Twelve years ago we hired South Island Fireplace to install a new chimney and woodstove in our rental property in *** The salesman insisted there was only one direction the woodstove could face and still be a *** install When we inspected the installation the day after the crew had worked on it, we realized that the crew, at the direction of the tenant, had installed the woodstove facing *** off the desired location I stood in front of the woodstove with my jaw dropped, thinking, "Maybe the salesman was wrong," and "WHY did the installers take direction from the tenant?" and "SURELY they wouldn't do an *** install."
*** later, a builder friend informed us that we have not been insured for *** years The salesman had been right all along, and the crew had installed the woodstove *** off Let me repeat this Over the last *** years we paid over $***in insurance premiums, and the whole time we weren't covered Now as it turned out, the house didn't burn down, the install was otherwise excellent (the chimney draws fine, and the woodstove, a *** Energy brand, works fine) Also, it looked like a really easy-to-fix problem
I phoned *** This is where it went wrong They had screwed up Anybody can do that What was alarming was the reception I got from *** the manager *** the manager was immediately defensive, sarcastic, personal and denied everything At the end, he offered to fix the problem provided I paid, and then went off on a rant , at which point I hung up on him
Someone from *** asked if I wanted him to fix the problem, and though I had phoned him with that intent, upon reflection, I'd rather not I trusted South Island Fireplace ***years ago, and that turned out to be a stupid decision, I shall take my business elsewhere
