Recently bought a Prom dress for my senior daughter. Aware that all sales are final. But no one knew or had information that COVID-19 was going to hit this country this hard and for schools to shut down for there not to be a prom or a graduation a least. I attempted to call the store and they were very unapologetic about this whole situation. Dress is in perfect condition, has not be touched nor worn. Management did not even attempt to at least buy back half of the cost of the dress. Instead an in store credit! I have a senior she is not going to get another dress!
At Sophia's Bridal and XO by Sophia's, we are doing our best to navigate these uncharted territories. As you said, no one knew this virus was coming or how to prepare for it. Because of the nature of our products, selling formal wear, we have always (for our 14 years in business) followed a strict no returns or refunds policy. This is industry standard across the US and we are very clear. As you said in the complaint, you were fully aware of the no returns/refunds policy. This is not a personal attack, but something we must administer across the board to keep fair to all customers. Our designers do not allow refunds, and therefor we are unable to accept them. It is a horrible situation we've all been placed in. We are a small business and are doing our best to navigate this as well. If our designers decide to allow returns, we will absolutely pass this along to our customers.
Logistically, the receipt and sales policy was signed and all parties were aware of the policy.

My daughter had placed a dress in layaway there. Her prom was cancelled two weeks later. While she was there she was not offered a receipt or had to sign anything. We were only aware that the $50 to hold the dress was non-refundable. I called and asked for a refund and they refused and would not budge over anything. I proceeded to leave a review of my negative experience there on their Facebook. The owner then blocked me and deleted my review. He also then posted on his personal Facebook page very negative things about me including a comment about remembering me when the martial law is put in place. I have screenshots of the original post and all the comments as well.
Our sales policy is and has always been all sales final. We are doing our best in the middle of a national crisis and being able to respond to hundreds of requests. We have always lead with our heart and in this situation we are trying to protect our customers, our business, and our employees. We have continued to push forward with a no returns policy, which is stated on all receipts and said verbally with all transactions. We have offered to refund this customer as a gesture of goodwill, and have asked that we can all move forward with positivity. She has posted multiple bad reviews while also having friends and family post bad reviews as well. We are not trying to scam anyone, we are trying to move forward in the midst of constant change, regulations, and through fear. We are doing our best and ask that she will extend grace in this circumstance.
