redacted] (Son of a Carpenter LLC) to work and repair
on our stairs for the third time for the reasons stated below. The first time
the stairs were installed we noticed that there were cracks in the wood any
wear a nail was put in, in every single step, most of the wood of the steps
were starting to bow, in the middle of the stairs the wood would bend/bow every
time one would go up and down and one of the steps was not even nailed in. When
we called [redacted] to rectify the issues. [redacted] said he would come after 5, but
for two consecutive nights he blew us off with no notification. On the third
day, he came over to look at the stairs when my fiancé [redacted] was home. [redacted] proceeded to show him all of the issues with the stairs. [redacted] agreed to put a
middle stringer, replaced the severely cracked outside stringer and two of the
steps (the bottom one due to it being
severely cracked and the very top one due to it starting to bow.) A day
later, [redacted] came out to fix the issues on the stairs he installed. Upon
competition he called My fiancé and said he was finished, rather than
speaking to me, as I was right there out in the back yard.
After [redacted] left my fiancé
called me and asked me how the stairs looked. During his time there [redacted] had
made the stairs look worse. Instead of replacing the severely cracked outside
stringer he put an extra bolt and three holes in it, making the wood crack even
more and chipping part of it. The top step that was bowing had an added seven
screws in it which made it crack more. When I attempted to call [redacted] He
informed me that even though I live at this property, called him for the
consultation and payed half for his stairs, I was not his customer because I
did not sign the contract (due to military obligations I was not home). There
for he did not need to speak with me and he hung up. When my fiancé
confronted him by telephone, [redacted] blamed his horrendous work on the wood,
saying it was bad wood and angrily agreed to replace the outside stringer and
the cracked steps next week. About twenty minutes later he texted my fiancé
and said that he would replaced the outside stringer that he originally
installed a week earlier for about $150. After refusing to pay him more of our
hard earned money to repair his own work we decided to contact the Revdex.com.
We had two experienced carpenters
come over on separate occasions. Each gave us there professional opinion on
[redacted]’s
work. They pointed out all of the cracks in the wood and said it was due to
[redacted] not predrilling the holes and not using screws, instead [redacted] used a nail
gun. The also pointed out that the railings were not parallel, there was a
difference of t seven inches from the top of the steps to the bottom. Also a
guard was not installed alongside the walking surface of the stairs, and there
was no overhang creating a safety hazard. I also called [redacted] (wear
[redacted] claimed he got the bad wood from) the gentleman on the phone informed me
that their wood would crack if a high pressure nail gun was used, but the fact
that it was treated with anything nor its drying time would have any effect.
Not to mention we provided [redacted] the money to purchase the wood. We had no say
in the type or brand nor the company he chose.
[redacted] soon after agreed to replace
the outside stringer and the remaining six steps, upon agreement we sent him a
picture of the major issues, to include uneven railings, the cracked step he
reinstalled and a picture of the top step (the step that he put more screws
in). [redacted] informed my fiancé and the Revdex.com that he came to our
property earlier that morning to take pictures of his work for the wood
company.  We politely requested he not
come onto our property without our permission.
It was agreed that he would
come out on Monday 6/8/2015 to work on the stairs for the third time; we both
took the day off from work to be here for it. After the new wood was delivered,
we noticed that the new wood was cracked. After not hearing from [redacted] all day,
we called him and he said he was going to be here the next day due to the rain,
even though the rain had stopped earlier that morning and it was going to be
sunny the rest of the day. He said he would come out the following day, when it
was scheduled to rain all day.
After going through all of this for
a simple set of stairs, we decided we did not want to deal with [redacted] and his
unprofessionalism anymore. We concluded that [redacted] can come take his wood and
his unsafe custom stairs and we will accept a full refund so we may hire a
professional and experienced carpenter that can do the job right the first
time.
The following day we told [redacted]
that he can come pick up his wood and we want a refund for the stairs. [redacted]
said that we are not going to get a refund and he will not come to our property
to pick up his wood and refused to speak with us.
We believe our reasons for a refund
are extremely valid. Not only do we believe that it should not take a
professional contractor/carpenter three times to install/repair a simple set of
stairs, we believe that if we are paying our hard earned money for a service we
should not be lied to and disrespected. I do not appreciate having my time or
money waisted. Not only are the stairs unsafe but they are hideous. They have
become a huge eyesore and we are embarrassed that we paid money for these
stairs. The carpenters that came out and our neighbors agree that our stairs
look like someone put them together as weekend project.
To back up or claim, we have a vast amount of
pictures that are dated all on the dates of install and repairs to include the
wood that was delivered. The wood is currently being stored in our garage for
safe keeping. [redacted] is more than welcome to call us to set up an appointment to
come pick up his material; we are not a lumber yard.
In conclusion we want a full refund, [redacted] to
take his wood and his work off of our property, and to finally be done with him
and his company.

Sincerely,
[redacted]

Here are the photos of the bathroom floor. When I did the floor I told the home owner to please stay out of the bathroom so that the tile could dry. I also told the home owner do I need to put up caution tape to keep them out of the bathroom. That night I got a message from the home owner about...

the colors of the tile. The home owner told me that they didn't like the color of the tile, I did not purchase the tile I did not pick the color of the tile all I did was install the tile, the home owner also did not buy enough tile to finish the floor. I had asked them to please keep off of the floor they did not. The home owner bought all of the materials I did not. The transition for the door from the tile to the wood floor I bought that my time and labor far exceeds $280.00. I was getting messages ask me about the vanity, and the toilet what kind of bolts do we need, the water line, etc. I didn't get paid for installing the toilet like they said they were going to pay me. With the amount of work going over there back and forth is uncalled for. Me time and effort to fix this in two time. Respectfully, Son of a Carpenter Contracting LLC Brian K[redacted] Owner See Attached Document

I'm not going to go back in forth with this. These other estimates don't mean anything to me. We did nothing wrong. I could have charged them a lot more but they didn't want to spend the money. Know they have a quote for OVER $3,000.00 dollars and they still on insisting on a refund which they are not entitled to. Not only did we we support the existing structure to make it safe because everything else was rotten and falling apart. The only good thing about this whole situation is nothing. I have seen their pictures and I cannot see any of them because they are not clear. I told [redacted] that he could keep the wood and there's nothing wrong with it this would was selected by one of the owners of the lumberyard. I have tried numerous of times to go over and to fix it. His girlfriend has caused nothing but grief and problems. From this point on I do not want to have any more contact with this person.
Sincerely,
Son of a Carpenter Contracting LLC

I went to the house and took more photos of the stairs, I also went to the lumber yard where I bought the lumber and spoke to one of the owners and sent the photos of the split wood to the rep. I'm waiting to hear back from them to see what they are going to do. Sincerely, Son of a Carpenter...

To the response from the customer, like I said previously I have been out to the residence several times to try to resolve this issue unfortunately the client could not stay out of the bathroom after I had suggested putting up caution tape and let the customer know that the tiles needed to set and dry I was out there 3 different times to regrout the floor. On top of going out there 3 different times and putting the toilet in trim work in my time and effort. Son of a carpenter Contracting LLC is not refunding any amounts of money due to the fact of my time in my effort to try to resolve these issues. Not only did I not have enough material but when I finished the tile they did not like the color of it because the tiles were not matching. The customer was the one who bought the tile all I was doing was supplying the labor. I had also purchased a transition strip made from wood and not MDF. After finishing this job I was contacted by the customer and asking me the measurements of the existing vanity because they were going to replace it after I had already done the job.

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
Good Afternoon,       As discussed on the phone, I [redacted] and my fiance [redacted] have descided that we would prefer a full refund of $750 for our steps. Due to our previous issues of the stairs being cracked, bowing, and not even attached in some places. Also our railing has a seven inch difference from one end to the next. We also have separating of the stairs from the stringers and cracks in the stringers. On top of all this [redacted] has been rude and unprofessional. He agreed to replace the stringer and a few steps  at no charge to us after much debate. He also agreed that there were issues which he claimed were due to bad wood. After personally speaking with [redacted] (the wood company he used) and two other Carpenters, everyone agreed wood no matter how it was prepared would crack if a nail gun was used, which son of a carpenter did. [redacted] was supposed to replace the discussed pieces today, Monday June 8th , me and my fiance took today off to be home. [redacted] informed us that due to the rain this morning he would not be coming out today and he would come tomorrow. The weather forcast predicts no further rain today but rain tomorrow. We also noticed the wood that was dropped off in our yard this morning already has cracks where the screws should be going on the ends and many splinters. Due to the multiple issues with the current steps , all additional nailing and screwing will only increase damage unless its all is replaced. Also [redacted] took it upon himself to come on our property to supposibly take photos with out our permission.  At this point due to [redacted] and his company's  unperfessionalism, lack of carpentry skills, lack of being reliable and continual inconveniencing us  we would just prefer a full refund so someone else can do the job properly. [redacted] can take his new wood and stairs to use for other projects if he'd like . We just prefer to be done with this company.Sincerely [redacted] and [redacted].

Review: hired to build deck and porch, paid him 1/2 money

and he did only 20% of the work in 3 weeks and quality was awe full

I hired to build a deck and porch. he said 1 to 2 weeks and in 3 weeks he was only 20% done. I have paid him 1/2 up front. he was to build but he sent 2 guys that do not have a clue how to build a deck or porch.

I hired a new carpenter and he said deck was 4 inches out of square. other workers at the site project told me they used my bobcat machine to try and pick up the deck to get it square. they were all watching and laughing at son of a carpenter workers. nothing son of a carpenter did was level or square and they only did 20% of the job before I had had it.Desired Settlement: I paid son of a carpenter $2,950.00 for 1/2 of the contract price. he only did 20% of the job and all of what he did had to be removed and redone. it is actually costing me much more now because I have to pay to remove what he did. even the support cement tubes in the ground were in the wrong locations. I would like to get my $2950.00 back as soon as I can.

Response:

Like I spoke to you on the phone conversation this afternoon

John has hired my company to build two decks the front and the back deck .

The house wasn't even built yet when I met him all of this was done from a house plan that he gave me .

The day of construction I was informed by john that not only did I have to build stairs and a plate form also that I had to support the over hang at the front door way . I told John that this was not included in the job John told me that I was to add it to the end of the job the same with the over hang. Not only did I have to build stairs to get into the house but I also had no power. He gave us a generator to use for power That lasted a day .This whole job was a night mare from the very beginning.

The only amount of money that I got was a deposit for $2,900.00 to start the job . The owner bought all of the materials.

Two day later the owner informs me that he is going on vacation and will be back the following week. He put me in charge of all the contractors, again I asked about the money He tells me don't worry bill me at the end of the job. The generator ran out of gas John told one of my guys that he would give him some money to go get gas so we could continue to work. The next day the generator runs out of gas again and we have no power John

informs me that we have permission to use the power from next door off of the pole. I get a phone call telling me that we are not allowed to use the power. All of this non-sense for $2,900.00 was not worth it .

I never got paid for doing the overhang or the stairs or running his sub contractors.

As far as I'm concerned I don't owe John any thing he got more than $2,900.00 worth of labor. Not including That I had to get the police involved because of death threats.

The person next door to John's house was under construction as well

Review: I hired "Son of Carpenter Contracting" to udate and repair a house that I purchased in October of 2013. The original estimated timeline to complete the project was 3 weeks. The project included painting the house, refinish hardwood floors and remodel kitchen.AS of febuary 20th 2014 were approaching 4 months into the project and it has not been completed.Desired Settlement: I would like to replace this company with a company of my choice to complete this job. or have him complete this job in a timely manner with a discount in the origial agreed contracted price. MY reasoning for a discount is that I am paying the expenses at my purchased house and the house I am living in now such as rent, Electricity, oil and taxes.

Review: Son of a Carpenter agreed to repair our deck stair. We were told after stairs were installed if we chose to move them at a later date when We redid our deck we could. After stairs were in stalled on 5/18 we were told there was no way to move stairs. The next day a different carpenter pointed out every single stair and section of the stringer had cracks due to holes not being predrilled and using nails instead of screws, most steps were already bowing. After multiple attempts to reach [redacted] he agreed to come back out on 5/ 27. When called on 5/27 we were told he would not be coming out that night but would come 5/28. He came out and said he had never seen stairs crack like this , he would replace the stringer and some of the badly cracked steps and a third sting running down the middle. We proceeded to show him some steps that weren't even nailed in. He appoligized and said he would return 5/29 to fix them. On 5/29 he added a third stringer to the center to reduce bowing, some how extra holes and cracks appeared . I then called him and was informed I was not his customers, even though I paid half for the stairs, live in this house, was the one to contact him, and spoke with him for the quote. However I was fulfilling a military obligation when the contract was signed so my fiances name was the only one on it. I was then informed I was rude and abruptly hung up on. After informing my fiance of the issue he called [redacted] who denied ever saying he will replace the outside stringer and was doing us a favor . He then agreed he would fix the stringer next week. After about 20 minutes he texted my fiance he would replace the stringer but would charge for additional materials and labor. When we said we will not pay he did not respondDesired Settlement: We wish to have quality stairs that are safe, not cracked, not bowing aND nother an eye sore. Preferably done by someone more professional and reliable

Son of a Carpenter Contracting LLC has done everything possible to fix the stairs. Not only did we custom build the stairs but we made them safe by reinforcing the plate form that is attached to the sun porch. The plate form was not attached to the house making it unsafe . My company has been out to the house several time I have added a center stringer to give more support to the stairs I have also replaced two treads on the stairs. My last attempt to appease there request by removing the out side stringer and replacing a total of six new treads. But before all of this I contacted my lumber yard to fine out why the wood was drying out so fast. The owner of the lumber yard contacted the rep that they buy the wood from ,the rep informed my lumber is faster now do to the drying time of the pressure treated wood. We also used coated nails used on wood stairs or a long with decking screws and also 5" 1/2" lags screws to secure the inside and outside stringers which is required by ICC code All materials that where used were of quality. At the of install the pressure treated lumber was still wet. I also informed the owner that he should treat the wood with a water sealer . If this was not done then the reason for the wood cracking . With all this said there will be no refund from my company . We have tried to work with this customer but to no avail . At this point the lumber that I purchased is being held by the customer. My company has paid for this material out of my pocket there is no charge to the customer . I would either like my lumber back or they can purchase the lumber at my cost.
