South Louisville Antiques and Toy Mall Reviews (2)

ID# *** South Louisville Antique & Toy Mall business response to customer complaint filed 2/7/18 I want to start by saying the employee mentioned in the complaint is one of the store ownersAs owners of the toy mall for the past plus years we've
made a commitment to our customers AND dealers to try to be as outstanding as we can beWe do not make a practice a of lying to, misleading or forcing people to buy items they are not comfortable withWe've taken great pride in being honest and providing our customers with items they are happy withWe've gotten really good reviews and high recommendations from most of our customersThis is our first experience with this type of complaint. SecondWe have a very strict all sales final policy, however I did not mean to accuse the customer of any wrong doingI was merely explaining why we do not offer refundsI even interrupted him as he was stating he had time stamped photos, saying 'I am not saying THIS sword is not the same, I am just explaining why we can not take returns'' I sincerely apologize for any offense he took from my statementIt was not my intent to accuseFor the same reasoning and because of the wide replica market, I do not know any antique mall, or vintage store in the area that offers any kind of return policy. I'd also like to point out that there is a huge replica weaponry market here in our area as well as nationallyI do not feel like our dealer or, us as owners, have done anything wrong in this particular caseI'd say there is a huge chance that replica items are being sold in every antique mall in the nation. In no way or at any point did we lie to the customer!!! The customer was told 'the dealer prices things accordingly' and we also pointed out other items in the dealers showcase that were indeed replica items(just a quick generic ebay search of 'Japanese katana wwii' pulls up swords that start in the digit price range) so being told he prices things accordingly is leaving it up to the customer to do some pricing research (the sword in question was priced at $475)The word authentic was not used anywhere in the dealers showcase or on the swords price tagStating the dealer prices accordingly does NOT mean the item is authentic! As we always are, we were very straight forward with the customerWe readily, and openly admitted 'I do not know anything about swords' the customer responded with 'neither do I' and mentioned being new to this type of collectible market. We are very patient and we are willing to work with customersThere are several things we would have gladly done for the customer as he made his decision, we could have called the dealer to see what he knew about the authenticitywe could have held the sword at the counter while he made phone calls or even brought someone else to look at itNone of those options were explored by the customer. Lastly, After he called to request his money back I rolled some video footageI have him on video stating he will go ahead and take a chance on it and that his friend said it was world war era stuff (he had sent some photos to his friend) This proves he knew he was taking a chance when he bought it and it was his friend, not us, that vouched for the items authenticity. I feel in this circumstance I should stick to our strict no return policy

Regards,
[redacted] you stated it was " priced accordingly". The value is 0$ How do you say it is priced accordingly? I looked at eBay, and saw originals, I told you I did, I even had a person who spoke Japanese try to translate the kanji, it wasn't until later and the item was in my hand that it was found it was a FORGERY, not a replica. You vouched for a seller of forged items. You could have simply returned the item, I have spent a couple hundred dollars on other items in the past at your store and planned on spending more, as I saw numerous items I liked.  Not only that but I have brought p and promoted your store to out of state buyers and numerous other people who are in the collectible market.   In fact, you have a forged gi joe on a card at this exact time. It was never produced as a carded figure and you are selling it as such. A store owner should be responsible for selling forged items at any time. It's not buying knock off stuff. It's forged .   The whole idea of a forgery is to fool fool the buyer into believing it is realyou support these sellers and provide assurances for them. You should be responsible. If I paid with counterfeit cash, you would be mad and try to recover your losses as well.  I can't believe that his hasn't happened before. Maybe no one else thought they had recourse.  You cannot sell forged items. Period.  just because a sign says final sale does not mean you can sell forged items and. NOt expect people being angry and wanting their money back. In fact the last guy I sent there who found the forged gi joe noticed items that raised concern through his experience in your store.    Lastly and most importantly, an all sales final sign does not permit you to sell forged items. I want my money back. I have held back on trashing your store on web sites Bc I was waiting for a response. But now it seems apparent you are not willing to work with me and not willing to admit you're wrong for selling FORGED items as antiques and vouching for credibility.  You stole $500 from me.  I hope you can sleep with the knowledge you are a shady business.
