I am responding to a letter that I received pertaining to a complaint number [redacted]). It states that a client of mine that purchased a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero from Reliable Auto Solutions has launched a complaint due to the fact that the vehicle caught on fire. I want to state my side of the story. When [redacted] came to my lot he approached me in the interest of purchasing this vehicle, inspected the vehicle one day then told me that he was going to return the following day to drive it and take it to his mechanic. As a courtesy I put a tag on the vehicle and allowed him to take it to be inspected by a mechanic of his choice. He had the vehicle for a few hours, came back and made the decision to return the following day to purchase the vehicle.
The following day, upon his return, he drove the vehicle again before purchasing it. By the state of Florida law a vehicle that is sold as is and has documentation that states the client purchased the vehicle with the as is clause, is non returnable and non refundable.
Seven days later his mother came to my store and told me that the vehicle caught fire, that they had to call 911 to extinguish the fire, and asked me if I was going to do anything about it. I explained to her that due to the fact that [redacted] had already taken the vehicle to a mechanic and chose to purchase the vehicle as is I was not going to refund any part of the purchase.
A couple of hours later [redacted] calls me and threatens me with foul language, picketing in front of my dealership, and bringing the news team to my business if I did not refund his money. Not only that he called the division of highway and safety and placed a complaint with them.
I do not feel that I was in the wrong for what occurred, especially since it happened a week after he purchased the vehicle. It has not been determined what caused the car to catch fire, It could have been that an animal chewed up some wires, or something else along those lines. Also when I first purchased the vehicle I had my mechanic who services all of my vehicles inspect it and I myself drove it for several days before putting it up for sale.
If I had any idea that the vehicle would have been a danger I would not have put it on my lot and I would have not willingly sold it.
Thank you very much for your time and I look forward to resolving this matter promptly.  If you have any other questions feel free to contact me at ###-###-####.

Sincerely,
